Cases by stefan @ 2014-03-31

The latest 760T case from Corsair takes part of the Graphite series and features specially designed side panels which allow a full-view of the system during operation. The inside quite spacious and was built with both air and water cooling in mind. Thanks to the modular drive cages, we have multiple mounting possibilities and the integrated fan controller allows running in both Silent (7V) and Full Speed (12V) modes.

Introduction

At first we would like to thank Corsair for sending a sample of their Graphite Series 760T Full Tower Computer Case for testing and reviewing.

Product Features, Specifications

Product Features:

A beautiful exterior, with windows to show off your beautifully-designed PC.

The Graphite Series 760T full-tower PC case starts with a visually stunning design that’s a match for its stunning performance potential.

The beauty begins on the outside with its sculpted shapes and ingenious, full windowed hinged side panels with flush-mount latches. The front panel has two massive 140mm intake fans bathed in soft LED light, and there’s a dual-speed fan selector for performance or silence. Inside, there’s ample cooling potential, with eight fan mounting locations and room for multiple radiators for self-contained liquid CPU coolers, or even custom liquid cooling. And, clever touches like modular drive cages and laterally mounted SSD bays maximize interior volume to help your high-performance dreams come true.

Swing-out side panels

The side panels are hinged, so opening your 760T is as simple as pulling the flush-mounted latch. They can also be removed entirely by simply lifting them off of the hinges.

Dual AF140L 140mm LED front intake fans with dual-speed control

The AF140L fans are custom-engineered by Corsair to deliver high-volume airflow with less noise and turbulence. The extra-large diameter allows them to run at a lower RPM, and they’re positioned to deliver cool air directly to your GPUs. A front panel switch allows you to toggle between silent and performance modes.

Ample cooling potential

Like all Corsair cases, the 760T is designed for high-performance system builds, and high-performance systems require sophisticated cooling. There are eight total fan mounts, with room for top, front, bottom and rear-mounted radiators.

A clever drive bay design that maximizes interior volume

The four SSD bays are mounted laterally to make the most efficient use of the interior space. The combo 3.5” / 2.5” drive bays employ a modular bay system, so you can remove the bays you don’t need. The end result is an open interior optimized for extra-long GPUs and free airflow.

Front I/O panel with USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 connectors

You can never have too many devices. The 760T front panel has two high-speed USB 3.0 connectors and two USB 2.0 connectors, plus headphone and microphone connectors for your headset.

Packaging, A Closer Look Part I

In this review we will be able to take a look at one of the latest Corsair cases, which takes part from their well-known Graphite series and sports an interesting new design concept. Since the case is a full-tower, we can also expect to see quite a large external packaging, which protects the product during shipping:

Some of the product characteristics can be viewed when looking on the side of the box:

Corsair has also made sure to show a drawing of the insides of the case, along with the expected dimensions:

A case exploded view is also available here, which will show us the components in more detail:

In order to avoid any damages to the case, Corsair have included foam material molds on both sides, but have also used a full black cover for the product:

The case is available both in black and white versions; our sample has arrived as a white variant and has a great visual impact, even before moving components inside. The lateral panels are initially covered with a transparent protective film:

Both doors are held steady via both magnetic force and the locking mechanism (quick release latches for easy access); they are also really easy to remove by simply lifting them off of the hinges:

A Closer Look Part II

Not only the lateral covers feature magnets but also the top plastic cover; after its removal we will be able to see the fan/radiator mounting points which are also provided with rubber grommets:

Here is also a closer look of the previously mentioned plastic cover:

On the front, Corsair has made available three 5.25’’ bays, which are covered with some stylish covers:

Further down, we have a large filtered metallic grill:

Facing upwards we will be able to see a small Corsair logo:

On the top we have the headphones and microphone jack, one small fan controller button which switches between 7V and 12V, two USB 2.0 ports, two additional USB 3.0 ports, one Reset button but also one larger Power button; both Reset and Power buttons feature LED backlight:

The back side of the case is all-black and here we will be able to see the hole for the I/O Shield, the 140mm exhaust fan, 9 slot covers, two holes for water cooling but also the bottom PSU frame:

On the bottom side of the case we have one removable fan filter; in the middle we can also mount an additional 120mm fan:

A Closer Look Part III

Here is a closer look at the bottom stands, which feature rectangle-shaped rubber feet at each corner:

Also, here is a view of the removed bottom filter:

Corsair has mentioned that the case was meant to be launched along with the 230T variant last year but it was delayed because of the difficulties during the creation of the side panel window; after all issues were resolved, we have ended up with a splendid finished design:

Here we have the locking mechanism (flush-mount latch), which works in tandem with the magnets which are placed in the corners of the side panels:

The side panels are not heavy while the hinges look pretty sturdy:

The right panel features a similar design:

A Closer Look IV

Let’s begin taking a look at the inside: compared to the previously tested Cosmos SE, the 760T offers much more space to work with. We would like to consider the Corsair design as less crowded but very efficient and cables can be routed without a lot of hassle:

In the rear, we will be able to see again the included AF140L fan:

Here is a closer look at the provided holes for water cooling along with the 9 expansion slot covers which feature thumb screws:

The case is equipped with three tool-free 5.25’’ drive bays, but is also provided with screw holes for a tighter fit:

In the front, Corsair has placed two additional AF140L fans but this time with white LEDs:

The 3.5’’/2.5’’ combo drive bays are in a number of six, which are placed in the modular drive cages:

The motherboard tray is not removable, but this should not be any issue considering the spacious inside; on its surface we will be able to see some remarks depending on the motherboard standard and Corsair saw fit to pre-install the spacers:

A Closer Look Part V

Near the power supply area we have two openings for routing the cables to the back of the motherboard tray:

Three additional openings continue along the right side of the motherboard tray:

The frontal 5.25’’ covers are easy to remove as long as we access their plastic clips in the back:

After turning the case on the other side, we will see some additional surprises Corsair has prepared for us in order to ease the installation procedure; the large opening helps when installing cooler backplate but also during their removal:

On the top side we have some additional openings for routing cables (from the top fans (with or without water cooling setups), LED lighting systems and more):

Four tool-free 2.5’’ SSD side-mounted drive bays can be also found in the front; for extra security we have also pre-drilled holes for using screws (which are also provided) and in these drive bays we can also install successfully 2.5’’ HDDs if the combo drive bays have also filled up:

The frontal grill can be easily removed by pressing gently on its top (until we will hear a small click sound):

Here is a view of the frontal intake fans with the grill removed:

Installation Part I

Before proceeding with the installation, we should make sure that we check out the contents provided by Corsair inside the small cardboard box:

Each component type is placed in a small separate re-sealable bag:

We will first take care of installing the power supply on the bottom of the case:

The nearby HDD drive cage was creating us a little bit of difficulty regarding clearance because we have used during our tests a non-modular Cooler Master power supply; the cage could be removed in a snap since only four screws hold it to the bottom:

After its removal, we will see the cut inside the motherboard tray better, which is provided for routing the drive cables of the second cage:

The PSU can be mounted in just a snap by using four screws:

Next we will go with the installation of the motherboard; One of the motherboard spacers is like a pin and helps with the placement before using the screws to tighten it to the tray:

Installation Part II

The motherboard sits nicely inside the designated space:

Remember that we were telling you guys about a fan controller button placed on the top side of the case? Well, here are its four fan connectors along with the SATA Power port:

Besides those we should expect to find the USB 3.0 connector, the HD Audio connector, one USB 2.0 connector, but also the Front Panel connectors:

A closer look at the hybrid trays reveals a 2-in-1 design which allows mounting of both 3.5’’ and 2.5’’ drives:

Rubber grommets for 3.5’’ drives are provided to avoid vibration inside the case:

We have succeeded to install and secure the test drive in just a snap:

Installation Part III

The SSD can be also installed really easy by simply sliding it inside the side-mounted drive bay:

After installing the huge Noctua NH-D14 cooler, we will be able to see that there is still a lot of space to work with on the upper side of the motherboard, something we could not say when checking out the Cosmos SE:

We have tested the Graphite 760T in two modes, first with air cooling and afterwards with CPU water cooling featuring a Corsair H105; here are some photos of the finished setups:

Air Cooling

Water cooling

After the temperature testing was completed, we have changed the PSU with a Corsair RM850, along with the motherboard and have tried to obtain a cleaner cable management, which we thing that was a success; trying to obtain the best routing for the cables is a must in such type of cases since all inside contents can be viewed clearly with the closed plexiglass side panel:

The case looks even better with the side panel attached so we can see all status LEDs/displays in operation:

Both Power and Reset LEDs feature a discrete while lighting; the LED which lights up the Reset button has the function to signal HDD activity:

The front also looks very interesting thanks to the two intake 140mm fans with LEDs; in this photo we will be also able to see the 5.25’’ optical drive which was the last piece of the puzzle:

Conclusive Thoughts

Corsair have succeeded again to release a case on the market which features an unique and interesting design after multiple stages of rigorous testing. The swing-out side panel doors are easy removable, light because of the use of plastic and are kept fixed onto the case thanks to the locking system but also to the integrated magnets.

When pitted against our trusty ATCS840, it performs admirably while keeping the noise at low levels, while using both air and water cooling.

The case comes with tool-less mounting capabilities for the drives; we can install storage devices inside the two provided cages on the bottom (the cages can be also placed one on top of the other), but also inside the four 2.5’’ SSD side-mounted drive bays. Three too-free 5.25’’ drive bays are also provided on the top side of the case and if we want to expand even more we can purchase two more modular drive cages for a total of 12 3.5’’ drives).

On the top side of the case we can install a 360mm, 280mm or 240mm radiator, while the front can house a single 280mm or 240mm radiator. We can also install a 120mm radiator on the bottom while the rear also supports one 140mm or 120mm in the back. Speaking of the cooling system, Corsair has included two AF140L intake fans with white LEDs but also one AF140L 140mm in the rear. The included fan controller can be used for switching between Silent (7V) and Full Power (12V) modes; the controller powers up from a single SATA Power connector of our power supply and can feed a total of four fans.

The frontal USB ports are spaced optimally so we would be able to connect any type of USB storage devices, no matter the size of their housing, without worrying about hitting the device connector which populates the nearby port.

The system looks really good when it is powered up, during both day and night; the only condition would be to have a really clean cable management and if possible, to use a modular power supply so we could get rid of the unnecessary cables.

To enhance the case functionality even further, we could pick-up the Corsair Lighting Node, which is also shipped with three SMD LED RGB strips and cable extenders, but in order to be able to set any color for the strips (instead of some preset ones), we will also have to pick up the Corsair Link Commander.

For Benelux, we have a MSRP set at 159 Euros for the black version, while the black variant is available for about 169 Euros. Regarding availability, due to high demand, the manufacturer has reported that the cases will be in stock around 21st of April so we are dealing with a bit of delay.
