HWBOT TeamCup 2013 Stage 4

Tradeshow & OC events by leeghoofd @ 2013-04-26

The Team Cup 2013 is in full progress. The sandbagging strategy of most of the teams is set into overdrive. Till now no one besides a polish team has started off stage 4 of the Team Cup. Main objective is to share our passion for high speed and extreme cooling methods with an unknown audience.

First stop was at the MSI OC event, which took place at the CDROMLAND shop in the Netherlands. But the team of Madshrimps also got a nice get together at the Tones shop in Heist op den Berg, just a few weeks back. Last friday our last support act was done with support from Gigabyte and Kingston at the 2BY2 distributor Centre in Merksem Belgium.

I wasted already too many words, time for some pictures and lets start the final countdown for the HWBOT Teamcup 2013 !

STEP 2: TONES OC DEMO 8th April 2013

The Team Cup is back! As announced in the report of the last edition of the Country Cup, from February 1 until May 1 HWBOT is hosting the second edition of the Team Cup. In case you don't remember, the last edition was won by Overclock.net, so they are obviously the big favorites for this edition as well. The main theme of the Team Cup 2013 revolves around high-end performance since the beginning of this millennium. We took the most high-end components available at every second year, starting from 2000, and build a competition around it featuring the benchmarks SuperPi 1M, 3DMark03 and 3DMark Vantage.

The competition format is a little bit different than last year. We have reduced the amount of sub-competitions and stages, but slightly increased the hardware complexity. Even more than last year, it's quite likely you will have to poke your active and inactive community members to help out or even recruit new members! Also, the focus lies with older hardware and not so much the new gear. New this year is also the "Live Performance" stage which is designed as incentive to go out and promote your overclocking team and its activities in the outside world.

For this competition, we're teaming up with new HWBOT partner Cooler Master for the prizes. Both Cooler Master and HWBOT wish all the participating teams the best of luck!

STEP 3: 2BY2 Gigabyte OC Demo 20 April 2013

Last event we took part in was at the local distribution center of 2BY2 at Merksem on the 20th of April 2013. Sponsored by Gigabyte we got our hands on a nice Z77X-UP7 OC mainboard. Benching mainly 3D with the Gigabyte GTX670 OC and the 7850 Oc graphics card.

Kingston supplied us with fast 120GB HyperX SSDs and a 8GB 2400C11 Beast ram kit.

Location was tremendously well equipped for hosting such event/partys. Sadly for us the ambient temperature was scorching hot.

Very fun event with loads of interested bystanders. The main questions asked were: Can it run Crysis 3 and is it usable for daily usage? :p

Conclusion

I must say I was at first glance shocked by the monstrosity mista Massman had created when he officially launched The HWBOT Team Cup 2013.  Such a wide variety of setups and graphics cards were required to set scores in each benchmark. Testing skills, architectural knowledge and modding capacities to the maximum.

Till now Belgium's Madshrimps OC Team is still in the lead, but the art of sandbagging is  necessary evil wtih these kind of online competitions. In the final minutes of the competition some teams will pop up out of nowhere and grab top spots and points. It's all part of the game and it's a behaviour we are getting accustomed too.

The amount of submissions and participation is pretty intense with the usual teams battling it out till the end. It would be absolutely no surprise that some Polish, Greek or Indonesian team would pop out off the blue and claim the overall victory in the final segment of the competition. Let's keep our fingers crossed that our humble Madshrimps Team can stay in the top 3 position. Not bad for our little five headed team! This even with our star Overclocker Team Captain and HWBOT CEO Massman totally absent from the rankings. Probably floating somewhere in heated swimming pool surrounded by a dozen of Taiwanese Tom Cruise fans. It's a dirty job but he does it with pride !

The countdown has started, the Team CUP 2013 competition is over on the 30th of April.

A big thanks goes out to the guys at Tones webshop, for hosting another great OC day at their facility
