Neo Forza 32GB (2x16GB) 2933MHz C21 DDR4 SODIMM Kit Review

Memory by stefan @ 2022-03-20

Working with locked BIOSes and low power systems is a real challenge when trying memory kits with higher speeds. Neo Forza has thought in advance about this particular aspect and provided tons of profiles preloaded to the DIMMs in order to avoid compatibility issues and we could enjoy quite a speed boost on the DL20N6 system, in both productivity applications but also in 3D, while keeping the same 10W power envelope. Could we mention again that the system is fanless which makes it more interesting?

Introduction

At first, we would like to thank Neo Forza for sending us a sample of their 32GB (2x16GB) 2933MHz C21 DDR4 SODIMM Kit for testing and reviewing.

Packaging, A Closer Look

After testing the latest DL20N6 barebone from Shuttle, we noted that improvements can still be made by trying out a memory kit which maxes out the supported speed by the Intel Pentium N6005 4-core power-efficient SKU. The 2933MHz was listed as supported by both Intel and Shuttle website for this particular miniPC and since such memory kits are not exactly easy to find on the market, we asked Neo Forza to validate and produce one for us in order to try out and review.

Validation was successfully completed and the memory kit has arrived inside an OEM plastic packaging, carefully protecting the brand-new product:

The kit is composed from two low-power SODIMM DDR4 modules:

A closer look does reveal eight memory chips on the frontal area of the black PCB, but also a sticker which highlights the product code name, specifications, but also its serial number:

On the back, we will find another eight memory chips:

The chips are branded Goldkey and feature the GE8082933HH code name:

Test Setup and Extra Info

As mentioned before the testing took place on the Shuttle XPC slim Barebone DL20N6, featuring an Intel Pentium N6005 4-core SKU with a total package power of 10W. For storage we have used the same Silicon Power A60 512GB NVMe SSD; upon first try, the system did not boot but after flashing the latest official BIOS for this machine, the system was operating in parameters!

Here are the running details, picked up by CPU-Z:

Neo Forza has prepared multiple JEDEC profiles, for compatibility purposes; or system did choose to go with JEDEC #13:

Via AIDA64, we can learn that the memory chips were manufactured by SK Hynix, with an operating voltage of 1.2V, while the pre-programmed timings are much more versus the ones we have seen via CPU-Z:

Conclusive Thoughts

Working with locked BIOSes and low power systems is a real challenge when trying memory kits with higher speeds. Neo Forza has thought in advance about this particular aspect and provided tons of profiles preloaded to the DIMMs in order to avoid compatibility issues and we could enjoy quite a speed boost on the DL20N6 system, in both productivity applications but also in 3D, while keeping the same 10W power envelope. Could we mention again that the system is fanless which makes it more interesting?

As they say from the specifications, the NMSO416E82-2933EA10 2933 C21 modules are really plug-and-play, no extra tinkering is needed via additional applications and during testing we haven’t encountered any stability issues.

With these said, we do fully recommend this particular memory kit to people which want to squeeze even the last bit of performance out of this miniPC.
