Lexar Professional 1000x microSDHC UHS-II 32GB Card Review

Other by stefan @ 2016-11-26

The 32GB version of the Professional 1000x microSDHC card from Lexar is able to deliver performance as advertised and it can be used with both mainstream and high-end devices as camcorders, action cameras, tablets, smartphones, laptops, drones, PCs and many more. The UHS-II standard is using a different pin-layout, but for backwards compatibility we can see the classic gold-plated contacts in order to operate with UHS-I-compatible devices or even non-UHS-I devices, in the case it will operate at Class 10 speeds.

Introduction

At first we would like to thank Lexar for sending out a sample of their Professional 1000x microSDHC UHS-II 32GB Card for testing and reviewing.

Packaging, A Closer Look

Here are we at it again with another UHS-II microSDHC card from Lexar, sporting a 32GB capacity and being rated with up to 150MB/s read and 45MB/s writes which is equivalent to 1000x. This card also takes part of their professional series and was previously tested for compatibility with GoPro action cameras; hence the lower rated speeds, the selling price is also quite affordable versus the 1800x model. The product is shipped inside a less elaborated plastic/cardboard enclosure, which allows the user to view its contents clearly without unsealing. On the frontal layer, Lexar is informing us on the Image Rescue Free offer, the total storage capacity of the card, the supported bus, the rated speed but also examples of compatible hardware:

On the back side, we get a small product description, in many languages:

This packaging model needs special attention when unpacking, in order not to damage the leaflet which contains the Image Rescue 5 license code; we do also get the Professional 1000x card inside a plastic casing, along with an UHS-II USB 3.0 compatible reader:

While the reader sports the same color scheme as the one we have found with the more expensive Pro 1800x, the Lexar 1000x card has replaced the black half top with white, for an easier differentiation:

The adapter is small and portable, with the Lexar manufacturer logo on top:

It can be also attached to a lanyard thanks to the hole in the back:

On its back side we can check out the product code name along with its hardware revision:

As all microSDHC/microSDXC cards, the Lexar 1000x is quite tiny and features the supported standards on the top side:

The opposite area is all-black and comes with the usual UHS-II gold-plated contacts; the UHS-I contacts are also preserved in order to ensure backwards compatibility with most devices:

Lexar Image Rescue 5 Software

Lexar Professional 1000x is also supplied with a free license of the Image Rescue 5 Software, which costs about $34 on the manufacturers’ website:

The software will detect the connected Lexar card right away and display it. With the utility, we are able to simply Format the card, Secure Format so data won’t be recovered, but also scan for previously deleted image files:

The scanning process will take some time to finish (it also depends on the size of the card):

Our previously deleted photos were displayed after the scan has been completed, which tells us that the software is operating as intended:

We can select only the photos we are interested in having recovered and afterwards we will be prompted for a folder to save them to:

To determine the flash drive read speeds, the HD Tune v5 utility was used:

Summary Graph (Read Performance)

To measure the real life performance, we have used the Total Commander application to copy to the card and from the card the same file and recorded the transfer speeds, when they have stabilized.

Conclusive Thoughts

The 32GB version of the Professional 1000x microSDHC card from Lexar is able to deliver performance as advertised and it can be used with both mainstream and high-end devices as camcorders, action cameras, tablets, smartphones, laptops, drones, PCs and many more. The UHS-II standard is using a different pin-layout, but for backwards compatibility we can see the classic gold-plated contacts in order to operate with UHS-I-compatible devices or even non-UHS-I devices, in the case it will operate at Class 10 speeds.

By offering the compatible USB 3.0 UHS-II card reader, we are getting more flexibility for quick file transfer at the maximum speeds, even if the device we are working with does not support the standard, but is equipped with USB 3.0.

We do also appreciate the inclusion of the handy image recovery tool, which works as intended and can save us from a lot of hassle when necessary. Separately, the software is available for about $34, so we do get quite a bit back from our investment in the Pro 1000x.

Speaking of the sale prices, the 32GB version can be had for about 22.84 Euros, the 64GB for about 36.78 Euros, while the 128GB can be had for about 81.5 Euros at the time of the review.
