Mice & Keyboards by stefan @ 2012-03-26

The latest mouse from the Cyborg series is specifically designed for M.M.O. players, brings with it the nice features we have previously seen on the Albino and adds a lot more like extra programmable buttons, RGB LED lighting, the M.M.O shift feature, the unique 5D button, dual ActionLock or the custom World of Warcraft plugin. Custom presets for many games are also offered for download on the Cyborg website, so we do not have to lose extra time and can start gaming right away!

Introduction

At first I would like to thank Mad Catz for offering me a sample of their Cyborg M.M.O. 7 Gaming Mouse for testing and reviewing.

Interchangeable Pinkie grips and Palm rests

3 Pinkie Grips / 3 Palm Rests

- One Pinkie Grip / One Palm Rest with a rubber inlay for enhanced grip.

Assign 78 Programmable Commands for ANY Game

13 programmable buttons team up with a 3-position MMO mode switch and a 2-position MMO shift button to forge 78 user-definable in-game commands. Combine the programmable buttons with standard left and right mouse buttons and it all adds up to 15 buttons with which you can punish your competition.

Unique 5D Button Enables 5 Commands with a Single Control

Use the 5D Button to click up and down, left and right, and press in. Gain the competitive advantage by always knowing exactly where each and every mouse button resides - - without the hassles of training aids or the need to actually look at the mouse to locate a feature. Perfect positioning under your thumb provides lightning-fast access to your most important gaming commands. Mimicking the size and shape of the Precision Aim button found on its rodent brethren, Cyborg M.M.O. owners will feel right at home.

Intuitive World of Warcraft Plug-in

The talented developers at Cyborg have crafted an add-on that enables you to drag and drop spells, inventory items and macros directly to the buttons of the mouse. No more lengthy setup - - just jump in and quickly create the perfect configuration without the need to change any of your existing action bar settings.

Powerful Cyborg ST Programming Software

Cyborg's proprietary Smart Technology (ST) software gives you total control over the M.M.O. 7 Gaming Mouse's unique features. Adjust macros and set keybindings, tweak cursor sensitivity, create custom profiles for each game, and assign commands to your programmable buttons and modes. Easy, quick, and the all power you need right on your computer.

Fully Adjustable RGB Backlighting

Choose one of 16 million RGB colors to backlight the left and right mouse buttons. Whether you want an added touch of lighting to your rig, or indication of ActionLock button status, the included ST software allows you to adjust the backlighting to suit your preference.

Dual ActionLock Buttons Enable Fatigue-Free Gaming

When you’re several hours into a raid and your fingers start to feel the effects, a single click of an ActionLock button delivers much-needed relief. Each ActionLock button gives constant input to the main left or right mouse buttons when locked. Activate one for fatigue-free camera movement and character control, or unlock it to resume obliterating your foes as normal.

True 6400 DPI 'Twin-Eye' Laser Sensor with 4 Custom Settings

The Cyborg M.M.O. 7 Gaming Mouse’s new-generation 'twin-eye' laser sensor reads each axis separately and tracks up to a stunning 6 meters per second with pinpoint accuracy. Pro gamers who prefer low sensitivity with high movement speed will always experience correct tracking and precision. Four user-definable DPI settings range from 25 to 6400 and the DPI button lets you easily cycle through your custom settings.

Custom Weight System

Like it light or heavy? Maybe you change the weight to suit your game? No matter, the M.M.O. has you covered. Five 6-gram weights can be added or subtracted in an instant, giving you the perfect weight for a perfect feel. When not in use, the weights can be safely stored in the supplied Weight Storage Container.

Packaging, A Closer Look Part I

As we have seen on the R.A.T. 7 Albino Edition Gaming Mouse review, the M.M.O. 7 comes packed inside an odd shaped cardboard box, featuring the photo of the product on the frontal side, along some extra details like the total of programmable commands or the DPI:

In the top left corner, some extra icons with the main product features can be located:

The technical specifications table can be found on one of the box sides:

On the back, we have got the main mouse components explained:

The front opens like a book, only to reveal the actual product, behind a transparent plastic window, along with some extra details:

The box is sealed in multiple locations with transparent plastic adhesives:

On the top layer of the packaging, we can find the mouse itself:

The M.M.O. 7 features a nice orange/black color scheme and on the first look, we will see that it has a lot of similar features with the original R.A.T. 7:

On the back, we can locate the preinstalled themed palm rest, the removable screwdriver and also the screw for modifying the location of the thumb rest:

A Closer Look Part II

The screwdriver can be removed really easy and during usage, when attached, it does not create any comfort issues:

With the screwdriver out, we can also remove two extra items in order to access the weights:

The weights are in a number of 5, six grams each; the M.M.O. 7 is not very light so people that have used cheaper plastic bodied mice prior to it may feel the need to remove them completely on the first stage:

Here is how the bottom of the mouse looks like, with the weights removed:

The palm rests are easy to remove, by pressing on the orange metallic piece and pulling outwards, at the same time:

By removing the component completely, we can also discover that it can be placed in different positions:

The pinkie rests are also removable, by removing the center screw; near the right button, we can find an extra orange button, meant for the "shift" function, for doubling the functions of the buttons:

The thumb rest holds no less than 5 programmable buttons; the “sniper” button now can be moved in 4 extra directions, like a small joystick (Mad Catz likes to call this button 5D); in the same area we can find the second scroll wheel:

On the thumb rest we can also locate a Cyborg logo:

A Closer Look Part III

For a perfect fit, the screwdriver can be used to move the thumb rest in the preferred position:

On the front, besides the left and right click button, we can find two additional orange ones near the scroll wheel, used for the Action Lock feature, which reduces fatigue during long gaming sessions and also a DPI modifier button. Near the left click button, we can also find a Profile switch button with LED. Action Lock feature allows gamers to latch on the left or right mouse button at any time, mimicking the action of permanently holding down the button and resulting in less finger fatigue for the gamer.:

The left and right buttons also have RGB LEDs underneath, mostly for signaling the status of the Action Lock capability:

Underneath the mouse, we can see the metallic chassis with “Slick” PTFE Feet; the sensor area is protected with a small sticker:

Here is a closer look on the 6400 DPI Twin Eye Laser Engine:

The mouse cable is braided, has the same color theme as the mouse and ends with a gold plated USB connector:

On the second layer of the packaging, we can also find documentation and a box with extra bundle:

The documents are composed from a Warranty and Technical Support leaflet, a Product Catalogue and a User Manual:

A Closer Look Part IV

Inside the Product Catalogue, some other products sold by Mad Catz under the Cyborg brand are shown:

The User Manual instructs us on how to modify the mouse appearance but also how to use the software:

The rest of the bundle is held inside a plastic box, with the Cyborg logo on top:

On the top cover we will find the description of the items inside, two pinkie rests, two palm rests and a cartridge:

Palm Rests

Pinkie Rests

Weight Cartridge

The cartridge can be easily opened and in it we can place the unused circular weights:

The Software Interface Part I

After installing the mouse into a spare USB port, we can go ahead and browse the Internet to find the latest drivers and software for the device:

The application can be started by accessing the icon present in the tray; a small instruction window will appear which tells us how to perform the programming:

The interface is split in multiple tabs and inside the Product tab, we will see a photo of the M.M.O. 7, along with a description of the rest of the tabs; the Cyborg blog can be also accessed from here:

Inside the Settings tab, we can customize the DPI values for each step:

Each DPI step is represented by the number of LEDs lit on the left side of the mouse:

Precision Aim, a function that can be accessed by using the 5D button, will be customized in the same tab:

The Software Interface Part II

Also here we will find the Lighting section, where we can customize the frontal lights, depending on the status of the mouse:

RGB Spectrum

Inside the Programming tab, we can modify easily the functions of the programmable buttons, in the three separate modes, or the “shift” modes; in the same area we are able to create new profiles, open, save or save as the latest changes:

Mad Catz also gives us for download multiple sets of profiles, for a lot of games, so we do not have to waste a lot of time setting them up for ourselves:

As an example, the AION profile was loaded, and we can see in an instant the new button functions:

Each macro can be edited inside the “Edit Action Command” window:

After the profile has been activated, we can test the new settings by using the Test window:

Conclusive Thoughts

The M.M.O. 7 mouse has the great features that we have also seen on the Albino version and brings out even more, like the extra customizable buttons, RGB LED lighting, MMO shift, the unique 5D button, dual ActionLock or the custom World of Warcraft plugin.

The included Cyborg ST Programming software lets us assign functions to each and every programmable button and as an extra, Mad Catz has also put to our disposal a lot of pre-configured profiles for some of the most known game releases, so we do not have to waste a lot of time creating them.

For our confort, the M.M.O. 7 has a total of 3 interchangeable pinkie grips and 3 palm rests. The preinstalled pinkie grip and palm rest offers the finish and shape we have seen on the original R.A.T. 7; the second set is equipped with a rubber inlay for enhanced grip. The last set is composed from a pinkie grip designed more for comfort, which allows to rest the finger during long gaming sessions; the palm rest is 4mm thicker to increase the height of the mouse. The thumb grip position can be also adjusted by using the included screwdriver, for a perfect positioning of the extra programmable buttons.

Some weights are preinstalled on the mouse chassis, and in case we need some removed, we can place them inside the provided cartridge.

The braided USB cable has the same color theme as the rest of the mouse and is not very rigid as we have seen on other products, so we almost have the feel of using a wireless version of the M.M.O. 7.

The M.M.O. 7 is not the cheapest offering around and is available at the GameShark Store for about 119.9 Euros.
