HTC U12+ Smartphone Review

Mobile/Smart Phones by stefan @ 2018-10-05

The new HTC flagship does incorporate a unique interaction mode with the aluminum frame and instead of using regular buttons, it comes with pressure-sensitive sensors instead. It comes with a 6 inch Super LCD 6 screen that sports a resolution of 2880x1440 and an aspect ratio of 18:9; the pixel density is 537 and two color gamut presets are preloaded into the software distribution (DCI-P3 and sRGB). The included BoomSound speakers sound loud and clear, while the USonic earbuds audio signature can be fine-tuned on our liking and are the ideal companion when commuting to work.

Packaging, A Closer Look Part I

HTC has recently sent to our labs their U12+ flagship smartphone, which includes some very interesting features such as Edge Sense 2, two high-quality back cameras for getting clear and color accurate photos, HTC BoomSound, USonic and Qualcomm aptX HD audio but alsoLiquid Surface artistic design of the chassis. The U12+ also sports high performance thanks to the included Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC with X20 LTE and is available with either 64 or 128GB of internal storage, depending on the region; all SKUs have 6GB of RAM as standard, in order to be able to run a lot of applications at once and to avoid slowdowns.

The product is available in Ceramic Black, Translucent Blue and Flame Red versions; our sample has arrived in the Ceramic Black flavor and considering that it is a test unit, it did not arrive it the retail packaging:

The manufacturer has separated the smartphone from the bundle inside the enclosure:

Speaking of the bundle, we did receive the USonic earbuds, the Quick Charge 3.0 adapter, the USB Type C cable, extra rubber caps for the earbuds, a transparent case but also a cleaning cloth:

The supplied SIM ejector tool does also feature a cut-out with the HTC logo:

The supplied charger is quite compact and presents itself with a recessed HTC logo:

It does feature three output-charging modes -> 5V at 2.5A, 9V at 1.7A and 12V at 1.25A:

The charger is provided with an USB Type A port:

The charging/data USB Type-C cable does feature a rubberized layer, for a better grip:

The HTC USonic earphones can be purchased separately as well and the sound signature can be configured from the GUI; these come with face-forward cable design, a high-sensitivity microphone for conferences and regular calls and an aerospace-grade polymer diaphragm:
