Detailed Walkthrough

After the completion of the quest Reluctant Steward you will be made aware of a debt that Drovas Relvi owed to a money lender by the name of Mogrul operating out of Raven Rock. Now that Drovas is under the protection of Neloth and out of Mogrul's reach, Mogrul expects you to make good on Drovas' debt. To help entice you to pay the debt, he will send his thugs after you until the debt is paid.

Mogrul will approach you while you are in Raven Rock:

"It seems you've inherited a situation."

Situation? What kind of situation?

"Drovas Revli [sic] owes me 1000 septims. At least he did until you set him up with that Telvanni wizard. Now he's untouchable. The way I figure it, it's your fault he can't pay me. So I guess I'm going to have to collect it from you."

You will then be presented with several dialogue options:

At this point, you will have the same dialogue options as above.

Mogrul's Thugs want all your money!

If you don't want to pay Mogrul, your only alternative is to kill him, with the risk of the Redoran Guard intervening to stop you. However, if you are observant of your surroundings while you are in Raven Rock, you can detect Mogrul and his bodyguard Slitter approaching you to demand that you pay up if you haven't been informed of your debt yet. He will follow you out of town if you are patient and don't run too far ahead, allowing you to discreetly dispatch him without drawing the guards' ire.

You can also visit Drovas and inform him of Mogrul's harassment. While he will not be willing to pay the debt on his own initiative, you can persuade him to provide you with whatever money he can to help you pay off the debt.

Bugs

• If Mogrul is killed inside the Retching Netch while you are hidden, Slitter will search for you. If you unhide so that he finds you and then attacks you and you flee outside, he will not follow you. Subsequently, even if you immediately re-enter the Retching Netch, Slitter will not be hostile to you, and will still tell you to talk to Mogrul.
  • The Unofficial Dragonborn Patch, version 1.0.5, fixes this bug.
• Mogrul can still send thugs after you, even though this quest has been completed.
  • The Unofficial Dragonborn Patch, version 2.0.3, fixes this bug.

Notes

• Any text displayed in angle brackets (e.g., <Alias=LocationHold>) is dynamically set by the Radiant Quest system, and will be filled in with the appropriate word(s) when seen in game.
• Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
• Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
• If an entry is marked as "Finishes Quest" it means the quest disappears from the Active Quest list, but you may still receive new entries for that quest.
• On the PC, it is possible to use the console to advance through the quest by entering setstage DLC2TT1b stage, where stage is the number of the stage you wish to complete. It is not possible to un-complete (i.e. go back) quest stages, but it is possible to clear all stages of the quest using resetquest DLC2TT1b.
