Packaging, A Closer Look

Just recently we have received in our test labs a brand new product from Mach Xtreme and to be more exact we are talking about an USB Flash Drive. Their MX-Barium series of USB Drives, which sport a combination of USB 3.0 and USB 3.1 Gen1 Type-C ports are available with 64GB, 128GB and 256GB capacities; our sample is the 64GB model and has rated speeds of 200MB/s for reads and 70MB/s for writes, but let’s take a look at the packaging first! The product is offered inside a compact cardboard enclosure with a small window, which allows us to check out the drive without unsealing the box; here we will also see the speed ratings for the model and total storage capacity:

On the back side of the box, we will get to see the product technical specifications and also some info regarding the company address and product code name:

After removing the top packaging layer, we will find the drive surrounded by foam material:

To determine the flash drive read speeds, the HD Tune v5 utility was used; the read speeds are quite good with this particular model, while the writes are decent (when transferring data from mobile devices) as well for the 16GB variant:

To measure the real life performance, we have used the Total Commander application to copy to the flash drive and from the flash drive the same file and recorded the transfer speeds, after they have stabilized.

Conclusive Thoughts

The MX-Barium 64GB from Mach Xtreme is a future-proof USB Flash Drive supporting both USB 3.0 and USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C interfaces, has high read/write performances and comes with a sturdy aluminum housing.

Mach Xtreme advertises the MX-Barium 64GB as supporting up to 200MB/s read speeds and from our tests we came close to about 197-198MB/s; the write speeds declared by the manufacturer are in the 70MB/s range but the drive has proven that it is able to reach near 90MB/s, which is great news for any potential customer.

The MX-Barium 64GB can be purchased online for about 46 Euros.
