CORSAIR HS60 PRO SURROUND Gaming Headset Review

Others by stefan @ 2019-11-05

After going through the simple iCUE setup, we started listening to multiple podcasts, YouTube music clips, watched an action movie but also played quite a bit of Need for Speed 2015: thanks to the 50mm neodymium drivers, the sound quality is great, while the bass does not seem to distort even at higher volume levels. We really enjoyed how the engines were sounding in NFS and if you do enable the Bass Boost profile the immersion is even better. After wearing the headset for over one hour, we have seen the benefits of the increased comfort over the regular HS60, so this is not only marketing talk.

Product Specifications:

Packaging, A Closer Look Part I

The product is shipped inside a medium-sized cardboard enclosure, with the usual CORSAIR yellow/black box art; right from the frontal area, we will get to see a list of compatible products, but also the fact that the device is iCUE compatible and Discord certified:

Another view of the product is available on the side, that highlights the interfaces, now on a black background:

The opposite area does show one of the manufacturers’ well-known saying “Never Miss a Beat”:

The bottom layer does show the compatibility requirements, along with the box contents and product serial number:

On the back, we will get to see the product main features along with the technical specifications, in multiple languages:

After removing the top packaging layer, we will get to see that the headset is further kept secure inside a black plastic mold, together with its bundle:

The supplied documentation is composed from the WEEE leaflet, the Warranty Guide but also the small product manual:

The supplied hardware bundle is carefully packaged in separate plastic bags:

A Closer Look Part II

The HS60 PRO is supplied with an USB sound card, that helps providing 7.1 surround sound on computers:

The frontal area of the sound card does hold a single combo audio jack:

On the bottom of the card we will find the serial number along with other modifiers:

We are also offered a microphone windscreen, for eliminating noises such as breathing:

The unidirectional microphone is removable, adjustable and features a frequency response between 100Hz and 10kHz, with a sensitivity of -40 dB:

The main thing you will notice when comparing directly with the HS60 will be the increased thickness of the memory foam padding but also a smoother leatherette cover; the yellow accents look very interesting on the black surfaces:

The exterior of the cups does feature a black mesh with a central CORSAIR logo; this is surrounded by a yellow frame that highlights the entire assembly:

The left cup comes with the jack for plugging the detachable microphone; this interface is provided with a small rubber cover, in order to avoid accumulation of dust inside the port:

A Closer Look Part III

The same cup does hold the Mic mute button, but also the Volume rocker:

Each cup does hold a 50mm neodymium driver, with a frequency response between 20Hz and 20kHz and a sensitivity of 111 dB; the listed impedance is 32 Ohms @ 1kHz:

The cups are held in place by aluminum yokes, that also increase the overall headset durability; we can also adjust the headband, as needed:

The headband is padded with memory foam as well and covered by a yellow-stitched leatherette:

The included microphone can be installed and removed if not needed, in a couple of seconds:

The top area of the headband does feature and additional CORSAIR logo:

As we have seen with many high-end peripherals, the audio cable is braided for additional durability (HS60 did not feature a braided cable):

After connecting the Stereo cable to the supplied sound card, we did plug the assembly to the test computer and started the listening sessions:

CORSAIR iCUE

Thanks to the included USB sound card, iCUE was able to detect the product right away and enabled it for configuration purposes:

The dedicated interface for the HS60 PRO SURROUND is really simple, permitting the user to switch between the 7.1 Virtual Surround output and Stereo modes, but we can also work with the EQ:

The available EQ presets are:

-Pure Direct

-Movie Theater

-FPS Competition

-Clear Chat

-Bass Boost

Pure Direct

Movie Theater

FPS Competition

Clear Chat

Bass Boost

EQ settings can be configured with our own preferences as well:

The Settings area of H60 PRO does allow the user to enable/disable the voice prompts or change the device color from the GUI:

Impressions and Conclusive Thoughts

After going through the simple iCUE setup, we started listening to multiple podcasts, YouTube music clips, watched an action movie but also played quite a bit of Need for Speed 2015: thanks to the 50mm neodymium drivers, the sound quality is great, while the bass does not seem to distort even at higher volume levels. We really enjoyed how the engines were sounding in NFS and if you do enable the Bass Boost profile the immersion is even better. After wearing the headset for over one hour, we have seen the benefits of the increased comfort over the regular HS60, so this is not only marketing talk.

After testing the microphone in Skype conferences, we are happy with its overall quality and thanks to its analog jack interface we can plug it separately to other devices as well.

The HS60 PRO SURROUND headset is priced competitively at about 63 Euros.

Pros:

-increased comfort due to thicker memory foam padding

-large 50mm neodymium drivers that are ideal for rendering low frequencies without distortion

-removable microphone

-included sound card with combo analog jack that can be used with other devices as well

-compatibility with iCUE for modifying EQ settings and switching between 7.1 and Stereo modes

-compatibility with a large range of sound sources, given its analog/USB interfaces

Cons:

-none
