Silicon Power Blast Plug BP81 Earphones Review

Others by stefan @ 2021-07-16

After effortlessly pairing the BP81 to our S21 Samsung smartphone, we went ahead and listened to multiple videoclips, but also some podcasts. The voices can be heard loud and clear, mids are decent but the earphones do fall a bit short on the lows; the bass is not as well represented as on recently TWS models from Creative or Razer, but those are in a completely different price segment as well. We have tested the microphone quality as well while doing some test calls in Skype, and the quality of the audio is manageable…we think that the average quality of audio is also due to lack of HD audio codec support.

Introduction

We would like to thank at first Silicon Power for supplying their Blast Plug BP81 Earphones for testing and reviewing.

Packaging, A Closer Look

Believe it or not, but Silicon Power company is also exploring new market segments such as portable audio gadgets area. One of the focus products in this market are TWS earphones and the manufacturer has ready models from the Blast Plug series (BP75, BP80, BP81, BP82). The one we are going to review in this article is the BP81, which can be used for about 3 hours from a single charge to listen to music and about four hours for taking calls. A charging case is also included which allows up to five recharges of the earphones, useful when we are traveling.

The product is shipped inside a compact cardboard enclosure with a top plastic transparent window; here the potential customer will be able to see how the earphones do look like, along with the charging case, without the need of unsealing the box:

On the side of the box, Silicon Power is advertising the multiple charging of the earphones inside the case:

The opposite area adverts a 5-day standby time, along with a total of 1 hour charging time inside the dedicated case:

The technical specifications of the Blast Plug BP81 are available on the back, together with the full address of Silicon Power service centers and product serial numbers:

Besides the User Manual, as a bundle we will also receive two semi-transparent plastic envelopes with goodies inside:

The manual instructs the user on how to use the charging station, how to perform pairing, but also how to use the buttons:

Two extra sets of ear tips are provided to fit all ear shapes:

The provided USB cable will help with recharging the portable case:

The barrel-type charging case comes with a two-color scheme, but also the SP logo on top; a rubber handle can be seen on the right, used for ejecting the internal tray:

A Closer Look Contd.

On the side with the charging tray, we can see the USB port, but also a central button:

After the button is pressed, we will see the LED lights operating, which signal the current case charge status:

Once the case is ejected (it is held in with magnetic force), we can see the compartments where the earphones will fit:

The contacts for charging are gold-plated and the compartments are magnetized as well. For easy guidance, we see notes of the L/R channels as well:

The earphones are made of plastic and quite light at about 7.9g each:

On the side of the chassis we can observe the microphone port as well:

Each earphone has on the back two buttons (one with a marking named MFB) and one without. MFB button can be used for Play/Pause, for taking phone calls, for enabling the Voice Assistant but also for turning the earphones on or off. The other button can be used for working with Volume controls or for jumping between tracks. The middle area is dedicated for a LED which signals the status:

On the back of each earphone we will note the charging ports:

By removing the stock (medium-sized) ear tips, we will expose the driver (Silicon Power did not mention any details about its characteristics):

Right after placing the earphones inside the case, they will start charging:

Impressions and Conclusive Thoughts

After effortlessly pairing the BP81 to our S21 Samsung smartphone, we went ahead and listened to multiple videoclips, but also some podcasts. The voices can be heard loud and clear, mids are decent but the earphones do fall a bit short on the lows; the bass is not as well represented as on recently TWS models from Creative or Razer, but those are in a completely different price segment as well. We have tested the microphone quality as well while doing some test calls in Skype, and the quality of the audio is manageable…we think that the average quality of audio is also due to lack of HD audio codec support.

The BP81 comes with IPX5 certification and from our tests we could note around two hours and 15 minutes of use from a single battery charge, which is decent considering that it is not healthy to wear such gadgets for more in a single session. The earphones can be used in mono mode as well and a full charge can be done in about an hour.

Ready to find out about the price? The BP81 can be found online for as low as 19.3 Euros in some stores, which is quite a deciding factor if you are not very pretentious and do not want to spend out a lot.
