Fnatic Gear Clutch G1 Gaming Mouse Review

Mice & Keyboards by stefan @ 2016-11-02

The latest mouse from Fnatic Gear does not disappoint at all, by incorporating the proven Pixart 3310 optical sensor, Omron switches with a MTBF of 10M actuations and thanks to the rubberized finish but also the curved design, we can use the product during longer gaming sessions, or even (sometimes tiring) office work. While the software application of the Clutch G1 does offer enough settings for tuning the mouse performance, the LED lighting system is not as advanced as we have seen on other similar products tested in the past.

Introduction

At first we would like to thank Fnatic Gear for sending out their Clutch G1 Gaming Mouse for testing and reviewing.

About Fnatic Gear:

“Quality is everything. We've made the Fnatic Gear products to the highest quality standards, built so they perform and stand the test of time. If at any point in our manufacturing process we feel the products might not meet our exacting standards we will not release it. Simple as that.

But for us, this is just the beginning. We're in this for the long run. 100% of revenue from all our initial products will go back into the the development and distribution of new amazing gear to share with you and our players in 2016.

After acquiring the Swedish brand Func, we’ve been working closely with our acquired development team building and refining our initial products. We wanted to make sure we released with a range of products good enough for our players, and therefore good enough for you. Now, we’re ready to show off all four products, the all new Flick, the refined Rush keyboard and the range of mouse pads.”

Product Features, Specifications

Product Features:

Pixart 3310 Sensor

This optical LED sensor is the latest on the market and focuses on performance in terms of optimal tracking speed and acceleration, setting it apart from other sensors that push for more CPI (Counts Per Inch). It is the best performing sensor on the market and the first choice of sensor for any member of the Fnatic teams.

Omron switches

Omron switches with a MTBF of 10M clicks are chosen for the Left and Right click, ensuring that the CLUTCH’s quality will not fade during its lifetime.

Drag Reduction Cord

The exit of the cord support has been angled upward at a 30-degree angle. This prevents the cord from touching the surface in front of the mouse, reducing the drag of the cord.

Color System

An RGB LED lights up the CLUTCH’s scroll wheel. The RGB LED can be configured in any color preferred by the end-user and offers various brightness modes.

Onboard Memory

Onboard memory stores up to three profiles with three CPI steps each, as well as macros and light configurations. This gives the end-user the ability to smoothly switch between systems without any hassle.

Packaging, A Closer Look

It is time to check out another product from Fnatic Gear, and to be more exact one of their latest mice which is the Clutch G1. Based on the acclaimed features of the Flick G1, this time the product is not ambidextrous anymore and was mostly designed for claw or grips. The product box is fully sealed with a transparent plastic layer:

The packaging features Fnatic Gears’ signature, with a photo of the product in operation on top, along with the full product name; here we will also learn that we are dealing with an optical sensor:

The bottom box area does feature a small product description, the main product features but also the full technical specifications, which do include the manufacturer names of the switches and optical sensor:

After removing the top cover, we will get to see that on the sides we have some of Fnatic team statements:

Besides the mouse, we will also receive some documentation:

The document presents us the main mouse interfaces in more detail:

As we have seen with the Flick G1, we are dealing again with a full rubber coated mouse, which does make it pleasant to the touch and comfortable even longer gaming sessions:

A Closer Look Contd.

The curved shape on the back is similar to what we have seen with the first model:

On the left side, we’ve got a set of programmable, buttons, which are easy to reach:

If we move more to the front, we will get to see a Fnatic Gear logo:

The right side was designed as a rest area, and does also feature a product logo too:

Besides the actual left-right buttons (based on Omron D2FC-F-7N, rated for 10M actuations), we have a rubberized, LED lighted scroll wheel but also two circular buttons for switching between preset profiles. The USB cable coming out of the Clutch G1 has a drag reduction feature, which reduces the irritating drag feeling during gaming sessions:

On the bottom area of the mouse we will get to see the sensor lens (Pixart ADNS 3310 which does support CPI setup from 50 to 5000) but also the product serial number and power rating. PTFE feet are spotted in each corner, which assure that the mouse is moving smoothly on the surfaces we will use it on:

The supplied cable length is two meters, enough for most applications:

The cable ends up with a gold-plated USB port, which ensures optimal contact:

Right after the mouse is connected to our machine, the LED lights will activate, for both scroll wheel and the profile indicator:

The Software Utility Part I

The software for using the extra features of the mouse are ready to be downloaded from the Fnatic Gear website. After the installation has been completed, we will get to see that the GUI has a very familiar look to the one we have seen on their previous products; the Basic Settings area does allow the user to program X and Y CPI settings for each level, adjust the Pointer Sensitivity, Scroll Speed, Double Click Speed, set the option to Scroll by Page, or adjust the Polling Rate. The application can be also set to be loaded upon Windows boot:

Next we do have the Button Assignments area, where each button can be set with another functionality:

Different categories can be chosen from when assigning a different button function:

Mouse Functions

Fnatic Gear-specific Functions

Multimedia Functions

Office Functions

Windows Functions

The Software Utility Part II

We can also disable specific buttons completely or assign one of the previously saved macros.

The Color Settings menu does allow custom LED lighting for the scroll wheel; we can enable/disable the feature, enable Color Cycle, adjust the Color, Saturation, lighting Mode, Brightness, but also the Effect Time Interval:

Here are the presets we can select for the LED lighting:

Macros can be set up via the last tab and after they have been defined we can save them to the Library for later assignment:

Conclusive Thoughts

The latest mouse from Fnatic Gear does not disappoint at all, by incorporating the proven Pixart 3310 optical sensor, Omron switches with a MTBF of 10M actuations and thanks to the rubberized finish but also the curved design, we can use the product during longer gaming sessions, or even (sometimes tiring) office work. While the software application of the Clutch G1 does offer enough settings for tuning the mouse performance, the LED lighting system is not as advanced as we have seen on other similar products tested in the past.

We have tested the mouse along with CS:GO, Mafia III, The Division PTS but also Ghost in Shell and the mouse has performed optimally, while not detecting any issues during software setup. The Pixart 3310, while not the newest around, it is known as one of the best available on the market and the onboard mouse memory can store up to three profiles, each having three CPI steps available, but also including their own macros and light configurations.

The Fnatic Clutch G1 mouse MSRP is $59.99.
