AQIRYS LYRA Wired/Wireless Headset Review

Others by stefan @ 2022-10-21

Even if the LYRA headset is not specifically tuned for gamers, the sound signature seems to aim towards that direction with the preset EQ settings. The we noted a boomy bass which is also accompanied by extra vibration thanks to the dedicated 30mm drivers, but it is not over-the-top as we have seen with other products sporting haptic feedback. The voices are rendered clearly so it is good for multimedia consumption, while the volume can be considered high even before reaching 50%!

Introduction

At first, we would like to thank AQIRYS for offering us a sample of their LYRA Wired/Wireless Headset for testing and reviewing.

Product Features, Specifications

Product Features:

3D STEREO IMMERSIVE SOUND

Enjoy an immersive audio experience with realistic 3D positioning sound effects reflecting the

playback scene and the sound source, amplified by unbelievable vibration effects delivered through 30 mm dedicated drivers, and full compatibility with Dolby Atmos, Windows Sonic, and even Tempest 3D Audio for your next-gen PlayStation 5 games. Furthermore, excellent sound quality and output even at low volume are possible due to the integrated auto adjustable Dynamic Equalizer for listening to music, playing games, or multimedia playback.

DUAL MICROPHONE

With LYRA, communication is twofold. First, the external microphone is an excellent choice for a clear and natural voice when gaming, and in addition, the included sponge windscreen will help reduce the pressure over the mic membrane, avoiding unwanted voice distortion.

Alternatively, you can unplug the external microphone from the earcup and make LYRA your daily commuting companion, heading out with an urban and relaxed look while managing your phone calls on the go using the internal secondary microphone.

TWO WIRELESS MODES, PLUS WIRED

Bluetooth 5.0, Ultra-Low-Latency Wireless, and Wired connectivity are offered out-of-the-box, meaning LYRA can be connected virtually to any device.

The included and versatile wireless USB receiver can connect LYRA to any PC, Mac, console (Xbox not supported), or Smart TV. Thus, you can enhance your gaming and multimedia experience with a better audio quality provided by a stable, ultra-low latency connection.

Moreover, a built-in 1000mAh high-capacity lithium battery lasts up to 27 hours of gaming and multimedia playback in various backlight-vibration headset configurations.

BEAUTIFUL ERGONOMICS

Soundproof ear-cups accompany LYRA’s soft-cushioned and adjustable headband with a snug fit that enhances the comfort and vibration effects when enabled. In addition, all headset functions are quickly and directly accessible via on-ear and on-mic controls. Lastly, the foldable design and the included carrying case make it easy and convenient to carry the headset in your handbag or backpack.

TIMELESS DESIGN

An aesthetically pleasing, discreet, clean, and rounded appearance, with a gentle and subtle touch of RGB backlight; intuitive and long-lasting, sometimes a good design is as little design as possible. With LYRA, you will not get “an impenetrable confusion of forms, colors, and noises” but a headset that you’ll love using daily. Packaging, A Closer Look Part I

Another interesting product has reached our test labs from the Romanian gaming brand AQIRYS. This time we are talking about a product which is not oriented only at gamers, but can be used throughout a variety of devices, while at home or while on-the-go. The LYRA wired/wireless headset is available with multiple color options (pink, black, white) and comes with dual microphones (internal for outside use, external for office use) but also an additional set of 30mm drivers for increasing vibration effects.

Our sample has been shipped inside a medium-sized cardboard enclosure, with the usual AQIRYS box art; right from the front, the manufacturer has included small icons which represent the main product highlights, but we will also learn that the product is compatible with the latest Playstation consoles, PC and mobile platforms.

Some more details can be spotted on the side, together with in-depth technical specifications:

The opposite side reminds us that the headset is fully compatible with Dolby Atmos, Windows Sonic and Tempest 3D AudioTech, but also the fact that it features an automatically adjustable EQ:

The box does also include the list of contents (as drawings), but also the product internal code name and serial number:

One important aspect, highlighted by AQIRYS on the top area is that we need to fully-charge the headset before first use:

On the back, AQIRYS has placed a detailed photo of the product, with explanations regarding the main components:

One more interesting aspect is that we are reminded of the headset autonomy, depending on the usage type:

After removing the top cover, we will note a flyer sitting on top, but also some other documents and a set of stickers:

A Closer Look Part II

The set of stickers is cool, including one of each type:

Inside the Quick Start Guide, we will find in-depth explanations regarding the usage modes, the button functions but also how to charge the battery, how to activate the vibration effects and more!

The hardware bundle of the AQIRYS LYRA is offered in a separate re-sealable plastic bag, while the headset itself is accompanied by a carry box:

Let’s take a closer look at the accessories:

First, we will note a non-braided USB to microUSB cable for charging purposes:

Next, we do have a TRRS to 2x TRS cable for connecting analog sources, acting as an extension cable, braided for additional durability:

A Closer Look Part III

A TRRS-to-TRRS cable is also included, for analog audio sources, also braided:

The detachable microphone features a rubberized body, and the flexibility does allow for custom positioning; the microphone interfaces with the headset via a jack plug and features a multidirectional pattern, while the frequency response is between 100Hz and 10KHz:

A closer look at the microphone orifices does also show an integrated Mute button:

The WiFi dongle comes with a multifunctional button which can start pairing mode with the headset or enter in standby mode (will disconnect to the headset in case you need it connected with a Bluetooth device):

The LED in the back will show the current operation mode of the dongle:

For the detachable microphone, we will also get a pop filter:

The hard case does incorporate a rubberized top layer for a better grip/appearance, but also a subtle AQIRYS logo in the middle:

The logo is present on the other side as well:

Let’s open the box out and see what we do have inside!

LYRA can be easily folded to occupy a smaller footprint while travelling:

A Closer Look Part IV

The matte black plastic chassis is accompanied by chromed accents; it weights only 260 grams to keep the comfort level elevated:

On the exterior area of each of the cups we will find a middle AQIRYS logo but also a frame, both which are RGB enabled:

On the left cup, we will note the status LED, the On/Off button which also acts as an Answer/End Call and Play/Pause, the Volume + button which acts as a Next button as well, while the Volume – button acts as a Previous:

Near the microUSB port used for charging purposes, we will note the switch for turning the Vibration effect On or Off:

Moving further, we will note the 3.5mm audio jack port, but also the internal microphone port:

Finally, we do have the external microphone port with a special shape, in order not to permit installation in the wrong way:

The right cup does come with the same design, minus the interfaces:

The soft memory foam of the ear pads is covered in leatherette and offers a comfortable fit; each cup does house the main 40mm driver with a frequency response between 20Hz and 20KHz, a sensitivity of 108 +/- 3 dB but also an impedance of 32 ohms. The vibration 30mm driver helps with additional immersion:

The metallic frame of the headband does help with adjustment but also for reinforcing the whole chassis:

The metallic hinges help with getting the headset in a compact manner, for it to fit the carry case:

A Closer Look Part V

The serial number and channel names are also marked on the inside:

Soft padding with leatherette is also present on the headband:

For inside use, the microphone can be attached in a matter of seconds:

Before the first use, as instructed we did leave the headset to charge fully:

The included RGB lighting is subtle, but if you do use the headset outside, you can turn it off completely by pressing both Volume buttons at the same time:

The adapter RGB LED does help knowing which state it is currently in:

Impressions and Conclusive Thoughts

Even if the LYRA headset is not specifically tuned for gamers, the sound signature seems to aim towards that direction with the preset EQ settings. The we noted a boomy bass which is also accompanied by extra vibration thanks to the dedicated 30mm drivers, but it is not over-the-top as we have seen with other products sporting haptic feedback. The voices are rendered clearly so it is good for multimedia consumption, while the volume can be considered high even before reaching 50%!

When using the headset in analog mode, the sound quality will be greatly influenced by the source, while we have found the setup options while using the Bluetooth and wireless easy to operate. Switching between WiFi and BT can be done easily by simply placing the WiFi adapter in standby mode and LYRA will automatically connect again to the last Bluetooth source it has had saved.

In terms of microphone quality, we found the integrated one as decent, but the dedicated one is most likely preferred due to a clearer voice pick-up while in conferences.

Most actions are accompanied by voice prompts, even when closing a call. As expected, the Bluetooth operation renders the highest autonomy at about 27 hours, while the wireless mode can do a maximum of 22 hours, this with vibration and RGB turned off. RGB will bring the autonomy down to 14h in BT mode and we will get about 13h in WiFi mode; in case we do have both vibration and RGB turned on, we can expect about 6 hours in BT mode and 5 hours in Wireless mode.

The LYRA headset is priced competitively at about 74.99 Euros and can be ordered from the AQIRYS Online Shop.
