CHERRY KC 6000 Slim Keyboard Review

Mice & Keyboards by stefan @ 2018-07-24

The new KC 6000 Slim keyboard does come with a premium look and is ideal for people that enjoy laptop-style keys, even when working with desktops. The SX CHERRY switches are silent and offer a low-key travel of just about 2.5mm; these are rated for 10 million keypresses so we would recommend the keyboard for productivity work as well.

Introduction

Packaging, A Closer Look Part I

Not long ago, we have received in our test lab the KC 6000 Slim “ultra-flat” keyboard from CHERRY that uses their SX switches. You will get the look and feel of regular scissor-style rubber dome switches found with laptop keyboards and people owning desktops will be able to enjoy the same type of keys.

KC 6000 Slim has arrived inside a medium-sized cardboard enclosure that shows a photo of the keyboard in operation:

On the top cover, the manufacturer does also mention the keyboard layout; this model is also available with an USA layout, Switzerland, Spain, Pan Nordic, German or France layouts:

A list of package contents and product highlights can be spotted on the bottom:

By lifting the top box cover, we will get to see that the KC 6000 Slim is also wrapped inside a transparent plastic bag, in order to avoid scratches or other damages:

Technical details along with the list of box contents can be checked out on the bottom box layer:

CHERRY KC 6000 Slim is available in black or silver, is surprisingly light (about 660g) and features a sturdy construction by integrating a metal plate:

The CHERRY SX switches are rated for 10 million keypresses and require 65cN of actuation force; the key travel is just 2.5mm. The Caps Lock key is provided with a small white LED:

A Closer Look Part II

Near the F12 key, we do also have a pre-programmed browser launcher, but also a Windows Lock key:

Moving on to the right, we can spot the Scroll Lock key, that also features a dedicated LED:

On the upper side of the numeric pad, CHERRY has placed the volume control, along with a button for easy launch of “Calculator” application:

A nice, chromed CHERRY logo is available right above the arrow keys:

There is enough space left between the arrow keys and the rest, in order to allow easy actuation; on some laptops, the keycaps of the arrow keys are half the size of these, which could lead to accidental keypresses:

A look on the side of the keyboard does reveal how slim it is (15mm height):

Unlike keyboards meant for gaming purposes, CHERRY has equipped the KC 6000 Slim with a regular, white USB cable that lacks braiding:

A Closer Look Part III

The bottom layer of the product is made of white plastic and features a central sticker:

In order to avoid the keyboard slipping on the surface we will use it on, CHERRY has included small rubber feet (8 in total):

The previously mentioned sticker does show the internal code names, serial number but also the USB power rating:

After connecting the keyboard to a spare USB port, we will be able to check out how the status LEDs do appear when operating:

Conclusive Thoughts

The new KC 6000 Slim keyboard does come with a premium look and is ideal for people that enjoy laptop-style keys, even when working with desktops. The SX CHERRY switches are silent and offer a low-key travel of just about 2.5mm; these are rated for 10 million keypresses so we would recommend the keyboard for productivity work as well.

In order to offer more flexibility, KC 6000 Slim is available in two color variants (silver with white keys and black with black keys), while the keycaps are laser-engraved so you won’t have to worry the keycaps will rub off during regular use.

CHERRY KC 6000 Slim keyboard can be purchased online for about as low as 30.5 Euros.
