be quiet! Pure Loop 240mm AIO Review

CPU Cooling by stefan @ 2022-01-17

Pure Loop 240mm is built from high-quality materials, is easy to install thanks to the provided instructions and provides an innovative pump design for eliminating noise and vibrations inside the case. While this version of the Pure Loop is indicated as recommended for i3/i5 processors from Intel, it could handle the power-hungry i7-12700K CPU as well, by keeping the temperatures under TjMAX, while the noise levels remained at low levels due to the use of two Pure Wings 2 120mm fans.

Introduction

At first, we would like to thank be quiet! for sending us a sample of their Pure Loop 240mm AIO for testing and reviewing.

Packaging, A Closer Look Part I

In this article we will concentrate our attention upon a mainstream AIO cooler from be quiet! and to be more exact the Pure Loop 240mm version, which should fit most enclosures. While this cooler was tested by other publications on the previous sockets, we will go ahead and see how it performs on the LGA1700, populated by an i7-12700K processor from Intel.

Pure Loop 240mm did not come with LGA1700 compatibility from scratch, be quiet! did include this mounting kit as a separate product.

On the side of the box, we will notice a small description regarding the company but also the full list of specifications:

An Internet resource for more details is available on the opposite side:

The back side of the box does include the main product highlights, described with product photos but also the product code name and its serial number:

The LGA1700 mounting kit does feature the items for both air and water cooling products from be quiet!:

The inside contents are carefully packaged, in order to avoid damages during transit:

The main components of the product are the two fans, the accessories box, a bottle with liquid but also the radiator/pump/plate for completing the solution:

The User Manual is accompanied by a “Disposal of Old Electrical & Electronic Equipment” leaflet:

For installation instructions we can check the manual, but we get info only for accessories included with the original box. For LGA1700 socket, be quiet! has prepared a YouTube video:

Besides the retention mechanisms for AMD/Intel sockets, we will also receive three black cable ties, screws for mounting the fans onto the radiator but also for installing the radiator onto the case and two other adapters (for connecting the pump, LED array and fans to the system):

A Closer Look Part II

The Intel and AMD retention mechanisms are separately packaged, in order not to mix it by mistake; a tube with thermally conducted paste is also included:

Intel Kit

AMD Kit

Thermal Compound

Unlike many other manufacturers, be quiet! is offering a coolant bottle to do a refill when necessary via the easily accessible port on the radiator:

The radiator has dimensions of 277 x 120 x 27 (H x W x D) and is fully made of aluminum, with a matte black paint finish; the side reveals a Pure Loop logo:

Here is the area of the radiator where the fans will be attached; the port for filling up with liquid is located on the left:

The opposite side is pretty much identical in terms of layout, but it will be used for mounting to the case:

be quiet! comes with a unique pump design (doubly decoupled pump), which is located on the upper area of the tubing, but not on the CPU plate. This particular design does help to alleviate vibrations, which are usually transmitted to the rest of the motherboard when using the usual design:

A Closer Look Part III

The tubing is quite flexible and is fully braided for additional durability:

The pump will be powered by a 3-pin connector:

Since the pump is gone from the copper (nickel-plated) CPU plate, we will find there a simplified design; under the aluminum cover with a middle be quiet! logo, we will find an array of LEDs which help delivering a nice light effect all around it:

The plate gets fixed to the retention mechanism with two screws, one on each side:

The LEDs must be powered on as well via a separate 3-pin connector (only two are used):

The nickel-plated copper base is very smooth and looks like a mirror; it is protected against scratches with a thin plastic film, which must be removed before first use:

The cooler uses two Pure Wings 120mm PWM fans which can deliver high air pressure:

The fans are rated 12V – 0.30A with a maximum speed of 2000RPM:

Here is a closer look at the PWM connector as well:

A Closer Look Part IV

The installation is easy to perform, quite straight-forward; first we will have to use the supplied screws and install them onto the LGA1700 backplate; rubber grommets will be attached on the other side so they won’t fall off during the install procedure:

The backplate will be then attached to the motherboard:

Spacers will be installed on each screw and will be secured with a screwdriver:

Next, we will install the two metallic brackets and secure them with the last four screws:

The fans can be installed with ease onto the radiator thanks to the supplied long screws…keep in mind to position the cabling properly before the installation inside the case:

The set of 8 small screws will be used for attaching the radiator onto the case:

Lastly, we will apply thermal compound onto the CPU, attach the plate with the two screws, use the SATA Power adapter to plug in both pump and LED assembly but also the 4-pin adapter for connecting both fans to the same CPU_FAN header on the motherboard:

The lighting looks quite nice while the system is operating!

Test Setup and Test Results

Test Setup:

CPU: Intel i7-12700K @ Stock

CPU Cooler: currently tested one

Motherboard: BIOSTAR Z690GTA

RAM: Neo Forza Faye 2x16GB DDR4600

Video: XFX Radeon RX 5700XT Ultra THICC III

Power Supply: Cooler Master 850W

SSD: Silicon Power US70 1TB PCIe 4.0

Case: Cooler Master ATCS 840

We have performed the IDLE-Full Load temperature test with the help of the AIDA64 Stress Test module, while recording the temperatures in detail via HWINFO64 utility. The ambient temperature during testing was kept at a steady 23 degrees Celsius and the performance profile in our Windows 11 Pro installation was set at default (Balanced).

The results are as follows:

Even if we are talking about a 240mm radiator AIO, the Pure Loop 240 could handle the power-hungry i7-12700K temperatures at bay without getting into throttling, not seeing values over 88 degrees Celsius in Full Load. The package power has even spiked up to 170W and the fans were spinning near their maximum speed and to be more exact 1912 RPM (curve was adjusted manually via the BIOSTAR mobo UEFI interface).

What we found interesting was that the fans are quite silent even during this operation mode (Full Load), since we have only recorded about 46.7dBA at max speed. In IDLE the fans are inaudible at about 33.2dBA and with a rotational speed of 1050. The temperatures recorded are very low as well, since the overall package power was recorded to be only 3W!

Conclusive Thoughts

Pure Loop 240mm is built from high-quality materials, is easy to install thanks to the provided instructions and provides an innovative pump design for eliminating noise and vibrations inside the case. While this version of the Pure Loop is indicated as recommended for i3/i5 processors from Intel, it could handle the power-hungry i7-12700K CPU as well, by keeping the temperatures under TjMAX, while the noise levels remained at low levels due to the use of two Pure Wings 2 120mm fans.

be quiet! is advertising the Pure Loop as a long-lasting product and in order to reinforce that statement, they have also included a small bottle with coolant, which can be used to refill the needed quantity via the easily accessible radiator port.

Given the 240mm radiator size, it should be the ideal form factor that fits in most cases; the product, as reviewed can be found online for about 80 Euros!
