AKRacing Overture Gaming Chair Review

Miscelleneous by stefan @ 2017-01-08

Before using this gaming chair from AKRacing, we have only worked with standard office chairs and we were really curious why these types of chairs are so much adopted by gamers, Twitch streamers YouTube vloggers and many more. Well, after checking out the Overture we could say that the added comfort is not a marketing gimmick but quite real and it can be enjoyed during gaming but also when doing lots of work on the computer from home. The design of the Overture really stands out and customers will be really happy to choose from many color schemes in order to match their style.

Packaging, A Closer Look Part I

Nowadays we can spot a ton of peripherals on the market of very good quality which enhance the overall experience when using a computer in both games and productivity applications or simply browsing the Internet. In regular supermarkets, the offer regarding gaming and office chairs is not stellar and we have often found quite a bit of low-cost solutions which have not proven as being comfortable on the long run. AKRacing is one of the well-known gaming chair manufacturers which proposes solutions in order to make your experience when sitting at the computer even more comfortable. One example is their newly-released Overture series, which does ship in multiple color choices: Blue, Green, Indigo, Orange, Red, White, Yellow in order to accommodate the color scheme of your current gaming setup.

Our Orange sample has arrived in a quite heavy and big cardboard enclosure (it is not a surprise since the chair has a net weight of 22Kg, while its gross weight is 25Kg):

On the box side, we will be informed about the item code name, dimensions but also the direction the box should be first opened:

AKRacing is informing the customer that we should use other items than blades to open up the enclosure, in order not to damage the internal contents:

After lifting the top cover, we will first get to see the metallic five-star base which is fully wrapped in plastic bubble-bags:

The next layer does include the backrest assembly, also fully wrapped in a transparent plastic bag in order to avoid damages during transit:

Let’s see what we do have in store on the last layer:

Here we will find the seat part of the chair along with a separate cardboard enclosure containing the product bundle, but also a set of pillows:

The next step would be to unseal the accessory box and take a look at what we do have inside:

Here we can spot a Quick Installation Guide, five wheel assemblies, the gas lift, plastic shields, tools for installation but also the base where gas lift will be mounted into:

The Quick Assembly guide is providing us with a method of installation (we may choose to perform some steps in a different order):

A Closer Look Part II

After taking a look at all components, let’s go to work and see what AKRacing has prepared for us; first, it is time to remove the protective layer from the metallic five-star base:

A closer look on its back will reveal the central hole where the gas lift will fit in, but also the areas where the wheel assemblies will be mounted:

Even if the wheel assemblies are made of plastic, they are quite durable:

The left and right wheel from each assembly can rotate individually:

Before performing the first installation procedure, it is best to equip the provided gloves; we will also receive two different Allen keys but also some screws which we will use later:

The wheel assemblies can be installed on the base with ease, by simply pushing them into the metallic channels of each arm:

A Closer Look Part III

Make sure that each assembly is pushed all the way in order not to cause damages when utilizing the base:

After this step has been completed we will place the base aside:

Next, we will take a look at the gas lift along with its plastic shielding:

This particular model comes with a Class-4 gas lift, which can sustain weights up to 150Kg:

The gas lift shielding can be extended as needed:

We can then easily mount the gas lift onto the base and place on the protective cover on it:

A Closer Look Part IV

Next we will work with the seat part of the chair:

Overture model does come with adjustable armrests, while the PU leather does have two color tones, along with orange linings. The quality of materials and execution is impressive:

In the frontal area of the seat we will get to see the name of the chair written with big fonts:

Having adjustable armrests is a big deal because it adds an additional level of flexibility; on the right side of the seat we do also have an extra lever for adjusting the backrest:

If we do turn the seat on the back, we will get to see its metallic frame which enhances overall durability:

The metallic base must be installed here, with the existing screws:

The orientation must be also taken into account when mounting this element; it is written on the base with a small arrow which indicates the front of the seat:

A Closer Look Part V

We will then carefully attach the seat onto the gas lift:

The lever will help us adjust the chair height when needed:

The next element we will work with is the backrest; this component has an excellent execution as well, and follows the design lines of the seat:

The design also reminds us of racing car seats, which are made to be comfortable and keep the driver in a steady, secure position:

A Closer Look Part VI

The backrest has on the sides two preinstalled screws, which must be used in order to attach the assembly to the seat. This is an operation of medium difficulty and it is better to be done by two people:

The screws must be aligned to the holes, screwed loosely on both sides and after they have all been placed in the desired positions, we can screw them in tightly:

It is time to also add a bit of style on the sides of the chair, by using the provided plastic shields; this is also the moment when the provided black screws are utilized:

The assembly is not completed unless we install the two provided pillows, which also carry the AKRacing logo along with the Overture design:

A Closer Look Part VII

The larger pillow was made in order to offer additional support for the lower back (lumbar area):

It does come with an easy locking mechanism:

The smaller pillow was made to offer additional support for the neck area; it is also supplied with a plastic component which helps fixing both pillows onto the chair:

The installation is now completed and we were quite impressed how everything did fit like a glove (including the color scheme):

Here are some more photos with the chair after all items have been attached:

In order to keep the pillows fixed properly, we are invited to utilize the provided plastic component. Its installation was not documented inside the manual, but we could find it on the web, when checking information about other models:

Impressions and Conclusive Thoughts

Before using this gaming chair from AKRacing, we have only worked with standard office chairs and we were really curious why these types of chairs are so much adopted by gamers, Twitch streamers YouTube vloggers and many more. Well, after checking out the Overture we could say that the added comfort is not a marketing gimmick but quite real and it can be enjoyed during gaming but also when doing lots of work on the computer from home. The design of the Overture really stands out and customers will be really happy to choose from many color schemes in order to match their style. Compared to regular office chairs, the seat is considerably bigger and offers good support for your feet; also, we can recline the backrest in such a position so we could easily take a nap on it :).

The chair does follow stylish design lines, was built with quality PU leather which looks great and is easy to clean at the same time. We get to choose from multiple color schemes in order to fit with the rest of our gaming setup and comes with plenty of adjustments: adjustable armrests, height adjustment thanks to the Class-4 gas lift, backrest adjustment thanks to the extra lever but also features a rocking function (the chair can be tilted up to 12-degrees).

The chair is also coming with a durable steel frame on both seat and backrest for additional durability, while the 5-star base is made of metal, which supports weights up to 150Kg (also thanks to the gas lift).

The only negative point about this product (if it can be considered so) is its weight which is about 22Kg, which makes it a bit difficult to move around when cleaning up the carpets in the office room.

The AKRacing Overture Gaming Chair is available online for about 279 Euros; while this is not very affordable for some, the chair is an investment for the long run and really helps with comfort and maintaining a healthy position while gaming or working at home.
