Miscelleneous by stefan @ 2012-02-07

The Libretto Limited Edition iPad 2 Case from Vaja comes with Argentinian high quality leather in multiple colors, is hand made, supports the sleep function and can be sit in two different positions; however, the product does not fully cover all corners and comes at a high price of 190 Euros.

Introduction

At first I would like to thank Vaja for offering a sample of their Libretto Limited Edition iPad 2 Case for reviewing.

Packaging, A Closer Look Part I

The Libretto Limited Edition Case is shipped inside a medium-sized cardboard box, with a perforated cover, through which we can see the rainbow colors inside:

By opening the packaging further, we can reveal the main product; the box also comes with a nice artwork inside, along with the Vaja saying “Make it yours. Make it Vaja”:

Two documents are supplied, one of them is a product catalog and the other one is the User Guide:

Inside the Guide, we are shown how we can sit the case for usage and we are also warned that there is a small gap on the right side when the product is closed for the first time; the manufacturer tells us that this is no reason of worrying because the lid will stretch in time and reach the edge, for achieving a perfect fit:

The product catalog shows the other items available for sale from Vaja:

The Libretto is built from high quality leather, soft to the touch and on the outside of the top cover there can be found the Vaja logo:

A Closer Look Part II

On the back of the case, we can find the same texture leather material:

Here there is a small clip which can be raised in order to use the case in different positions:

Opening the case reveals the red interior, offering a great contrast with the black on the outside:

While looking a little closer, we can see that on the red texture there are also Vaja logos debossed all over:

Here are some additional views of the case, without the iPad 2 installed:

The installation of the tablet can be done really easy, and the same goes with the removal; here we can see the gap on the right the manufacturer told us about in the manual:

A Closer Look Part III

No matter if the iPad 2 is black or white, it integrates very nice with the colors chosen by Vaja for the Libretto Limited Edition:

Here are some views on the portions that cover the top side of the tablet:

While looking on the top of the iPad 2, we can see that the top is not covered, so the Headphone jack, Sleep/Wake buttons are fully accessible:

Same thing can be said about the right corner and the camera, Mute button and Volume rocker are fully uncovered:

On the bottom we can see the fully accessible Data/Charge port, along with the larger cut left for the speaker:

By using the clip on the back, we can sit the iPad 2 in two convenient positions (one for watching movies, photos, listening to music and the second for typing and general productivity work):

Conclusive Thoughts

The Libretto Limited Edition iPad 2 case from Vaja is something different from what we have tested so far, and not in a bad way. Its appearance is very modern, uses real leather and retains the useful features like On/Off feature, possibility to put the tablet in two different positions for productivity and entertainment.

The case comes in three different color choices (Black&Red, Mamut and White), is fully hand made and depending on the stock, we may have to wait a little for it to get shipped.

This case has though two negative points and these are:

- the fact that it does not cover the back corner with the camera, so that zone is susceptible to scratches. Hopefully Vaja will make a revised version of the same case in the future and will also cover the mentioned parts;

- the price, which makes it an expensive variant to take into account; it can be found at the Vaja online store for about 190 Euros.

However, for the ease of installation, quality of materials, real leather and color variants, we will still award the case with the following prize:

I would like to thank again to Vaja for making this review possible!
