CORSAIR HS35 Stereo Gaming Headset Review

Others by stefan @ 2019-07-30

Given the fact that we are dealing with a much lighter construction and thanks to the memory foam fabric padded cups, the HS35 offers more comfort than the HS50 during longer gaming sessions, the only concern being that it is not as durable because of the plastic build. In terms of sound quality, the headset comes with the same custom-tuned 50mm drivers found with the higher-priced modes from the same series which are able to provide punchy bass but also good mids and highs.

Introduction

At first we would like to thank CORSAIR for offering us their HS35 Stereo Gaming Headset for testing and reviewing.

Packaging, A Closer Look Part I

Not long ago, we have taken a look at a really affordable headset from SteelSeries, the Arctis 1; now it’s CORSAIR’s time to present its most affordable HS-series product, which is the HS35 and can be picked up in three different flavors: CARBON, BLUE, RED, GREEN. The product is shipped inside a medium-sized cardboard enclosure, with the usual color scheme and right on the top area we can learn its compatibility with a wide range of devices (PC/mobile/Xbox One/PS4/Switch), due to its analog Stereo nature. The bottom right corner also signals the Discord certification:

On one of the box sides, we will get to see the “Never miss a beat” saying:

The compatibility details are further described on the bottom area, together with the box contents; here we can spot some stickers as well, with the internal product name and its serial number:

The main HS35 highlights are described on the back, together with its technical specifications:

After removing the top packaging (cardboard) layer, we will see that the headset is fully protected by a custom molded plastic layer:

Regarding the documentation, we will receive the WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) leaflet, a Warranty Guide but also an “Important Safety Information” leaflet:

The newly released HS35 at 250g is much lighter versus the HS50 (at 331 grams), which is also Stereo-only thanks to the usage of more plastic elements on the chassis:

On the outside of each earcup we do not longer have an aluminum grill, but a plastic layer, that holds the CORSAIR logo in the middle:

A Closer Look Part II

The 50mm drivers are covered by memory foam that features a fabric coating; it offers great comfort while you play or listen to different multimedia content and we prefer it over the faux leather on the HS50:

On the left cup we will find a small rubber cover, that hides the removable microphone port:

In the back, on the same cup, we will find the Volume control, but also a Microphone Mute button:

Soft, thick padding is available on the inside of the headband; again, we have found this type of design more comfortable than the one on the HS50:

If needed, we can extend the headband so it will fit heads of all sizes and shapes; this particular procedure will also expose the aluminum inner layer, used here for additional durability purposes:

On the inside of the headband we will also find markings representing the channel names:

A Closer Look Part III

The removable microphone is fully adjustable thanks to its flexible cable and its type is unidirectional noise cancelling, with a frequency response between 100 Hz and 10 kHz:

On the top area of the headband, we will find a debossed CORSAIR logo:

The supplied Stereo cable is made of rubber and does not feature braiding; its length is 1.1m and ends up with a 4-pole 3.5mm jack to be used with combo ports (as many laptops do have, smartphones, consoles etc…):

If the headset is needed to be used with regular PC soundcards, CORSAIR has supplied the necessary adapter as well:

Impressions and Conclusive Thoughts

Given the fact that we are dealing with a much lighter construction and thanks to the memory foam fabric padded cups, the HS35 offers more comfort than the HS50 during longer gaming sessions, the only concern being that it is not as durable because of the plastic build. In terms of sound quality, the headset comes with the same custom-tuned 50mm drivers found with the higher-priced modes from the same series which are able to provide punchy bass but also good mids and highs.

The removable microphone can also provide great clarity for Discord/Skype or other applications where you can hold conferences; given the analog Stereo nature of the headset, it is compatible along a wide range of devices, but keep in mind that the sound signature can modify quite a bit, depending on the quality of the sound source.

Pros:

-light and comfortable, even better than HS50

-50mm custom drivers we have seen before with the more expensive SKUs

-removable microphone with great quality, ideal for conferences

-affordable

Cons:

-the plastic construction may not be as durable as the one found with higher priced models

The CORSAIR HS35 Stereo Gaming Headset can be found online for as low as 44 Euros.
