Other by stefan @ 2020-06-12

The Blaze B32 offers a sleek design and can be easily attached to our keychain or bag. Depending on the user needs, it can be purchased with capacities of up to 256GB and transferring large files to it does not take forever. For monitoring the drive activity, we do also get a red LED in the back of the drive’s chassis and thanks to its dimensions, it won’t obstruct the nearby USB port.

Packaging, A Closer Look

Quite recently, Silicon Power has refreshed its USB Flash Drive series with new models; one of the models we will feature in this review and is the Blaze B32. The product is advertised with USB 3.1 Gen1 support and can be purchased with capacities from 16GB and up to 256GB.

The drive is shipped inside a really simple packaging, composed of transparent plastic and cardboard; on the frontal area, the manufacturer does list the supported USB bus (backwards compatible with older versions) but also the drive capacity (we have received a 64GB sample):

In the back, we will get to see a short product description, in multiple languages, the list of supported operating systems, the power rating, some information regarding the Silicon Power service centers but also the product serial numbers:

The Blaze B32 drive does feature a shiny white plastic casing, with the manufacturer logo on top, along with the capacity of the product:

In the middle of the frame, we do have a dark blue accent, which also doubles as a keyhole:

On the back, we will spot a similar design, minus the other details:

The USB connector is protected by a plastic cover, in the same white color:

The said connector features a lip in the well-known USB 3.0 standard color:

The drive is also equipped with a status LED, which lights up in the back of the chassis, as soon as it gets plugged into a spare USB port:

Test Setup and Test Results

The testbench was composed from the following hardware:

CPU: Intel I5 9700K Retail

CPU Cooler: Deepcool Captain 240 EX RGB AIO

Motherboard: Gigabyte Z370 AORUS Ultra Gaming

RAM: Patriot Memory Viper RGB Series DDR4

Video: KFA2 GeForce GTX 1060 OC 6GB

Power Supply: Cooler Master 850W

SSD: OCZ Vector 150

Case: Cooler Master ATCS 840

Here is the total storage space reported by Windows OS; the drive comes formatted FAT32 by default:

The drive also contains the small utility which helps registering the product to Silicon Power:

To determine the flash drive read speeds, the HD Tune v5 utility was used:

Summary Graph (Read Performance)

To measure the real life performance, we have used the Total Commander application to copy to the flash drive and from the flash drive the same file and recorded the transfer speeds, after they have stabilized.
