Edifier M1370BT 2.1 Bluetooth Speaker System Review

Speakers&Amps by stefan @ 2016-04-25

Right after taking a look at the overall product dimensions and specifications, we lowered our expectations for the audition stage; after checking out some YouTube music videos though, the system did surprise us with the overall quality at decent volume levels, which would make it a very good replacement for TV sets which do have sub-par integrated speaker systems.

Introduction

At first we would like to thank Edifier for offering a sample of their M1370BT 2.1 Bluetooth Speakers for testing and reviewing.

Product Features, Specifications

Product Features:

The improved M1370 BT is more versatile and functional, but with the same affordable value. Equipped with Bluetooth, this 2.1 speaker system can be paired with Bluetooth-enabled devices to satisfy all your audio needs, without the constraints of pesky cables or wires.

The subwoofer is enclosed in medium-density fiberboard to reduce audio resonance. It's also equipped with a front-facing bass reflex port for enhanced bass. And a bass trimmer dial on the side of the subwoofer lets you personalize the bass output to suit your taste.

Mounted on a stylish, translucent stand, the satellites are designed both for the eyes and for the ears. The upward-angled satellites project sound directly towards you. The unique design also provides stability to the system, effectively reducing possible audio interference that originates from the surfaces.

M1370 BT 2.1 speaker system can be connected to an array of audio hosts with the 3.5mm auxiliary cable. A master volume control dial is located on the side panel of the subwoofer with the bass trimmer and the 3.5mm line-in port.

Packaging, A Closer Look Part I

This time we are going to take a look at the low-end segment of the Edifier speaker systems and one of their representative is M1370BT. This one is shipped inside a medium-sized cardboard box, which sports a photo of the system right on the frontal area:

The opposite side of the enclosure presents us some more product highlights:

Right after unsealing the box and lifting the top cover, we will be able to spot more details:

First, we have a schematic from the manufacturer on how to perform the cable connections:

Secondly, we do have a list of box contents, in multiple languages:

As documentation, we are getting one User Manual along with a Warranty Card;

The multi-language short manual will show us how to perform the installation and which are the main product interfaces:

The product components are carefully stored inside a cardboard mold so they won’t move during transit:

The 8W satellites along with the cables are also wrapped in transparent plastic bags:

Right after unpacking them we will observe the frontal speaker cover for each which sports the Edifier logo; these are very light because the construction is made of plastic:

A Closer Look Part II

The dark grey plastic frame extends as a foot and it is a bit curved so the satellites will be oriented at an angle:

On the back side we will be able to see the satellite black plastic chassis along with the two-cable wire:

Let’s move to the next component: the subwoofer:

Unlike the satellites, the subwoofer sports a black wood casing (164x192x278mm), with a bass reflex port in the front; Edifier rates this component as 18W:

Here is a closer look at the frontal area of the subwoofer, which looks quite clean and also sports the Edifier chromed logo:

If we look closer inside the bass reflex port, we will get to see a small mesh which prevents getting dust on the internal components:

The other wood panels of the subwoofer do not feature additional interfaces; the actual speaker is located inside the enclosure, and we do not have direct visibility to it unless we do remove the back panel:

Speaking of the back panel, we do have here all the controls to our disposal:

A Closer Look Part III

This speaker model does not come with a wireless remote, so the volume and bass levels must be set from here:

Further down we do have the stereo line-in port, the LED indicator (blue from Bluetooth connection, red for analog), but also the speaker-out RCA connectors, which are color coded:

On the lower area we can locate the Power On/Off button along with the Power cable:

The bottom subwoofer area does feature four small circular rubber feet:

The system plugs in directly into the wall socket so we do not have to mess with separate power adapters:

The stereo cable is provided by Edifier so we can go right away and use the system with any audio source we do have available:

As the back ports on the subwoofer, the speaker connectors are color-coded:

We only have to perform the connections to the subwoofer, plug it in and it is listening time!

Impressions and Conclusive Thoughts

Right after taking a look at the overall product dimensions and specifications, we lowered our expectations for the audition stage; after checking out some YouTube music videos though, the system did surprise us with the overall quality at decent volume levels, which would make it a very good replacement for TV sets which do have sub-par integrated speaker systems. M1370BT subwoofer does seem to distort a bit if pump up the volume along with the bass level so clearly Edifier has built this system for smaller rooms, especially in apartment buildings and could also be used as a cheap speaker system for our desktop computer, if we are not a bass-addicts or like to listen at very high volume levels.

While the analog component of this system is simply plug-and-play, the Bluetooth connectivity seems to be nearly the same since the system is always available for new connections and no code is needed to be entered in order to complete the pairing; we have tried this process along with our iPad 2 Air, the Meizu MX4 smartphone but also our Lenovo convertible and the system was ready in a snap to playback our favorite audio content. To confirm Bluetooth connectivity, the back LED will turn from red to blue on the panel area of the unit.

When we have mentioned previously that this system is really cheap, it was not a lie; for only 41 Euros we can purchase this small system, which we think that offers enough of power and features for the money.
