CORSAIR GLAIVE RGB PRO Gaming Mouse Review

Mice & Keyboards by stefan @ 2019-05-01

With the addition of the new PMW3391 optical sensor, the GLAIVE RGB PRO is even more precise than before and should suffice for any competitive gamer. In the games we have tried such as Titanfall, AION, CS: GO and StarCraft 2, the mouse has performed admirably and thanks to its comfortable holding shape we haven’t had any issues using it for longer sessions. In terms of productivity and multi-monitor setups, this mouse is quite recommended, thanks to its high-DPI sensor and if the pre-installed thumb grip does not fit your style, you can also use one of the other two, which are provided in the package.

Introduction

At first we would like to thank CORSAIR for offering us their GLAIVE RGB PRO Gaming Mouse for testing and reviewing.

Packaging, A Closer Look Part I

Back in 2017, we have taken a look at the CORSAIR GLAIVE RGB gaming mouse, that was featuring interchangeable thumb grips, the PMW3367 sensor with DPI values up to 16000, an aluminum frame for more durability and multi-segment RGB lighting system. Just recently, the manufacturer has launched the PRO version that is improving over the previous; the new iteration is shipped inside a compact cardboard enclosure, with the updated box art:

On the side, CORSAIR mentions that this particular mouse should fit best “control freak gamers”:

The bottom area of the box does have the regular sticker with the product code name and serial number, but also the box contents listed with drawings:

After unsealing the box, we will find a bit of documentation, the main product but also two more interchangeable thumb grips:

Regarding the docs, we will receive a warranty guide leaflet, a “waste electrical and electronic equipment” leaflet, but also the usual Quick Guide:

The manual is multi-language and is used to explain the main product components:

While the GLAIVE RGB PRO has a similar physical signature as the first version, its shape has been optimized more for better comfort, while the weight has been reduced to just about 115g:

The frontal aluminum scroll wheel does come with a rubber grip in order to ensure accuracy and is joined by two programmable buttons, that are initially mapped for DPI switching:

The DPI step indicator is built into the top area of the chassis and is composed of five different LEDs; nearby, we will get to see an additional addressable LED lighting segment:

A Closer Look Part II

The top area of the GLAIVE PRO chassis does have a rubberized layer; in the back, as with the original GLAIVE we are getting an RGB-enabled CORSAIR logo:

On the left side of the unit, we’ve got the forward/back buttons with a grippy texture, which are easy to access; further down we’ve got the default (interchangeable) thumb grip, that features a separate rubber layer on itself; in the front, we can see a bit of the aluminum layer, but now painted in black (the version with the non-painted aluminum frame is available again as well):

On the opposite side, we’ve got another RGB lighting segment and the panel for resting our ring and pinky fingers; a similar textured rubber layer is also available here:

In the front, we have got visible the rest of the aluminum layer, but also another RGB-enabled segment, which we will show later in action:

The bottom area of the unit does come with large PTFE feet, but also the updated custom PixArt 18000 DPI sensor, that can be customized in increments of 1 DPI. This model uses a custom PMW3391 optical sensor and its minimum configuration value is 100 DPI, that is great for sniping; the optical sensor can track and report the position of the cursor up to 400 inches per second, with an acceleration of up to 50G. Several CORSAIR mice we have reviewed before do sport the same sensor and performed admirably (IronClaw RGB, M65 RGB Elite):

As we have seen with many high-end mice from CORSAIR, the USB cable is braided, for additional durability:

The USB connector does have a refreshed design, as we have seen with other 2019 peripheral models from CORSAIR:

The interchangeable (thumb) side grips have different shapes and sizes in order to fit most user preferences; these are held fixed with magnetic force, in order to install/remove in a couple of seconds:

A Closer Look Part III

Here is how the GLAIVE PRO RGB does look with the side panel removed, but also with the two extra panels installed:

Besides the GLAIVE RGB PRO, CORSAIR has launched two extra mouse pads: the MM350 Premium Anti-Fray cloth one and the MM250 Champion Series one. The model is quite large at about 450mm x 400mm and was optimized for high-performance optical and laser gaming mice; the pad ships inside a medium-sized cardboard enclosure:

Right on the packaging, the manufacturer is listing not only the pad length and width, but also its height:

A small product description is available in multiple languages:

The CORSAIR saying for this particular product is “Level the Playing Field” and we also get some product feedback by a professional gamer:

A portion is reserved for trying out the fabric:

A Closer Look Part IV

Inside the box, we will find the pad, along with the warranty guide leaflet:

The pad features a glide-enhanced woven textile surface, for smooth movements and good control:

In the lower right area, we’ve got a white CORSAIR logo:

The pad features a 5mm height and on the side, we can observe the plush rubber construction:

CORSAIR has made sure to provide an anti-skid rubber base, so the pad won’t slip on the surface:

With these said, let’s plug in the GLAIVE RGB PRO and start testing on the MM250!

As soon as the mouse has been powered up, the LED lighted segments are clearly visible:

The iCUE Interface Part I

Right after connecting the mouse on our test system, it has been identified by iCUE unified software for configuration purposes:

The interface is friendly and contains tons of configuration options on the left side; the mouse has three different views available:

The available programmable buttons can be re-assigned with different functions:

Macro

Text

Media

Launch Application

Timer

The iCUE Interface Part II

Disable button

Profile Switching

Remap A-Z Keys

Remap Num & Symbol Keys

Remap Function Keys

Remap Enhanced Keys:

Remap Numeric Keypad

Remap Modifiers and Lock Keys

Remap Language Keys

Remap Mouse Button

The iCUE Interface Part III

Remap Keystroke

The Lighting Effects area comes with plenty presets we can choose from:

Rainbow

Color Pulse

Color Shift

Static Color

Solid

Gradient

Spiral Rainbow

Rainbow Wave

The iCUE Interface Part IV

Color Wave

Visor

Rain

Type Lighting

Temperature

Static Color

The DPI values can be configured as intended, together with the DPI indicator light:

Inside the Performance tab, we can access options such as Angle snapping or Enhance pointer precision:

It is mandatory to perform a Surface Calibration process right after working with the mouse for the first time, so the sensor will perform optimally:

The Settings main tab does allow the user to choose the Polling rate, adjust the LED brightness but also reset the onboard storage; this is also the area where we can perform firmware updates:

Impressions and Conclusive Thoughts

The top plastic casing does offer a good grip, while the inner aluminum core does reinforce the overall build; despite the inclusion of aluminum as the original iteration, the chassis has been optimized so the weight is less than before. For helping with DPI step tracking and profile switching, we have a dedicated area with five LEDs on the left side and depending on the chosen profile, we can use different lighting schemes.

The GLAIVE RGB PRO mouse can be now found online for about 80 Euros, while the MM250 can be had for about 19.7 Euros.

Pros:

-comfortable design and good grip

-updated optical sensor

-interchangeable thumb grips

-a ton of configuration options via iCUE

-affordable price for the features offered

-light construction

Cons:

-none
