GAMDIAS HEBE M1 RGB Gaming Headset Review

Others by stefan @ 2017-08-02

By having its hardware/software implementation based on C-Media audio, we do get quite a rich set of configuration inside the HERA software for the HEBE M1 RGB headset. The Virtual 7.1 speaker surround can be used when watching various multimedia content and we were happy to see that the positioning of the speakers in the simulated room can be altered on our preference, including their individual volume. As most gaming-oriented headsets, the punchy bass is noticeable even at the stock settings, but it is not over-the-top in order to cause headaches after prolonged use; we can adjust its intensity by using the 10-band Equalizer but we can as well enable the vibration unit for even more immersion.

Introduction

At first, we would like to thank GAMDIAS for offering a sample of their HEBE M1 RGB Gaming Headset for testing and reviewing.

About GAMDIAS:

Who we are?

The first three letters GAM stands for gaming art in motion, and DIAS is the Latin word for god. Therefore, GAMDIAS all together is, the god of gaming. GAMDIAS represents justice, allowing gamers to immerse themselves in the universe of Mount Olympus. GAMDIAS was designed to fulfill the needs of all hardcore gamers, while also providing a platform, "Olympics" for gamers to exchange tips and pointers. GAMDIAS & GREEK GODS Story

ZEUS is the God of the sky and ruler of all the Olympian Gods and known to mortal men as Dias, the Divine King. ZEUS represents justice and mercy, striking down wickedness with his infinite power. GAMDIAS has harnessed ZEUS' most powerful weapon, the lightning bolt and transferred into Psi-Manifestation, the ability to mold lightning into a physical form.

Packaging, A Closer Look Part I

We have been discussing quite a while with the GAMDIAS representatives regarding their new products and we are happy that some of their offerings have finally reached our labs. First, we will take a closer look at the HEBE M1 RGB headset, which does feature RGB illumination, 7.1 virtual surround, large 50mm driver but also a Bass vibration feature that enhances immersion.

The HEBE M1 RGB headset is shipped inside a medium-sized cardboard enclosure, which does come with lots of information about the product; the frontal area does reveal the main product features, including explanations regarding the in-line remote, the Bass Impact and Vibration ability and more:

On the right side of the packaging, we can take a look at the build of the headset, through a small, transparent plastic window:

The opposite side presents itself with the full list of technical specifications, along with the system requirements and package contents:

The product main components are explained in more detail on the back, in multiple languages:

After removing the inside contents, we will get to see that the HEBE M1 RGB does stay fixed inside a black plastic mold, while the cable and its remote are being protected in a separate plastic bag:

HEBE M1 RGB is not the lightest gaming headset we have tested so far, but comes with a very sturdy construction and large cups for enhanced comfort:

On the exterior of the right cup, we can spot an interesting design, with a dotted V-shaped area RGB LED enabled; the product logo is also present here:

A small cable router that is made in the shape of the GAMDIAS logo accompanies the metallic frame:

The thick padding that comes with the leatherette ensures that HEBE M1 RGB can be worn comfortably even during longer usage sessions; unlike the initial presentation photos, the inside is oval shaped:

On the left cup, we can see a similar design, with two main differences: this area does also house the retractable microphone along with the USB cable:

A Closer Look Part II

The microphone is featuring a plastic coated adjustable cord, which does extend about 60mm outside of the cup:

HEBE M1 RGB does come with an auto-adjustable headband; it was designed to fit any head size and does also contain a thin strip of foam inside for additional comfort. Same black PU leather material can be found here:

The cable that travels from one cup to the other is passed through the headband:

On the top area of the headband we did spot another GAMDIAS logo:

The manufacturer has made sure that the 2-meter cable is sturdy enough, so besides the braiding, we are also seeing a plastic coating:

Next, we are going to talk about the in-line remote, which does come with multiple buttons and allows control of the headset on-the-fly; we do have a button for turning the Bass vibration feature on and off, a Microphone mute button but also a LED lighting On/Off button:

When the functions are activated, these buttons do also have their own LED lighting:

A Closer Look Part III

On the side, we will be able to spot the Volume =/- buttons, which are meant to adjust the levels right from the OS:

The opposite remote area does not have any additional interfaces:

The USB cable ends up with a custom-designed connector:

Nearby we will also find a notice that we should download the extra software from the GAMDIAS website:

After plugging in the headset to a spare USB port, the LED lighting setup will begin cycling through all available colors:

The HERA Software Part I

In order to benefit from the extra headset features, we will have to go on the GAMDIAS website and download the latest version of the HERA software (which is unified and supports their other type of peripherals too). Make sure to download the separate driver package too, which is not included in the main HERA setup program! After the headset has been detected, its interface with options will be displayed right away for customization; some of you people will be able to recognize some elements of the older C-Media console here. The Main Setting menu does allow the user to work with the Input/Output options, but also enable the 7.1 Virtual Surround effects:

By enabling the Surround mode, some extra options will become available; we can also adjust the volume level for each cup, independently:

For the output, we can choose between two different options (headphone and 2 speakers), but also can select the sampling rate:

The HERA Software Part II

The Equalizer is available on 10 bands and besides a custom configuration, we can choose one of the available presets down below:

Surround sound can be adjusted on preset environments and is rendered accurately:

Next, we do have the Karaoke/MG Voice menu, where microphone-related options can be further modified; an integrated Magic Voice feature is also included here, in order to have fun with your friends:

The Update/Support area will give us information regarding the connected peripheral, current HERA software version but from here we can also access Online Support:

Impressions and Conclusive Thoughts

The retractable microphone cannot be extended as much as we have seen on other models, but is able to pick up sound clearly, without introducing extra static; however, it will pick up noises from your vicinity such as computer fan noises, other people talking nearby and so on.

While the HEBE M1 RGB headset does indeed feature multicolored LED lighting, we do not have any possibility on configuring the setup, but only turn On/Off, the On mode meaning a continuous color cycle.

We have tested the headset while connected to an USB hub, but also plugged in to a spare USB port on the motherboard I/O; with the connection to the USB hub, the headset did not seem to get enough power because we were getting strange pop sounds from time to time. When we have connected the headset directly, there were zero issues whatsoever.

As improvements for future models, we would go with a smaller in-line remote (by retaining the same configuration of buttons), but also a custom LED lighting system.

The HEBE M1 RGB headset can be picked up online for about 70 Euros, which makes it quite affordable for most.
