Other by stefan @ 2017-05-23

The new EXCERIAL PRO M402 series offers enough performance for 4K video shooting when installed in devices such as action cameras, drones, camcorders, but can also supply extra storage for tablets, laptops or even productivity PCs. In order to offer optimal data integrity, the M402 series was engineered to be water, shock and x-ray proof; thanks to the large temperature interval of -25 to 85 degrees Celsius, the product can be used in the snow or even desert.

Introduction

At first we would like to thank Toshiba Corporation for offering a sample of their EXCERIA PRO M402 MicroSDXC Card for testing and reviewing.

Packaging, A Closer Look

Toshiba has recently launched a new line of microSDHC/microSDXC cards with the EXCERIA PRO M402 code name and these are aimed for 4K video recording but also for storage expansion in our favorite smartphone. M402 is rated with the new Application Performance Class A1, which specifies at least 1500 random read IOPS, 500 random write IOPS, while sustaining a sequential performance of 10MB/s. The sample we have received did not come in a retail packaging, but here is an example of it from the manufacturer’s website:

The product arrived inside a transparent plastic enclosure, which did also contain the microSD to SD ADP-HS02 adapter:

By supplying the adapter, Toshiba makes sure that the card can be used on a wide range of devices:

On the back side of the adapter, we will be able to spot the regular nine gold-plated contacts:

As regular SD cards, the adapter does also come with a write protect switch:

The EXCERIA PRO M402 does come with a white background frontal layer, but also here we will be able to spot the total storage space of the current model, along with the supported standards:

On the back side of the card, we do have the usual microSDHC/XC gold-plated contacts:
