Where in Disneyland? Alice in Wonderland

So how did you do? Today's image was actually a pair of rabbit footprints... from a White Rabbit, no less. He was obviously running late, as he scurried along the path and down the rabbit hole. That's where Alice followed him on her adventure, and it's the path we take in our caterpillar cars on Fantasyland's Alice in Wonderland dark ride.

Alice in Wonderland, a Disneyland exclusive, was added to the Fantasyland lineup in 1958 and enhanced with the rest of Fantasyland, reopening in 1984. To this day, it's a "must do" on any trip to Disneyland. It's definitely one of my favorites!

Friday - Where in Disneyland?

For those of you who perhaps thought yesterday's "Where in Disneyland?" challenge was too easy, here's one that might be a little tougher. Any guesses where you can see this detail? Post your guesses in the Comments, and I'll have the answer for you later tonight.

Where in Disneyland? Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage

Quite a few of you guessed this one correctly. It's a detail seen from the queue for Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage, and the TL59 stands for Tomorrowland and 1959 - the year the original Submarine Voyage attraction opened.

Submarine Voyage opened at a time when nuclear subs were in the news and seen as the future of technology. At the time, one of the subs in the fleet was christened Nautilus after the USS Nautilus. Launched in 1954, the USS Nautilus was the first nuclear-powered submarine and became the first to cross the North Pole (a story point incorporated into the ride).

Following their naval inspiration, the subs at first were painted a military grey. This changed in the 1980s, as the story was adjusted slightly to focus more on marine research and the subs were painted yellow.

The original Submarine Voyage took its last dive in 1998, the victim of ever-increasing maintenance costs, but a strong desire remained to revive the attraction in some way. With the Pixar film Finding Nemo as a motivator for a new story line, the Submarine Voyage finally returned in 2007.

To solve some of the challenges previously experienced with the attraction, some of the show pieces are actually presented behind glass or via other special effects. This still creates the illusion that they're underwater, but protects the scenes from the damage caused by being submerged. In the case of the coral, it was painted using a new technique in which colored glass was incorporated into the paint, allowing it to hold its color exponentially longer.

Now, thanks to the creativity and problem-solving skills of the Imagineers, guests at Disneyland can once again enjoy the thrill of diving to the ocean's depths -- just as they did back in 1959.

Where in Disneyland?

Before we bid adieu to the Disneyland Resort, let's take a couple more quick looks at some details in the park, starting with this one. Any idea where in Disneyland Park you might find this graphic? Send me your guesses in the Comments. I'll post the answer later tonight. Good luck!

I admit I threw you a curve with this one. Mickey stands atop the gateway arch at Hong Kong Disneyland. As guests arrive at the park, the sign welcomes them to Disney's newest destination, and at the end of the day it thanks them for visiting.

In the same spirit, I would like to thank all of you for visiting the DisneyShawn blog over the last couple of years. I truly enjoy sharing my passion for Disney and the Disney Parks with you. Keep the great comments and emails coming. I love hearing from you and am always open to suggestions on the things you'd like to see more of on the blog.

If the last couple challenges were too difficult, maybe today's will be clearer. Then again...

Any idea where in Disney's world you might find this particular statue of everyone's favorite mouse? If you think you know, post it in the Comments. I'll have the answer for you tonight, once I'm done Christmas shopping. Happy Black Friday!

Today's clue was a detail from one of the heraldic flags hanging above the main dining room at Cinderella's Royal Table in Fantasyland at the Magic Kingdom Park. Many of the family crests decorating the chamber are actually those of the Imagineers and others who contributed to the design and construction of Cinderella Castle and the Magic Kingdom.

For more on some of the details of Cinderella Castle, click back to this article posted on the blog back in January.

In honor of today's Thanksgiving feast, this clue leads to a dining establishment... but where? Can you puzzle it out? Place your guess, and look for the answer tonight.

Where in Disney's World - Wednesday 11/24 Answer

Did you get it? Today's clue was the horns atop the rolling one-man-band contraption guided by Sulley as he leads the daily Pixar Play Parade at Disney California Adventure.

Check back tomorrow for another fun challenge. In the meantime, why not revisit some of my previous articles on Disney parades. You'll find them at this link.

Maybe yesterday's challenge wasn't tough enough for you. How about this one? Where in the whole wide world of Disney Parks can you find this, uh... whatever it is!? I could tell you what it is, but that would be spoiling the challenge, now wouldn't it.

As usual, put your guesses into Comments, and I'll have the answer for you later tonight. Good luck!

The little bunny from today's "Where in Disney's World?" clue is actually part of the immense tile mural featured in the Grand Canyon Concourse at Disney's Contemporary Resort in Florida. Designed by Imagineering artist Mary Blair, best known for her work on "it's a small world," the 90-foot high mural graphically depicts the people, animals and landscape of Arizona's natural wonder.

For more on the Grand Canyon mural, check out my previous post on the subject.

With the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, I've decided to put our detail tour of Disneyland on hiatus until Monday. There's turkey, shopping and family to be had this week. In the meantime, though, I've got some "Where in Disney's World?" challenges lined up for you. Each morning, I'll post a photo of a detail from a Disney Park (all 11 parks around the world are fair game). Leave a comment with your guess as to the location where the photo was taken. I'll post a new article on the blog with the answer and some fun facts later that night (usually around 9 p.m. Eastern).

Here's your first clue of the week. Any idea where in Disney's world you might find this groovy little bunny with a headband? Good luck!

This was probably the trickiest challenge yet this week. For those who guessed the little farmhouse was from The Land at Epcot, it was a nice try. In actuality, it's part of this mural on the back of the theater for "It's Tough to be a Bug" at the Disney California Adventure park. The mural provides a nice backdrop for the Bountiful Valley Farm section of the park. In 2002, Dim and his banner were added with the opening of A Bug's Land nearby.

Check back next week for a closer look at this corner of California.

And now for the final "Where in Disney's World" challenge of the week, I've selected what may be the most difficult image yet. Or is it the easiest to guess? You be the judge. Where in the whole wide wonderful world of Disney can one find this little farmhouse? Put your guess in the comments, and the answer will be posted tonight. Good luck!

Also, let me know through comments or on Twitter... Have you enjoyed these challenges? What else would you like to see on the blog?

If you've paused to enjoy a Dole Whip in the Magic Kingdom, you may have rested upon these benches in Adventureland. Located just outside the Swiss Family Treehouse, the benches are comprised of stones and bits of wreckage from the family's ship. Look closer, and you'll spot tools set aside and the occasional rock carving.

For more on the Swiss Family Treehouse, click here to "Meet the Robinsons."

Where in Disney's World - Thursday

For your Thursday "Where in Disney's World" challenge, can you locate these prehistoric rock carvings? This may be the hardest one yet. Place your guesses in the comments, and I'll have the answer up later tonight.

These heraldic crests represent the cantons of Switzerland and are part of the decor above the entrance to Matterhorn Bobsleds at Disneyland. Did you guess correctly? Check back tomorrow for another photo challenge.

Where in Disney's World - Wednesday

Here's another photo challenge for you. Anyone know for certain where you might find these images? I can think of a few places in Disney's World that might be possible, but there's only one right answer. Go ahead and put your guess in the comments. I'll post the answer tonight.

These jars of exotic tea blends are found on the shelves at the Royal Anandapur Tea Company in Asia at Disney's Animal Kingdom. It's a refreshment stand, offering a variety of pastries and hot and cold beverages, but it also fits into the story of the region. In fact, area tea plantations and the old steam locomotive line that served them figure heavily into the story of Expedition Everest: Legend of the Forbidden Mountain.

Where in Disney's World - Tuesday

Today in Disney's World, we find ourselves glancing up to find some props that help tell the story of this refreshment stand. Do you know where it is? Can you figure it out? Make your guesses in the comments. I'll post the answer tonight.
