Packaging, A Closer Look

More and more OTG flash drives are flooding on the market, useful for transferring large data to and from our gadgets or we can simply use them as a separate backup. One of the latest offerings from Silicon Power is the X20 Mobile Flash Drive, sporting an USB 2.0 bus; the product is available with 8GB, 16GB and 32GB capacities and has a total weight of 2.8 grams. The manufacturer is selling this product inside a simple cardboard enclosure with a plastic window, from where we can see how the drive does look like without the need of unsealing the packaging:

On the back side we get to see a small product description in multiple languages:

The X20 itself is really tiny (uses a COB (chip-on-board) technology), with the USB 2.0 connector exposed, while the microUSB port is protected by a rubber shroud. The cover has been designed in such a way so it won’t get lost by mistake:

The cover can be lifted with ease from the microUSB connector for plugging the drive in our favorite gadget:

Conclusive Thoughts

The Mobile OTG X20 USB 2.0 Flash Drive from Silicon Power is very compact so we could fit it to our key chain without adding extra weight or bulkiness. Its main purpose is to aid data transfer between our mobile devices and our PC, without the need of using cables of sorts or wireless transmissions. Of course, we can also use the device to backup our favorite photos and videos or offload the multimedia contents onto the drive, in case we are running out of space on our tablet/smartphone.

Since we are dealing with an USB 2.0 device, do not expect having stellar speeds; when transferring large files to the drive we have seen speeds of about 12.7MB and the data could be read back with about 18.2MB/s.

The product we have just tested is very affordable, so it can be found online for about $16.
