Dream Machines DM4 EVO Gaming Mouse Review

Mice & Keyboards by stefan @ 2020-01-22

After adjusting the DM4 EVO with our own preferences, we fired up Mass Effect: Andromeda, Beyond: Two Souls, Borderlands 3 and CounterStrike: Global Offensive: the PixArt 3389 sensor did track reliably at all times without any extra acceleration and thanks to the textured plastic chassis, the overall grip is pretty good. We did use the mouse with a claw grip and found the lateral buttons easy accessible; the same HUANO buttons as on the DM5 Blink are pleasant to actuate and are also quite reliable.

Introduction

At first we would like to thank Dream Machines for offering a sample of their DM4 EVO Gaming Mouse for testing and reviewing.

Product Features, Specifications

Product Features:

-Proven PixArt 3389 sensor that is able to deliver surgical precision and great speed. Never again to be beaten by anyone. Acceleration - Excluded. Why? Acceleration is a great choice for office workers whose mice have the task of moving from the center of the screen to its brim as soon as possible. As has already been mentioned - a great thing. But not for players-players require precision. You cannot be uncertain about how far your cursor can move. This uncertainty is a matter of “life and death” in games.

-DM4 EVO, thanks to the use of the PixArt 3389 sensor, provides a range of DPI up to 16,000! As a result, even the most demanding players will find the perfect settings that will allow them to achieve the highest scores while playing. Highest precision with just one click! In addition, we have also used two other technologies to make sure that the game will be even more enjoyable. Prediction - Also has been turned off. Like acceleration, this is a nice thing for people whose activity is associated with using the mouse ends in Paint. But if you're a player, you want even the slightest left or right movement to be visible on the screen. Smoothing - Almost off. This is another one of the facilities designed to equalize the motion of the sensor and hide all delays. Of course, in the case of DM5, the delays are negligible, close to zero, and that's why we do not need smoothing that could distract the players. Simply put - the only movement you will observe is the movement that only You make!

-There is nothing worse than a stuck click. Many standard mice, in addition to the very weak sensor, have even worse buttons which often jam and after two months are not suitable for anything. That's why we've chosen the best Huano buttons on the market that have a lifespan of 20 million clicks! What does this mean in practice? Your DM5 buttons will always be ready for operation for several thousand hours. Finish the limitations, put on reliability.

-A Perfect Distance to the Highest Comfort - "We know how important it is to have the LOD be at an optimum level, which is why we guarantee our players ~ 1.8 mm. Low LOD will allow for smooth movement of the DM5 Blink mouse without unwanted movements, which could undermine the chance of that perfect headshot!

-The Weight is Ideal for Rodents - "Every gaming mouse must have the right parameters, the best sensor that ensures precision and speed of reaction, special buttons that withstand thousands of hours of intense gameplay, as well as the right shape and weight." For this reason, the DM4 EVO weighs only 97 grams to provide the best comfort during the game.

-The DM4 EVO also has a shoelace cable loved by everyone, extremely flexible, and virtually undetectable while playing. It's the perfect combination of all the best in a wireless mouse and wired mouse.

-RGB lighting provides a perfect aesthetic experience… thanks to the ability to configure up to 16 million colors! Naturally, for all people who do not like bright colors, it is possible to set a more subdued color thanks to our software and a dedicated button can turn all lighting off in a matter of seconds!

Packaging, A Closer Look Part I

In this article we will take a look at another gaming mouse from Dream Machines, the DM4 EVO that shares a lot of technical specifications with the previously reviewed DM5 Blink, but comes with a completely different chassis design.

The product was shipped inside a compact cardboard enclosure, which highlights the DM4 EVO design:

On the opposite side, Dream Machines has listed the main features of the mouse; here we will also note that the product was designed with the help of the Test-Gear.pl publication:

The inside contents are quite simple to describe: we have received a documentation leaflet, while the mouse was held inside a transparent plastic mold:

The hardware bundle consists of a separate set of PTFE feet:

The manual describes the installation steps but also addresses product maintenance:

Let’s take a closer look at the DM4 EVO:

The mouse does feature an all-black color scheme and uses textured plastic instead of a rubberized coating; usually, the textured plastic comes with a better resistance to wear and does not pick up lint, skin oils as much as rubber:

A Closer Look Contd.

In the front, we’ve got HUANO blue switches for the left/right buttons with a durability of 20 million clicks; the scroll wheel however does come with a durability of 3 million clicks. The scroll wheel comes with rubber coating on the sides, while the central area is an opaque ring that is RGB enabled; nearby we do also have two programmable buttons, that are mapped initially with DPI +/- functions:

In the back, we’ve got a Dream Machines logo, RGB-enabled as well!

The left side panel comes with a different plastic finish and two programmable buttons; the said buttons are easy accessible by our thumb finger:

The right side was only designed for resting our pinkie finger, since we are talking about a mouse designed for righties:

On the bottom area of the mouse, we will be able to spot the central PixArt 3389 optical sensor lens, an On/Off button for the RGB lighting system, the power rating, but also the product serial number. In the corners we do have the PTFE feet, while the whole area is surrounded by RGB LEDs:

The signature feature of the Dream Machines mice is the inclusion of the shoelace cable, which is very, very flexible and it really feels like you would be using a wireless mouse:

The USB cable ends up with a standard USB connector (no particular customization is present here):

The Software GUI Part I

The DM4 EVO mouse comes with a standalone configuration utility that allows extra configuration such as button mapping, DPI steps customization, RGB lighting modification, work with some mouse parameters but also adjust the polling rate:

Regarding the button functions, we can select from plenty of presets:

DPI

Multimedia

DPI Lock

We also have a Macro Editor that opens up in a new window and allows setting up delays as well:

The Software GUI Part II

Next, we could remind of the profile selector:

The defined profiles can be exported to a separate file, imported or renamed:

Each DPI step is configurable and we can also select only some steps to be used:

The Lighting area does allow the user to change the current lighting preset, together with some other options such as speed and direction:

Here is the list of presets we can choose from:

The list of mouse parameters such as Sensitivity or Scrolling Speed is next:

Finally, we can adjust the USB polling rate:

RGB Elements

After connecting the mouse to a spare USB port, all the RGB-enabled segments will light up:

Impressions and Conclusive Thoughts

After adjusting the DM4 EVO with our own preferences, we fired up Mass Effect: Andromeda, Beyund: Two Souls, Borderlands 3 and CounterStrike: Global Offensive: the PixArt 3389 sensor did track reliably at all times without any extra acceleration and thanks to the textured plastic chassis, the overall grip is pretty good. We did use the mouse with a claw grip and found the lateral buttons easy accessible; the same HUANO buttons as on the DM5 Blink are pleasant to actuate and are also quite reliable.

The application shipped with the product is not unified as with other renown manufacturers but does its job just fine; all options can be accessed from the main GUI, the only option that opens up in a separate area being the Macro Editor. We have plenty of RGB lighting presets available as well, but they are not as configurable as we have seen with iCUE, Synapse or SS Engine.

Its chassis is a bit heavier versus the DM5 Blink at about 97 grams without the cable, but is still won’t cause any comfort issues during longer gaming sessions. One other benefit of the latest Dream Machines mice is that they use „shoelace” cable, that is one of the most flexible we have seen so far.

This particular budget mouse can be pre-ordered for about 44.5 Euros and will be available from February of 2020.
