Packaging, A Closer Look Part I

In this review we will concentrate upon one of the most recent products launched by CORSAIR and to be more exact the MM700 RGB Extended Cloth Gaming mouse pad. The RGB naming is not there for nothing! The pad comes with dynamic 360 degree three-zone RGB lighting, controllable by the well-known iCUE software, which is non-intrusive and looks really cool, especially when you have it paired with other CORSAIR iCUE compatible items as well.

Considering that this is a fairly large pad at about 930mm x 400mm, the box it comes in is quite large and does sport the newer CORSAIR boxart:

On one of the box sides, we will note the CORSAIR’s “Level the Playing Field” saying, but also a small window through which we can check out the material of the pad:

By flipping the box on another side, we will note some more details, such as the pad dimensions (Extended XL) but also the internal contents:

The product main features are also listed here:

A closer look at the description of the pad interfaces will show that CORSAIR recommends only low-powered devices to be connected to the integrated USB hub:

After unsealing the box, we will note that the contents are protected well with extra cardboard material inside:

The user will receive a Quick Installation Guide, the USB cable, a Warranty Guide but also the MM700 RGB pad with internal cardboard protection but also transparent plastic film in the plastic areas:

A Closer Look Part II

The manual does show how the USB hub should be used, but also how the RGB lighting segments were designed to operate:

The included USB cable gets its share of extra protection as well:

The end which plugs to the USB hub has a Type-C interface:

The other end which goes to the computer/laptop has a Type-A interface for more compatibility:

The pad does have a clean look without fancy graphics, and comes in an all-black design; the surface is a glide-enhanced textile woven, for low-friction:

There are two separate segments available for RGB programming on the edge of the pad, one on the left side of the USB enclosure and one on the right, as shown in the photo. The third segment is the CORSAIR logo on the USB hub:

In the bottom left corner, we will see a brand-new CORSAIR logo; the 4mm-thick plush rubber construction allows smoothing out uneven surfaces on the desktop area as well:

A closer look at the edges does show how the RGB area is stitched to the fabric:

The USB hub is quite small and includes an USB Type-A port in the front, ideal for connecting the dongles of USB mice:

A Closer Look Part III

On the right side there is another USB Type-A port, for connecting the headset dongle or other low-powered devices:

In the back of the enclosure, we have the data/power USB Type-C port but also a small button for cycling between predefined RGB presets without using the iCUE software:

On the pad base, we do have anti-slip rubber for keeping the mouse pad securely in place, during more intense gaming sessions:

Here is a closer look at the base as well:

On the bottom side of the USB hub, we will learn about the product name, its internal code, but also the power rating and the serial number:

After plugging the pad in a spare port of our test machine, we could note the RGB effects, which look quite awesome!

CORSAIR iCUE Software Part I

The MM700 RGB pad was immediately recognized by iCUE in order to allow further configuration:

The main section of the setup does only have a Lighting Effects sub-menu available, since this device does not include extra keys ????

The lighting effects can be defined separately for the three zones:

-Logo Zone

-Right Zone

-Left Zone

As you can see from the following screenshot, we have enabled Rainbow Wave for all three zones:

We can disable the lighting for the desired segments as well:

Here are the LED lighting effects we can choose from:

Depending on the chosen effect, we will have different other configuration options available:

Color Shift

Color Pulse

Color Wave

Static Color

CORSAIR iCUE Software Part II

Gradient

Solid

Spiral Rainbow

Rainbow

Visor

Rain

Type Lighting

Temperature

The Settings area of iCUE wil allow performing firmware updates to the MM700 RGB:

Conclusive Thoughts

The MM700 RGB Extended Cloth Gaming Mouse Pad from CORSAIR does sport ideal dimensions for fitting both your mouse and keyboard (and even more!), while sporting enhanced functionality thanks to the included USB hub but also eye candy via the RGB lighting. RGB effects will integrate with the other CORSAIR devices via iCUE and if needed you can disable as well RGB segments from the three available ones.

In our testing with the DARK CORE RGB PRO SE, the mouse did move smoothly on the surface, while the sensor has performed flawlessly while gaming in Far Cry 5, The Medium but also in RAGE 2.

No possibility to install iCUE for the moment? No problem since CORSAIR has you covered via the push-button on the hub, which allows switching between twelve onboard profiles. While iCUE runs though, the button will be disabled.

The MM700 Extended Cloth Gaming Pad is available for about 69.99 Euros including taxes.

Let’s wrap this up by including Pros and Cons!

Pros:

-large size for comfortably placing your keyboard and your mouse; with this arrangement some people won’t feel the need of using keyboard wrist rests anymore!

-configurable RGB lighting via iCUE

-RGB can function as standalone thanks to the included button on the USB hub

-conveniently placed USB hub for powering low powered devices such as headsets, dongles and so on

-4mm-thick rubber construction for smoothing out uneven desktop surfaces
