Before receiving the Fantasy Pro Z1 LED Lamp we were a little bit skeptic on the overall sound quality because we did have previous experience with the Razer Ferox quite some time ago and while these sounded good on high frequencies, the bass was pretty non-existent. The small speaker seems to do wonders with this model because it can deliver clear highs combined with bass at decent volume levels; we have often turned the volume to maximum levels while paired with our Meizu MX4 and on several tracks we did not spot any distortions. The software seems to bring a decent level of customization to the product by adding light effects but it does not reside for now in Play Store and we need to download it from the website after scanning a barcode from the manual.
The LED lighting goes back to default mode right after we close the app and nothing gets saved to the lamp. Since we are currently discussing about the supplied application, we would like to mention that the Auto Music option trigger does not work, while the other modes, after they have been triggered once, they won’t stay activated, so they need to be set again every time. We think that this is not optimal and can be fixed via future software updates. As a suggestion for the manufacturer, we should have a wide selection of Clock Alarms from the application, like nature sounds, in order to wake up more gradually and in a pleasant environment; the Clock Alarms can be also paired with suggestive LED lighting effects.
Regarding the supplied LED light effects, we could have an additional one which acts depending on the music we play, while the color of the LEDs in this mode could represent the remaining battery life (green, which migrates later too yellow and will finally go to the red area when we would need to recharge the Fantasy Pro Z1 LED lamp).
We have also found a “hardware” issue which manifests itself only when we are listening from an analog source via a 3.5mm jack plug: when the device is charging, some buzzing sounds will be heard from the speaker; if we remove the charging cable, the sound will be gone completely. However, if we do listen to music on Bluetooth and charge the speaker at the same time, there will be no noticeable background sound present.
The cute OVEVO Z1 Pro speaker can be snagged from Amazon for about $23, which is an amazing considering its value.
