CORSAIR IRONCLAW RGB WIRELESS Gaming Mouse Review

Mice & Keyboards by stefan @ 2019-05-10

The wireless feature addition to the IRONCLAW RGB series is nice to have, especially thanks to the SLIPSTREAM technology that allows very low latencies, so you will not see differences versus wired mode. The included 1000mAh rechargeable Li-Po battery allows usage up to 16 hours from a single charge on WiFi, with all RGB segments turned on; if we go in Power Saving mode, the LED lighting turns off, but we will benefit from much more usage time. The extra battery brings the weight up to 133 grams, which is still manageable and thanks to its large footprint people with larger hands will have no issues using with a comfortable palm grip.

Packaging, A Closer Look Part I

GLAIVE RGB PRO is not the only mouse launched recently by CORSAIR; the IRONCLAW has received a refresh with wireless capabilities, more buttons and modified thumb programmable buttons. Wireless comes with the SLIPSTREAM technology, for sub-1ms latency, we have the PMW3391 native 18000 DPI sensor but also Bluetooth connectivity options.

The product is shipped inside a compact cardboard enclosure, along with its bundle; right on the front we can spot the iCUE compatibility icon, along with the SLIPSTREAM tech logo:

The same “Win without wires” saying as on the HARPOON RGB WIRELESS is available with the IRONCLAW RGB WIRELESS:

A side photo of the product is available as well:

On the bottom, we can see the product code name, its serial number, but also the box contents via drawings:

The main product highlights can be viewed on the back, in multiple languages:

As documentation, we will receive the Warranty Guide, the User Manual, a Safety and Compliance Information leaflet, but also a WEEE leaflet:

The guide presents the main product components:

Along with the mouse, we will receive an USB charge/data cable, an USB adapter but also the wireless transceiver:

A Closer Look Part II

IRONCLAW RGB WIRELESS was designed as the original for people with larger hands and for palm grips; the top area of the chassis does feature a rubber coating, while the contoured shape keeps the mouse comfortable even during longer gaming sessions:

The large, rubberized scroll wheel is accompanied by the profile up/down buttons:

In the back, we have the CORSAIR RGB-enabled logo:

The left side panel shows three extra buttons; near the left click button, the CORSAIR has included the DPI up/down buttons:

Over the forward/backward buttons that have been enlarged, we have the Option button:

The right side does feature an additional rubber layer, as with the original IRONCLAW RGB:

The frontal area of the mouse chassis does show another RGB-enabled segment, but also a portion of the aluminum core, painted dark grey:

The bottom area of the mouse is equipped with large, non-symmetric PTFE feet, but also the same PMW3391 PixArt sensor lens:

A Closer Look Part III

A small switch can be spotted here as well, that allows switching between the Bluetooth low-latency (about as low as 7.5ms) and the 2.4GHz SLIPSTREAM WIRELESS connection, with IFS (Intelligent Frequency Shift or hopping):

The USB adapter does allow the user to place the WiFi dongle closer to the mouse, by using the supplied cable as well:

Besides the laser-etched inscriptions, the dongle does also come with the SLIPSTREAM logo and is very compact as well:

As we have seen with other high-end peripherals in the past, the USB cable is braided for additional durability, while the connectors do have the new design layout:

Before getting the mouse in the testing phase, we made sure to charge the internal battery:

The mouse does feature three separate, customizable RGB segments:

-front zone

-scroll zone

-logo zone

On the left side we do also have the multi-purpose LED indicator, which is set to describe various battery states:

iCUE GUI Part I

The IRONCLAW RGB WIRELESS mouse has been detected by our test system right away via iCUE and some firmware updates were necessary to be performed before first use; the mouse pictogram will appear in the Home portion of the screen:

Thanks to iCUE, we have many options available for configuration on the left side of the GUI; the mouse can be checked out for configuration from two different angles:

The programmable buttons can be mapped with a ton of functions:

Impressions and Conclusive Thoughts

The mouse has also some extra programmable buttons available, which can be mapped with the iCUE unified software; RGB lighting is configurable as well and can be synced with other compatible CORSAIR products in order to obtain interesting effects.

The customized PixArt sensor is very precise after performing the mandatory surface calibration utility, while the profiles can be saved onto the internal mouse memory for usage on other systems without drivers, software or additional setup.

The mouse is available online for about 79 Euros.

-the latest high-performance CORSAIR gaming sensor

-large footprint and comfortable chassis for palm grips and large hands

-plenty of buttons for customization

-RGB on three different segments

-plenty of flexibility thanks to the iCUE unified software

-onboard memory for saving profiles
