CORSAIR SABRE RGB PRO WIRELESS CHAMPION SERIES Gaming Mouse Review

Mice & Keyboards by stefan @ 2021-10-04

After configuring the DPI steps, buttons and polling rate to our own liking, we fired up Marvel’s Avengers, AION, Rogue Company and the remastered Quake. The low weight of only 79g, easily accessible programmable buttons and comfortable shape do transform the SABRE RGB PRO WIRELESS in a very pleasant experience. The high-end sensor is quite overkill for most situations and we do get near-cable latency thanks to the SLIPSTREAM WIRELESS connectivity.

Introduction

At first we would like to thank CORSAIR for offering us their SABRE RGB PRO WIRELESS CHAMPION SERIES Gaming Mouse for testing and reviewing.

Packaging, A Closer Look Part I

Not long ago, we have reviewed the wired version of the SABRE RGB series, the PRO model, which featured a high-end sensor, hyper-pooling up to 8000Hz, zero-gap left-right click buttons, a comfortable non-slip non-rubberized shape but also a paracord cable. Since we are dealing with a mouse series designed for the competitive scene, CORSAIR did not stand still and just outed the wireless version, which takes the best features from the former and adds a few extras!

Here we have the SABRE RGB PRO WIRELESS, which comes in a very compact cardboard enclosure, following the design lines of the other gaming-based peripherals from CORSAIR:

On the side of the box, we will note the “CONTROL FREAK” saying:

A view of the left side of the mouse is available on the opposite area:

CORSAIR has also listed the box contents on the bottom; here we will also note a sticker with the product internal code name and serial number:

The main highlights of the SABRE RGB PRO WIRELESS are available in the back, in multiple languages:

In the box, we will find the usual documentation, which includes the Safety Information and Warranty Guide leaflet, but also the User’s Guide:

The Guide does explain the main product components and how to use the different connection options:

The mouse is packed together with its wireless dongle, while the USB cable is placed on the back:

The wireless dongle features CORSAIR’s SLIPSTREAM WIRELESS technology for achieving a very low latency, so you won’t be actually able to see a difference versus using the mouse in wired mode. We do also appreciate the small size of the adapter, which does not block any ports in the vicinity:

A Closer Look Part II

The 1.8m cable does come with an USB-A interface for the computer and connects with an USB-C one to the mouse; as you can see from the photo, custom designs of the connectors are used:

For an unknown reason, the cable offered with this mouse is not paracord type, but a regular rubberized model, which is more rigid:

The SABRE RGB PRO WIRELESS bothers the design from its older brother, which is excellent in our book; there are no rubber-coated areas which usually wear out faster, but we are getting a textured plastic finishing that offers plenty of grip. The configurable RGB segment is only the logo one and does not come with an RGB-enabled scroll wheel as on the non-wireless model:

In the front we have the zero-gap spring-loaded buttons with a rating of 50 million actuations (Omron is the manufacturer), while the scroll wheel is rubberized and silent when operated:

On the left side, we will note a piano-black frame but also two conveniently-placed programmable buttons; the three DPI indicator LEDs in the frontal area are gone with the wireless model:

Here is a closer look at the curved back, which houses the RGB-enabled CORSAIR logo:

On the right side, we will note a similar design, minus the programmable buttons:

The frontal area has the same characteristics as with the previous iterations, but now we are getting an USB-C port (removable cable):

The bottom area is much richer in terms of additional buttons, the only two items with identical design being the placement of the sensor lens and the PTFE feet. Speaking of the sensor, now we are getting an upgraded CORSAIR Marksman optical model (PixArt PAW3393), which can track up to 26000DPI and offer a polling rate up to 2000Hz. 26K is insane in terms of accuracy and can be configured in steps of 1DPI via the iCUE software; while the 2000Hz polling rate can be seen as a downgrade, we think that this helps with the battery life when in wireless mode and most people won’t even notice the difference between 2000 and 8000Hz polling rate in real-life. The lower switch does allow the user to choose between the wireless and Bluetooth interfaces, but also turn off the mouse:

A small compartment is also provided for the wireless dongle:

A Closer Look Part III

The mouse is equipped with a dedicated profile selector and a RGB LED indicator helps us in order to know which profile we are currently using:

After turning on the mouse, we will note that the RGB-enabled logo will start operating:

The DPI selector LED has been moved on the top and is now RGB enabled:

CORSAIR iCUE Software Part I

Right after we have connected the SABRE RGB PRO WIRELESS to our test machine, it was shown in iCUE for configuration purposes:

The dedicated GUI area comes with multiple configuration options on the left, while three different views of the mouse can be accessed as well:

The Key Assignments menu does allow programming for all six available buttons:

Keystroke

Language Keys

Mouse

Keyboard

Text sequence

Media buttons

Launch Application

CORSAIR iCUE Software Part II

Disable button

Profile switching

Macro

The Hardware Key Assignments can be allocated and saved to the device to function even when iCUE is not operating:

Keystroke

Language Keys

Mouse

Keyboard

Text sequence

Media buttons

CORSAIR iCUE Software Part III

Macro

The Lighting Effects menu are plenty and categorized as Presets, Custom, Lighting Link:

Watercolor

Rainbow

Pulse

Shift

Watercolor Spectrum

Static Color

Solid

CORSAIR iCUE Software Part IV

Gradient

Here is the list of the Lighting Link effects:

Hardware lighting effects are available as well:

Rainbow

Color Pulse

Color Shift

Static Color

In the DPI area, we are able to configure our own DPI steps, but also choose the step color, for an easier identification:

Surface calibration can be performed as well, but during the process, the USB cable must be connected to the mouse:

Some extra device settings are available as well, such as Polling Rate selection, on-the-fly DPI adjustments, battery indicator, sleep mode and more!

Impressions and Conclusive Thoughts

After configuring the DPI steps, buttons and polling rate to our own liking, we fired up Marvel’s Avengers, AION, Rogue Company and the remastered Quake. The low weight of only 79g, easily accessible programmable buttons and comfortable shape do transform the SABRE RGB PRO WIRELESS in a very pleasant experience. The high-end sensor is quite overkill for most situations and we do get near-cable latency thanks to the SLIPSTREAM WIRELESS connectivity.

The mouse comes with three onboard profiles where we can save our preferences and these can be cycled via the dedicated button underneath; nearby, we do also have the compartment for storing the dongle while on-the-go, so it would be nearly impossible to lose it. iCUE programming offers the ability to configure the DPI levels with 1DPI increments, while the RGB lighting can be easily synced with the rest of compatible peripherals.

In terms of battery life, we noted about 58 hours with the LED lighting turned completely off, so it is quite impressive; if you also have a mouse mat with an USB hub, you can always plug in for a recharge and continue the gaming session as usual.
