Tt eSPORTS BLACK V2 Gaming Mouse Review

Mice & Keyboards by stefan @ 2015-08-16

During our time with the Black V2, the product seemed quite responsive and comfortable, while the extra buttons can be accessed easily when in-game. The mouse was tested in multiple game genres and here we could count League of Legends, Echo of Soul, The Talos Principle, Serious Sam BFE but also GTA V; thanks to the new AVAGO sensor, the experience was accurate and if we feel that the default DPI steps are not for us in the current game, we can easily reconfigure them from the supplied application.

Product Features, Specifications

Product Features:

Upgraded AVAGO Sensor with OMRON Switches

With the new upgraded AVAGO laser sensor, the BLACK V2 laser gaming mouse now offers up to 5700 DPI. The DPI can be fine-tuned in increments of 100 DPI at a time. An onboard DPI indicator will also let you know which of the 4 programmable levels per profile that the mouse is on. Move with precision with the BLACK V2, as you can count on it at the crucial moment for that winning click to be accurate. Furthermore, the OMRON switches provide a crisp clean click with a life cycle of 5 million clicks. The BLACK V2 gaming mouse plans to compete as long as you do.

New Surface Finish

The BLACK V2 comes with a new surface coating that Tt eSPORTS has been working on for a while. It offers an even softer “soft to touch” finish (matte coating). The coating is a lot more comfortable in hand and enhances the overall grip of the mouse along with a new hexagonal patterned side grip for the thumb. The hexagonal patterned thumb grip provides users a confident grip that won’t slip without being too rough. As some other grips on the market may be uncomfortable, the BLACK V2’s thumb grip does not decrease the comfort of the mouse at all.

Red LED Illumination

The BLACK V2 features red LED illumination in three different areas. The scroll wheel, DPI indicator, and battle dragon logo. Lighting on the mouse wheel and battle dragon logo can be independently controlled. The mouse wheel also doubles as the profile switch indicator, flashing to denote which the profile the mouse has just been switched to.

7 Button Design

An additional thumb button has been added to the BLACK V2. Previously there was only one thumb button (mouse4), now there’s Mouse4 & Mouse5. Upping the BLACK V2 overall to 7 buttons to set macros on; for a total of 35 programmable macros across 5 profiles. Industry standard OMRON switches on the left and right click buttons provide the perfect button response with great durability at a rated life cycle of 5 million clicks.

ENHANCED Software / UI

The BLACK V2 comes with a new software/UI, offering much improved layout and overall intuitiveness. In addition the Lift-off-distance adjustment feature is now included inside the software, instead of requiring a separate tool to adjust it.

Product Specifications:

Packaging, A Closer Look Part I

Tt eSPORTS division of Thermaltake has recently launched a new series of peripherals considering that this segment is very active right now and one of the items we will review in this article is the Black Gaming Mouse V2. The product is shipped inside a medium-sized cardboard enclosure which features on the top a photo of the main product, along with some of its features:

On the back side of the packaging, the manufacturer is also showing us a screenshot of the software interface, which enhances the functionality of the product:

The top cover of the box opens up like a book in order to describe some physical details of the mouse, but we can also take a look at the Black V2 itself, without the need of unsealing the packaging:

As bundle, we will receive one very useful carry pouch featuring the Tt eSPORTS logo, but also a black envelope:

Speaking of the envelope, this one contains one Quick Installation Guide, one Warranty Policy leaflet, but also two case badges:

The Installation Guide is showing us the main mouse components and how the buttons are pre-mapped:

This is actually the second revision of this mouse, which now features a matte textured surface, a new sensor while retaining the overall shape the first version had:

In the back we will get to see the Tt eSPORTS logo, which lights up when connected to our PC:

A Closer Look Part II

On the upper area, the manufacturer has also placed the DPI indicator, with the help of some red LEDs:

On the left side we have two programmable buttons in bright red colour, but also a rubberized area for offering a better grip of the thumb:

Near the scroll wheel we have two additional programmable buttons, which have the same texture and colour:

On the right side we do not have additional interfaces, but this is the area was meant for resting the little finger:

Around the lower area of the mouse we will get to see one shiny plastic frame and on the bottom area we have an additional sticker with the Avago ADNS9500 sensor lens and an additional compartment:

The special compartment is holding the additional weights, which all sit in a pre-cut foam material interface, which is easily removable:

A Closer Look Part III

We can change the configuration of the 4.5g modules as we please:

As many high-end mice, the Black V2 is equipped with a braided cable:

The USB connector is gold-plated and its body is custom-made with the Tt eSPORTS logo:

Right after we connect the mouse to a spare USB port, we will get to see the pulsating brand logo:

Depending on the selected DPI step, the LEDs will light up accordingly:

The scroll wheel will also light up with the same colour thanks to its plastic body, but the interior rubber band helps keeping the grip to optimal levels:

The Software GUI Part I

The Software GUI of the Black V2 retains the same colour scheme as the product itself; the interface is quite simple to use, by maintaining the usual functions we have seen with other mice like profile selection, macros, light configuration, performance tuning and so on:

When “Battle Mode” is activated, the LED light effects will change depending on the clicking frequency:

The programmable keys can be set to have many functions:

T Key

Single Key

The Software GUI Part II

Sensitivity

Launch Program

Profile Switch

Disable Button

All DPI levels can be completely reconfigured, along with the lift-off adjustment and pooling rate:

Macros can be easily defined from a new GUI window, which we can afterwards assign to a desired button:

The lighting effects can be only turned off or back on, without any extra settings:

Conclusive Thoughts

During our time with the Black V2, the product seemed quite responsive and comfortable, while the extra buttons can be accessed easily when in-game. The mouse was tested in multiple game genres and here we could count League of Legends, Echo of Soul, The Talos Principle, Serious Sam BFE but also GTA V; thanks to the new AVAGO sensor, the experience was accurate and if we feel that the default DPI steps are not for us in the current game, we can easily reconfigure them from the supplied application.

In order to keep the price down, we won’t get RGB lighting, but the manufacturer did not forget to include a carry pouch for LAN parties, while the most stressed components, left and right buttons are powered by OMRON switches for durability.

As many Tt eSPORTS products lately, the Black V2 comes at a very affordable 44.9 Euro value, which makes it possible to be acquired by gamers on a budget too.
