Packaging, A Closer Look

Mionix has recently released another series of mice, one of their members being the Naos 7000, which features an ADNS 3310 optical sensor supporting up to 7000DPI and a maximum tracking speed of at least 5.45m/sec. The product packaging is quite simple and follows the Mionix brand lines completely:

On one of the package sides we will be able to see the system requirements along with the list of package contents:

If we swap the box we will see on its back a short explanation of the main mouse components:

After removing the top layer of packaging we will be able to see the mouse, which is additionally covered by a transparent plastic mold:

Besides the mouse, inside we will also get a small leaflet and a Mionix sticker:

The leaflet contains information regarding the product installation, customization but also some words on the warranty:

The Naos 7000 presents itself with an ergonomic chassis for right-handers; the mouse is meant to be used with a full-palm grip and is covered by a soft-touch rubber finish. On the top we will observe two programmable buttons along with the rubberized scroll wheel:

On the back side of the mouse we will be able to see the Mionix logo, which is lighted by a multicolored LED:

On the left side we have two additional programmable buttons:

The right side is meant to hold the ring and little fingers:

On the bottom side of the mouse we will be able to see the central mouse lens along with four PTFE feet of different shapes and sizes:

The Software GUI Part I

The Mionix software allows us to customize the additional features of the mouse and the menus are located on the top side of the screen. The Mouse Settings menu allows customizing the button functions, choose different profiles, adjust the Polling Rate, Double Click and Scroll speeds, but also the Pointer Acceleration:

The user profiles can be renamed, saved, exported, imported or disabled:

Here we have the functions we can assign to the programmable buttons:

Default Commands

From the Sensor Performance menu, we will be able to adjust the DPI sensitivity levels for three separate steps, the Pointer Speed but also the Lift Distance:

The Software GUI Part II

In the same menu we have the Surface Quality Analyzer Tool (S.Q.A.T.) for finding the tracking performance of the surface we are currently using the mouse on:

Inside the Color Settings menu, we will be able to control which lights will stay on, adjust the LED effects like blinking, pulsating, breathing or full on and here we can also set the colors (including Color Shift mode):

The usual Macro menu is also present here, which can also record holds and delays:

The last Support menu gives us access to the F.A.Q. section, Product Registration, Support and Downloads pages:

Conclusive Thoughts

Thanks to the new ADNS 3310 sensor which is also present inside the SteelSeries Rival we get optimal precision, with no positive or negative acceleration and a maximum speed of 215 IPS all the way up to 7000DPI. The chassis design fits like a glove for right-handers and to the comfort also contributes the multi-layer rubber coating. As already reported by some of the users, the rubber finish collects oils from our skin and we may expect after some weeks to see circular shapes in the areas we will touch the mouse most.

Compared to the 8200 version, the mouse does now lack the DPI LEDs on the chassis, but we cannot say we miss them a lot; almost all customization options are here inside the downloadable application which allows saving multiple profiles, three DPI levels of sensitivity, LED light color setup, Macros and more.

In our tests we have included free-to-play MMORPGs, RPGs and strategy games. The mouse was used on the Ensis 320 aluminum for which we have obtained a S.Q.A.T. value of 80% and while gaming on Full HD we have adjusted the DPI steps between 800 and 1600. During this time the mouse tracked really smooth, without unusual cursor skips or other issues.

We are tempted to recommend the new series over the 8200 revisions because there is not a very big difference in DPI and they track wonderfully thanks to the ADNS 3310 sensor; the features we lose from the higher-priced variants should not matter at all.

The new Mionix Naos 7000 is available online for about 77 Euros while the 8200 version can be had for about 91 Euros.
