The Donald Duck backup issues Part II

As promised, here are some more photos from the "lost" issues of Kalle Anka & C:o/Anders And & Co.  [See previous post HERE.]
As you can see the small package has plenty of proofs in various stages. Some are lettered in Swedish, some in English and some have no text at all, but separate scripts instead. D-coded stories are mixed with stories from USA, Holland and Italy.
It's worth to mention that a few of these stories are unpublished.

Did we have fun browsing throught these stories? You bet. ;)

Let's take a closer look at some of the items.

First we have the compilation list for No 8.

Then the title pages to a few unpublished D-coded stories.

Now, the big question is: What was in the big package? I had hoped for some long lost Al Hubbard original art pages, or something like that... But no such luck.
What we found was proofs pasted up on heavy card board.

If you click on the image below you can see how an Italian story was re-formatted to standard Scandinavian format.

And there were even a few unpublished Rydahl covers.

I hope you enjoyed this glimpse of "what could have been".
:)

Andy Hardy by Al Hubbard - Part II

Finally... Here are the Andy Hardy pages that I've promised to post. You can see the original pencil script to te left and the printed page to the right.
Myself I find it interesting to compare and to see how close the artist follows the layouts provided in the script.

Al Hubbard did the finished art but who did the script? Hubbard himself or someone at Western?

Anyway, I guess that 1950's scripts from Western publishing rarely turns up so I hope you enjoy this post.

Hultgren or Hubbard?

These Barney Rooster pages from Supermouse were recently sold on eBay. Labeled as Ken Hultgren but I don't know... Looking at the gestures, poses etc I'd say these are drawn by Al Hubbard!

Wich reminds me to post those Andy Hardy pages soon...

Andy Hardy by Al Hubbard - Part I

A few weeks ago I picked up a scribbled script for a 1953 Andy Hardy story.
Andy Hardy was produced by Western, the same company that produced Donald Duck and Woody Woodpecker and had artists like Carl Barks and Paul Murry as freelancers back in the 50's.
I think there were only six issues made of Andy Hardy and that four of them were published as Four Color one-shots. This scribble was made for the third one-shot. (Click on image to enlarge.)

Now, the artist responsible for the artwork in the issues I've seen was Al Hubbard. The artist behind "Scamp" in Walt Disney's Comics and Stories. He also did the best version of Fethry Duck for overseas publication and "The Adventures of Peter Wheat"and "Mary Jane and Sniffles". While I don't have a copy of this issue of AH yet (I'm waiting for it to arrive from the states)I suspect this script is also done by Hubbard. Or does anyone have any suggestion who the writer might be?
As soon as I get the published version I'll post a page by page comparisation between the script and the finished comic.

While we wait for that one, here are some panels from Andy Hardy One-Shot #515. Just to wet your appetite. :)
