There are some books I treasure more than other in my bookshelf.
This is one of them.
Not only is it a great book covering the classic adventure strips, but this particular copy of the book is THE copy to have:
Noel Sickles own personal copy, signed by author Ron Goulart... :)
The book is now available in a new, redesigned, edition with new illustrations HERE.

Fred Ray strips
I recently bought these two strips on eBay. Both are by Fred Ray and signed "FRAY".
Notice how he uses light and shadow just like Noel Sickles did. And, yes, he was a big fan of Sickles. It was from Fred's collection Alex Toth and some other artists got their Schorcy Smith sets a long time ago.
I suspect these were drawn while he was doing his military service during the early/mid 40's. But does anyone know where these were published? If they were published at all. They seem to be aimed to people not in the army since they explain how things are in the army. If you have any clues please leave a comment.
[Edit: As a bonus here is the third strip that was sold at the same time. But I didn't get this one.]

Noel Sickles book
Just saw the new Noel Sickles/Scorchy Smith book over at Germunds apartment. And what a beauty it is! Sharp reproductions and a ton of extra material.
There's absolutely no excuse for not owning it yourself.
You heard me: no excuse!
Go get it at Amazon or your favorite bookdealer.
That's what I'll do in a few seconds. :)

Hey, waiter!
An "Adventures of Patsy" strip from 1941. (Click to enlarge.)
Doesn't that waiter remind you of someone?
Noel Sickles is rumored to have ghosted a big chunk of this sequence, so it's probably not just a coincidence that the waiter looks like Milt' Caniff even if this strip looks like the work of Raab. What do you think?
Always looking for Mel Graffs and Charles Raabs Adventures of Patsy strips. Copies, tearsheets and original art. Drop me a line at sekvenskonst at telia.com if you got something I might be interested in.

Noel Sickles - Bull artist
I love the artwork of Noel Sickles. (One of the artists behind the aviation strip "Scorchy Smith" in the 30's, for those of you who are unfamilar with his name.) Even when he draws a cute bull. :)
So here's one + a trademark Sickles woman.
The scource of these are unknown. Just found them on a CD with old scans and thought I might share them with other Sickles fans.

Bert Christman
I've got a confession to make. I've got a sick, weird and twisted hobby! It's called "Collecting original comic art".
Brrr... Makes you feel quite uncomfortable, uh?
Anyhoo, since I'm a rather strange mammal by nature I enjoy it. I get excited when packages filled with long forgotten dailies arrives in the mail. And I feel the adrenaline pulsing in my body those few seconds before an eBay aution ends. Can you think of a better way to spend a few hundred bucks? No, I didn't think so.
Here's what I won yesterday on eBay:
A panel/strip cut in half from "Scorchy Smith" drawn by Bert Christman who followed legendary artist Noel Sickles on the strip in 1936. This one is from, I believe, 1938.
More on Christman can be found here:

Here's a photo of Christman taken from the magazine Alter Ego. Take a close look at the strips on his drawingboard...
And here's the other piece of Christman art I own. Yes, ta-da, it's the very same art as in the photo. Unfortunately cut, but still a beautiful mood piece by this master of light and shadow.
I know of at least one other full, possibly unpublished Scorchy and maybe one or two more.
I can't help wonder what happened to the rest of Christmans Scorchy Smith dailies, and the rest of the two strips I got.
Do you have one or know about one? Please let me know. I just want to know if they are out there somewhere.
That would make me happy. No joke.
