GAMDIAS HERMES P1 RGB Mechanical Gaming Keyboard Review

Mice & Keyboards by stefan @ 2017-09-10

Since this keyboard does arrive with the exact same switch model as the ROCCAT Suora FX, we have had a similar overall experience when using it while playing games such as Kritika Online, Agents of Mayhem, Black Desert Online or Secret World Legends. The unified HERA software offers plenty of configuration options (does have a portable version available as well), while several options can be accessed right from the keyboard, thanks to the multitude of function keys. We do get a free plastic wrist rest in the package and the custom keycaps do look great when the LED lighting is activated.

Introduction

At first, we would like to thank GAMDIAS for offering a sample of their HERMES P1 RGB Mechanical Gaming Keyboard for testing and reviewing.

About GAMDIAS:

Who we are?

The first three letters GAM stands for gaming art in motion, and DIAS is the Latin word for god. Therefore, GAMDIAS all together is, the god of gaming. Packaging, A Closer Look Part I

Along the HEBE M1 gaming headset from GAMDIAS, we have also received the mechanical RGB HERMES P1 keyboard, which does not come with the usual “Cherry MX” switches, but TTC. We are not unfamiliar with this type of switches, since we have already checked out the ROCCAT Suora FX that packs TTC RGB Browns.

The HERMES P1 RGB is shipped inside a medium-sized cardboard enclosure and the manufacturer does not omit to include the main product highlights on the top cover:

Here we will also learn of the utilized mechanical switches (and contoured keycaps), along with the free key puller:

The side of the packaging does also reveal some more product features:

If the potential customer is interested in checking out more product details, these are offered on the bottom area of the enclosure:

After unsealing the box and lifting the top cover, we will get to see that the product is protected from all sides from damages during transit:

The Quick Installation Guide document does reveal the extra key functions and how to activate them:

HERMES P1 RGB does come with a top brushed aluminum shell, which gives it a premium look:

The key caps are designed in order to benefit from the LED backlight and do feature custom fonts:

The F2 and F3 keys do sport multimedia functions, while the F4 permits switching the functions between WASD and the directional keys:

A Closer Look Part II

The next function keys do also sport multimedia functions:

The F9 key does enable on-the-fly Macro recording, while the F11 locks the keyboard completely (an interesting feature by the way):

From 1 to 6, we will get to see the sets of customizable gaming profiles:

G1 and G2 offer a macro each for every profile:

While we were used before to see on most keyboards the Windows key on the left side of the Spacebar and the FN key on the right, on the HERMES P1 RGB these are switched:

On the top of the directional keys, we can see even more functions:

-Insert key does enable Wave LED lighting effect

-Home key does enable a Slide-in LED lighting effect

-Delete key does enable Rotation LED effect

-End key does enable a Static LED light, and also from this button, if pressed again, we can turn the LEDs off

-Page Up/Down keys allows the user to adjust the speed steps

The numeric pad does also have the 2 and 8 keys double functions for adjusting the LED light intensity:

In the top right corner, we can see the Num Lock, Caps Lock and Gaming mode LEDs:

The top-mounted switches do allow an easy cleaning process:

A Closer Look Part III

Cutouts are provided in the aluminum shell for easy mounting of the wrist rest….wait, we did say a wrist rest? Correct, this keyboard also includes one in the package:

The supplied wrist rest does come with a rough plastic texture and its own small plastic feet on the bottom:

Thanks to the mounting system, the wrist rest installation/removal can be done in a snap:

A view from the side of the keyboard does show how the top aluminum shell combines with the plastic base:

On the frontal area of the keyboard, we do not have any extra interfaces (such as an USB hub or audio ports):

The bottom area of the HERMES P1 does include cable routing paths, a place to store the bundled key puller, but also a central sticker with the product serial number:

The key puller does facilitate the key cap removal, without damaging the switch:

Some small rubber feet can be spotted in the corners:

Even the kickstands do come with rubber segments, so the keyboard will be secured on the surface we will use it on:

After removing the keycaps, we can reveal the TTC-branded RGB Brown switches:

As we have seen with high-end peripherals, the USB cable is fully-braided:

A custom gold-plated USB connector can be also seen here:

LED Lighting Colors

As soon as the keyboard is connected to a spare USB port, the LED light show will begin; here are some examples:

The HERA Software Part I

As the HEBE M1 RGB, the HERMES P1 RGB keyboard can be further configured thanks to the unified HERA software from GAMDIAS. GAMDIAS not only offers an installable version of the software, but also a portable one. On the left side we’ve got the main menus, while on the right we do have the profile selector; the Key Assignment area does allow the user to change the default key mappings:

Here are the functions we can assign:

Keyboard Keys

Quick Launch

Media Controls

Windows Functions

Blueprint

Call HERA

HERA Download

The Macro Management menu is next, where we can record the desired macro sequences in detail:

The HERA Software Part II

The Keyboard Luminance menu does allow the user to customize the LED lighting effects:

Each Effect comes with its own configuration options:

Breathing

Wave

Responsive Fade Out

Marquee

Ripple

Responsive Fade In

Neon

Colorful Marquees

Rainbow drops

The HERA Software Part III

Circular Marquees

Different sounds and timers can be also adjusted from the next section:

Of course, we can also record new sounds to add to our selection:

The timer setup has a dedicated menu:

The Update/Support area does assist with the update process for both application and firmware of the keyboard:

Impressions and Conclusive Thoughts

Since this keyboard does arrive with the exact same switch model as the ROCCAT Suora FX, we have had a similar overall experience when using it while playing games such as Kritika Online, Agents of Mayhem, Black Desert Online or Secret World Legends. The keys are very responsive and less mushy versus the original Cherry MX Browns and regarding the noise, if you have had a Cherry MX Silent switch keyboard before, the GAMDIAS HERMES P1 is a bit louder overall. Thanks to the utilized top aluminum layer, we do get an overall premium feel, while the custom keycaps do fully benefit from the RGB LEDs underneath.

Plenty of configurations can be accessed from the keyboard function keys, but also miscellaneous options, such as the one to switch between WASD and directional key mappings, but also the option to be able to disable the keys completely. The RGB LED lighting can be configured in detail from the HERA unified software, along with many other options such as timers, audio alerts, macros etc.

In order to keep the cost of the product down, the included wrist rest is very simple, with a rough plastic texture, while competitors do use a rubber layer on top or even memory foam covered with leatherette.

The only negative aspect we would like to note with this model is that when specific colors are selected, we did hear a small buzzing noise coming from the keyboard.

Online, the HERMES P1 RGB keyboard can be found for about 70 Euros, which is great for what features we are getting.
