The Toshiba P300 series of HDDs was designed for use in desktop PCs such as workstations, AIOs but also gaming PCs; the higher capacity models were also thought for usage in external enclosures, thanks to the low noise versus other 7200RPM drives (4TB and 6TB versions are 5400RPM only). For a long time, 3.5’’ HDDs were susceptible to damages during transport from one location to another, but the P300 series comes with ramp loading technology meaning the drive slider does not make contact with the platters in order to risk wear or data loss.
Both 4TB and 6TB models are offered as bulk only, so our 4TB sample has arrived in a sealed, simple Moisture Barrier bag; the bag is accompanied by a sticker that fills us in with some details:
After removing the drive from its packaging, we will get to see some more details; the top cover makes visible the drive loading mechanism screws, along with the hole for pressure equalization at different altitudes; the central area comes with a sticker with even more details:
Here we will note the drive RPM and total buffer size, the drive code name, revision, serial number, power rating, firmware, manufacturing date but also some supported standard logos:
On the sides of the drive, we will note some additional mounting holes:
In the frontal area of the drive, the manufacturer has fitted two more barcodes:
In the back of the unit, we do have the gold-plated SATA Data and Power connectors:
On the bottom, we will find the usual drive motor contacts, along with the small board with electronic components (cache, controller etc…):
