Vaja Leather Suit for Macbook Pro 15'' Unibody Review

Miscelleneous by stefan @ 2012-10-25

Vaja has available multiple luxury products made from Argentinian high quality cow leather and on this review we will look at the Leather Suit for the Unibody Macbook Pro 15’’. The case can be ordered in the color of our choice (we can even choose the trimming color) and its surface is “floater” leather, a grainy cowhide with a special texture.

Introduction

At first I would like to thank Vaja for offering a sample of their Macbook Pro 15'' Unibody Leather Suit for reviewing.

Packaging, A Closer Look Part I

In this review we will look at another luxury accessory from Vaja, this time for the Unibody Macbook Pro 15''. The case comes in a silver-themed cardboard box, with the size larger than the laptop itself; on the lower right corner we will find a black Vaja logo:

The main product is carefully wrapped with paper and also sealed with a small sticker, for a cool effect; the :

Inside the box we have also found besides the Macbook Pro Installation Instructions, a secondary Macbook Air leaflet, which we think that it was placed inside by mistake:

The small manual will show us the steps we need to take for fitting the case to our Macbook:

We also get a Product Catalog to see what other items Vaja sales:

Let's take a look now at the case itself, which is wrapped like a special present:

The case we have received is in a Pompeian Red color, made from "floater" leather, which is a grainy cowhide with a special texture:

The hinge of the case is also carefully manufactured, with the trimming in a color of our choice:

As on the other tablet or mobile phone cases we have reviewed from Vaja, the top cover houses a metallic emblem:

The bottom side of the case is made from the same material, with a special design:

The Macbook feet are also covered and the new feet are the same color as the trimming:

On the frontal side, we have the center cut-out for opening up the screen:

The status LED functionality has not been forgotten so Vaja have cut a small hole into the case:

On the left side we have the cut-out for the different ports:

The right side comes with the SuperDrive cut-out:

The inside of the case is all black:

The inside leather is textured with a lot of Vaja logos:

On the corners of the case we can find black fasteners, which will help the chassis to be fixed properly inside the case:

A Closer Look Part III

The installation of the case can be done with ease if the instructions are followed properly; first we have to slide the Macbook Pro into the case with the screen fully opened. Then we should lay the machine onto the table and try to fix the case onto the screen bottom corners with the two fasteners. Vaja instructs us to press the Macbook screen upper edge towards the suit lid to fix it onto the screen but since this is quite difficult at first, we have found a better way: make sure the screen is properly fixed on the sides of the screen and after that close the lid and try to pull the top cover towards us, little by little, till it will extend enough so we will be able to pull the clip over the aluminum chassis:

Here are some additional photos with the laptop fixed into the case:

Impressions and Conclusive Thoughts

The Leather Suit for Macbook Pro 15’’ Unibody manufactured by Vaja is, without a doubt, a luxury accessory which is manufactured carefully by hand and can be customized with the colors of our choice for the body and the trimming, by accessing the configuration section from the website.

By monitoring the temperature values from the sensors (degrees Celsius) in light to medium usage (running a TV show episode for about 43 mintures in Flash), we have concluded that there is not a very big difference when using the Vaja case, which is very good. During testing, the ambient temperature was 25.3 degrees Celsius:

One thing to note is the fact that the MagSafe charging connector cannot be used in both positions with the case on, an issue that should be rectified at the future versions of the product.

The case is durable, only uses high quality materials and the handicraft process takes about 30 days. The price is not for everyone, being available for about $330 when ordered online.
