Introduction

Coolermaster saw some recent review action at this site, today I take a closer look at a smaller device, maybe not as majestic as a full tower case, but functional nonetheless. A compact external hard drive enclosure is a new product series from Coolermaster, it carries the X Craft name and comes with different connectivity options, from USB 2.0 to Firewire and eSATA.

I got a silver coloured USB 2.0 version for test; inside you find the X Craft, an USB cable, power cable, a stand to put the device on its side and backup software:

Coolermaster did a stylish front design, with a nice black grill and their company logo which is illuminated by 2 LEDs (blue and red colored) when the device is active.

At the back there are 2 USB connections (the X Craft can serve as an USB Hub so you don’t loose a free USB), a power button and power plug-in.

The other versions feature an extra Firewire or eSATA port, the image below (courtesy of Coolermaster) shows you the difference:

The eSATA version includes a separate PCI bracket so you can easily hook it up to an internal SATA port.
