Putting the Rocket in Rockettower Plaza

Located in the heart of Tomorrowland is the League of Planets' Astro Orbiter, a symbol of interplanetary fellowship and universal harmony. This sky school gives even the most inexperienced of Tomorrowland's citizens the opportunity to pilot a rocket of their very own.

Just head up the lift to the gantry platform, and prepare to board. Happy flying, Astronauts!

Astro Orbiter is the latest in a long line of Tomorrowland rocket rides, dating back to the original Astro Jets that opened at Disneyland in 1956. In 1967, when a new Tomorrowland came to Disneyland, Guests could board Rocket Jets. For the first time, the attraction was elevated to the top of the PeopleMover platform, adding immeasurably to the thrill factor.

Rockets came to Walt Disney World with the expansion of Tomorrowland in 1974. Here, the Star Jets were placed atop the WEDway PeopleMover, just as at Disneyland. Passengers aboard the Star Jets circled a Saturn V-style rocket for soaring views of Tomorrowland until 1994, when the attraction gave way to the Astro Orbiter we know today. The look of the ride may have been updated, but the excitement young astronauts feel as they blast into the heavens has been ongoing for more than 50 years.

A City on the Move

The Tomorrowland Transit Authority provides for all the transportation needs of the citizens of Tomorrowland. Whether commuting from the Hoverburbs on the Green Line or heading out of town on the Red Line, it's the transportation system of choice for all human, alien and robot passengers.

The TTA Blue Line Express is the perfect solution for intra-city transport, with stops at Rockettower Plaza Station and destinations throughout this metropolis of the future. Need a trip to the beauty parlor? Just hop on one of our trains, and we'll take you there!

Looking for something educational for the kids? The Tomorrowland Metro Retro Historical Society presents a display along the TTA line of Walt Disney's 20th-century vision of the future. This so-called "Progress City" debuted as part of the Progressland pavilion at the 1964-65 World's Fair, in New York City on the planet Earth, where it was seen as part of the upper level post-show to the Carousel of Progress. Now, you can see it here as you ride by in the comfortable trains of the TTA!

Of course, the Blue Line Express route of the Tomorrowland Transit Authority is presently undergoing refurbishment. The line is expected to reopen in late August, so we'll see you again... in the future!
