After a very long time, we have received another interesting set of true wireless earbuds from 1MORE, sporting a catchy name, ColorBuds v2. The new set comes with an integrated Qualcomm chipset which also enables Bluetooth 5.2 but also aptX Adaptive and AAC codecs, the SoundID sound curve customization from Sonarworks, 7mm dynamic drivers, ANC and wireless charging. One big improvement is that the egg-shaped charging case does also offer wireless charging so no need to use any cable if you have a compatible pad around!

 

The product has arrived inside a small cardboard enclosure, which shows a photo of the earbuds but also highlights some of the main features:

 

 

 

On the side, we will note an authenticity stamp but also logos of the supported technologies:

The first setup steps are written on the transparent plastic top layer, after removing the cardboard cover:

 

 

 

 

The earbuds are placed directly into the charging case and separately we do have some extra bundle:

The manual comes with instructions on how to work with the earbuds but also how to pair them with different devices or use the charging case:

 

 

 

Three different sets of eartips are present inside a sealed plastic bag:

 

 

 

The charging cable is USB Type-C on the case side and USB Type-A on the charger/PC side:

 

 

 

 

The charging case is very compact and all-black, with a subtle 1MORE logo on top:

 

 

 

The frontal area, where the case opens, we do also have a charge status LED:

On the bottom, the manufactured has placed a small rubber foot, so the assembly won’t slip on the surface:

 

 

 

Right after opening up the charging case, the LED indicator will show up and we will be able to take a look at the placement of the ColorBuds 2; before the first use, the buds do not make contact with the charging case because of some inserted plastic film, in order to avoid accidental discharge while being stored before sale:

 

 

 

After removing the buds from the charging case, we will note the compartments inside, along with the gold-plated pins; the central button must be pressed while the buds are installed to initialize pairing with another device. While inserted into the case, the buds will only charge and will stay turned off; these will turn on only when lifted from the case and will pair between themselves as well:

 

 

 

The ColorBuds 2 come with a comfortable shape which offers quite a snug fit when installed correctly:

 

 

 

The exterior of the buds sports a touch interface, for achieving different actions (can be configured further from the mobile application); a 1MORE logo is placed here, but also a small voice microphone (left small hole):

 

 

 

In the area with the electrical contacts, the ColorBuds 2 are also equipped with an infrared sensor, so it will know when they are being worn. The feature it is used for is named Smart Playback and it will immediately stop playing music as soon as the buds are removed from your ears:

 

 

 

The ColorBuds 2 are equipped with 7mm Dynamic Drivers, with good representation of high and middle frequencies:

 

 

 

 

The buds are equipped with LEDs of their own, which are also doubled by pickup microphones to help with ANC feature:

 

 

 

The integrated LEDs will show the current pair status but also the charging status:

 

 

 

After installing 1MORE Music application, if the earbuds have not been already paired, we will receive this message:

 

 

Pairing the 1MORE ColorBuds 2 is an easy process to follow:

 

 

For a more accurate representation, inside the application we will be asked which color of the product we do own:

 

 

The main interface does show individual charging status (left earbud, right earbud, charging case), the possibility to switch between the listening modes, configure Smart Playback and more!

 

 

ANC playback is meant to isolate the outside noise to obtain clear audio in noisy environments such as when commuting:

 

 

Pass-through is exactly the opposite, permitting outside noise to get in, this way allowing us to discuss with other people without removing the earbuds. This mode is named “attention mode” with other manufacturers:

 

 

Smart Playback can be configured with different functionalities:

The set does not use a regular EQ for configuring the sound settings, but SoundID:

 

 

We can immediately create a new profile:

 

 

The sound test will be done on a sample track we will choose from the next screen:

 

 

The chosen track will play on a loop and during this time we will be able to select two different audio settings, but also “No Difference” if we do not hear any actual differences between mode A and B:

 

 

After passing though all the steps, the new sound profile will be created:

The 1MORE ColorBuds 2 come with quite a bit of customization options thanks to the dedicated mobile application and instead of opting for a manually customizable EQ, the manufacturer has gone with a more automated solution via SoundID. The paring process is very easy and noted that the range is quite good as well! After listening to some videoclips on YouTube and some podcasts, we did note a clear representation of highs and mids, but do not expect booming bass as with much more expensive models (Hammerhead TWS Pro).

 

The noise cancellation capability is good for the price range, but we were not very impressed by the pass-through mode, where perceived sounds from the outside are muffled. The large touch surface on the earbuds permits performing the desired actions with ease and we can easily assign other functions for double-tap and tree times tap as well (play/pause, previous/next track, Vol -/+, Voice Control).

 

The 1MORE ColorBuds 2 also come with good battery life, so you could expect up to eight hours of use with ANC on, while the charging case can add a total play time of about 24 hours. The case supports wireless Qi charging which is great and by fast charging the earbuds for 15 minutes, we will get no less than 2 hours of play time.
