Packaging, A Closer Look Part I

CORSAIR has just launched their new line of gaming headsets which are now named VOID PRO, offering various enhancements versus the older revisions across overall comfort, microphone quality and wireless performance. The VOID PRO design was engineered along with BMW’s DesignWorks studio in California, ensuring premium quality and long-term durability.

The new headset line is composed of VOID PRO Surround that utilizes the wired 3.5mm analog interface and no RGB lightning, the VOID PRO RGB USB version which utilizes the USB bus, the VOID PRO RGB Wireless model which we are going to check out today, but also the VOID PRO RGB Wireless SE that is pretty much identical to the non-SE regarding technical specs but comes with a special color scheme and also a base station for the wireless transmitter.

The product is shipped inside a CORSAIR Gaming-themed cardboard enclosure and the manufacturer does list some of the product highlights on the top layer; the VOID PRO RGB Wireless headset is available in two color schemes: carbon and white

On one of the box sides, CORSAIR is advertising the CUE unified software solution:

Another photo with the controls of the VOID PRO RGB Wireless can be spotted on the opposite side:

Moving on to the back, we will be able to see a more detailed photo of the product, on which CORSAIR explains the product components; a list of technical specifications in multiple languages can be also found further down:

Of course, we will also find the list of package contents on the bottom box area:

After removing the top packaging layer, we will end up with a yellow cardboard enclosure:

Let’s see what it hides inside:

The first thing we can see is the VOID PRO RGB Wireless itself, which is secured by a middle cardboard component, so it won’t move during transit:

As bundle, we will receive more stuff, each being individually packaged in plastic bags:

Regarding the documentation, we are receiving one Warranty Guide leaflet, the Quick Start Guide but also a Safety Leaflet:

The Quick Start Guide comes in multiple languages and gives us detailed information on the product usage:

A Closer Look Part II

The VOID PRO RGB Wireless also ships with a microphone foam windscreen for eliminating other noises such as breathing:

The USB Wireless transmitter comes with a plastic chassis and features on the top a pairing button along with the Wireless sync LED indicator:

On its back, the manufacturer has included a sticker with the internal code name, but also the serial numbers:

We are also receiving an USB cable for charging the headset; besides the usual charging while IDLE, VOID PRO RGB Wireless can be also charged while in-use:

The cable comes with customized USB ports, in order to fit in with the rest of the styling:

The white version of the VOID PRO RGB Wireless headset does also feature black sections in the area of the headband, the microphone but also the earcups; all VOID PRO models do weight 390 grams, the only exception being the 3.5mm analog wired version that weights 380 grams:

The cups can be rotated in order to offer an additional layer of comfort:

On the exterior of the right cup, we can spot a shiny black layer, which contains the RGB-enabled CORSAIR logo; the metal cantilevered yokes do increase the product durability:

A Closer Look Part III

With the new series, CORSAIR is using a new formula for the memory foam material, that can be found with the earcups and headband. The black breathable microfiber mesh does complete the solution:

The control interfaces do reside on the left cup, where we can also find the unidirectional noise-cancelling microphone; we can easily spot the Power On/Off button along with the Microphone Mute button:

On the lateral, we do also have a small LED for signaling the charging state or the pairing status, a USB port but also a multi-function dial. By turning the dial upwards, we will increase the volume and if we do turn the dial downwards, we will decrease the volume; a quick press on the dial inwards will allow us to cycle between the saved EQ profiles, while if we do press and hold, we will be able to switch between Stereo and Dolby Headphone 7.1 Surround sound:

On the interior of the headband, we can also observe that the audio channels are marked:

The outside portion will reveal a grey CORSAIR logo:

Depending on the head size and shape, the headband can be adjusted accordingly:

The headband is also reinforced with metal on the inside:

The flexible microphone body allows us to adjust it in the desired position:

With the new series, the Mute LED has been repositioned in order to be more visible during gaming sessions; when flipped up, the microphone will be automatically muted but if we do like to have the mic muted in a normal operating position, we will have to press the designated button from the left cup:

CORSAIR Utility Engine Part I

Right after we have installed the latest CUE version, we were prompted to perform a firmware update on the VOID PRO RGB Wireless; for this process, we need to have both headset and wireless transmitter connected via USB at the same time:

On the left side of the CUE GUI, we do have the profile selector, which also allows us to sync with other CORSAIR CUE-enabled peripherals we are using at the moment; the central area displays a photo of the configured device, while on the right we can adjust the Microphone and Sidetone levels (Sidetone can be also muted if the Mute hardware button is pressed and held). The Sidetone function is helpful during conferencing so users can hear themselves in the ear cups in order to avoid shouting:

Here we will also find the Stereo/Dolby Headphone button, that can be used depending on the audio material we are listening to:

Moving on to the next main menu, we can adjust the lighting effects; a drop-down menu can be easily spotted, which will be used in order to obtain the desired result:

Depending on the selected effect, a different set of options will be made available:

CORSAIR Utility Engine Part II

The EQ Presets menu is next, where we can choose to go with one of the pre-defined 10-band preset or define new ones:

Some other options can be accessed by pressing the top small “gear” icon such as enabling the interesting “Voice prompts” for mentioning when the microphone is muted or not, we get informed which EQ setting is selected, the current surround setting and so on; we also have the option here to disable the automatic shutdown feature (which conserves battery life), check out the current battery life but also adjust the LED brightness:

Impressions and Conclusive Thoughts

After trying out the new VOID PRO RGB Wireless for a few hours at the first instance, the unit did feel quite light, while the soft memory foam for both headrest and cups contributes quite a bit to the overall comfort. Users of the previous VOID Wireless revision will feel right at home since the position of the control buttons did not change and the quality of the materials and frame sturdiness can be observed right away.

VOID PRO RGB Wireless does use 50mm neodymium drivers inside the cups for offering a good representation of middle and low frequencies; we did watch several episodes of The Mist and Preacher with VOID PRO RGB Wireless and we can say that we were quite impressed by the audio quality and the fact that the bass was not overpowering as with some other gaming headset models. The experience was even more interesting when turning on the Dolby Headphone 7.1 feature on, which does successfully simulate a cinema hall.

We did also try some games such as Mafia III, Secret World Legends and Kritika Online and we were pleased with the immersion the VOID PRO RGB Wireless do offer; thanks to the controls on the left cup, we could switch between the EQ presents in a snap and while conferencing with our friends via Skype we could be heard clearly; VOID PRO RGB Wireless does also tested in order to fit in with DISCORD standards. The Sidetone feature is also useful in tournaments, when we do game with many other people in the same room, for making sure we do not shout at the microphone.

For trying out the enhanced wireless performance, we walked in all the apartment rooms while keeping the wireless transmitter in the same place and we can say that the audio quality did not decrease at all and we did not have any interruptions either.

The headset is RGB enabled and can be easily configured in this aspect with the unified CUE software.

Regarding the battery life, we have recorded about 14.5 hours of continuous use, which is quite close to the advertised 16 hours of battery life; this can change depending on the volume levels, the RGB lighting mode and so on.

As with the original VOID series, we can enable voice prompts for telling us which EQ profile is currently applied, the microphone status, the Dolby feature status and more!

The MSRP of the VOID PRO RGB Wireless Gaming Headset is $99.99.
