CHERRY GENTIX 4K Office Mouse Review

Mice & Keyboards by stefan @ 2023-03-19

The 70mm width of the GENTIX 4K needs some time for adjustment, but afterwards the mouse is quite comfortable; the buttons are a bit harder to press versus mice with Kailh mechanical switches such as the T.G.A series from AQIRYS, and the USB cable is not as flexible as we have seen with more recent gaming mice.

Introduction

At first we would like to thank CHERRY for sending out a sample of their GENTIX 4K Office Mouse for testing and reviewing.

Packaging, A Closer Look

CHERRY has updated its GENTIX mouse with a new version, which now includes an updated sensor, suitable for 4K screens as well. The resolution is now selectable in different steps from 800 DPI and up to 3600 DPI to meet all workflow requirements, while lateral buttons have been added as well.

The GENTIX 4K has arrived inside a simple cardboard enclosure, highlighting the 4K aspect on of the sensor in the frontal area:

The side does show a lateral photo of the main product:

The serial numbers are available in the opposite area:

On the back, we will look at the main product highlights, but also the box contents and the system requirements:

Besides the mouse, we will also receive the documentation:

The documentation shows the main GENTIX 4K components, how to enable/disable the lighting system, how to change the DPI but we will also learn of the technical specifications:

The mouse does keep the design elements of the previous model, but now we will see a dedicated central DPI button near the rubberized scroll wheel:

A Closer Look Contd.

The only lighting element is the scroll wheel, in red color. This can be disabled at will, by keeping the DPI button pressed for 3 seconds; on the left button we will note the GENTIX 4K PRECISION inscription, in white color:

On the left side of the mouse, we will find two extra buttons, while the rubber-coated parts ensure a grippy surface and a comfortable rest for the thumb finger:

The back side is streamlined and allows a comfortable position for most hand sizes:

The right side looks the same, minus the programmable buttons:

On the bottom we will note the PTFE feet, but also the central sensor lens, the product serial number, but also the power rating. The sensor allows tracking with 800 / 1200 / 2400 / 3600 DPI via the dedicated button:

The 1.8m USB cable is not braided and includes a customized USB connector at its end:

Conclusive Thoughts

The 70mm width of the GENTIX 4K needs some time for adjustment, but afterwards the mouse is quite comfortable; the buttons are a bit harder to press versus mice with Kailh mechanical switches such as the T.G.A series from AQIRYS, and the USB cable is not as flexible as we have seen with more recent gaming mice. A huge step-up versus the original is the increase in resolution with the upgraded optical sensor and the choice not to include a rubberized top cover, but an abrasion-resistant surface finish will allow the mouse to look as new even after a long usage period.

As an entry level product, the GENTIX 4K is a good offering if used only for regular office work, while the price is very affordable for anyone: just 10.9 Euros!
