XTRFY M8 WIRELESS RETRO Gaming Mouse Review

Mice & Keyboards by stefan @ 2023-04-04

After adjusting the mouse settings with our own preferences, we tried Diablo 4 (Open Beta), Aion, World of Warcraft, Uncharted but also some Starcraft II rounds; the mouse tracks impeccably and feels great thanks to the low height in the front and high precision, while using a claw grip. The low weight is also a huge plus and we were quite impressed that it is even lighter versus some other high-end mice which sport holed designs!

Introduction

At first, we would like to thank Xtrfy for offering a sample of their M8 Wireless Retro Gaming Mouse for testing and reviewing.

Packaging, A Closer Look Part I

Back in 2013, a new computer peripheral company from Sweden has arrived on the market to build pro-level gear for benefitting all gamers. Its name is Xtrfy and at the current moment we can note many headsets, keyboards, mice, and mousepads available on the website from it. The customization is at home when talking Xtrfy, since we can find spare parts for most equipment and we can request special orders from the ground up regarding mice (base, top shell, grip tape, glass skates, assembly) and keyboards (layout, base, switches, base keycaps, add-on keycaps, Tai-Hao rubber keycaps, frame, cable, logo plate, deskpad, wrist rest, carrying case, assembly).

The M8 Wireless has arrived in a small cardboard enclosure, with a simple/clean box art, highlighting the main features of the product:

On the side, we will note the sharp curvature of the mouse in the front, with the button height as low as 4mm to increase the precision:

The main highlights are included on the opposite side as well:

Xtrfy has noted the product code name on a separate sticker, along with the serial numbers:

On the back, we will note the measurements of the M8 Wireless, along with the technical specifications:

After unsealing the box and removing the top cover, we will note that the main product is safely held inside a cardboard mold:

Underneath, we will locate the documentation, along with the hardware bundle:

Inside the Quick-Start Guide, we will find a nice Xtrfy case sticker, along with an extra set of PTFE feet:

A Closer Look Part II

This model does not use PC software, but all settings are done from underneath the chassis, via a switch and a button:

The M8 Wireless comes with the flexible Xtrfy EZcord Pro cable and allows the mouse to be used even when the battery is charging:

The light grey scheme of the braided cable does fit perfectly with the retro look of the mouse:

The red USB connectors do complete the look; these are gold-plated to ensure optimal contact:

An USB-C to USB-A adapter is also offered, to use the wireless USB dongle as far away from the computer, for eliminating interferences:

Under the adapter we will note a rubber layer, to help with stability:

If used with a portable computer, thanks to the small dimensions of the dongle, the nearby USB-A or USB-C port won’t be obstructed:

A Closer Look Part III

The retro color scheme of the M8 Wireless really brings out memories! Xtrfy has ditched RGB lighting, and this would surely help the included 300mA battery life, while keeping a very low weight of 55 grams! The chassis comes in a grey color with two different accents, while the red highlights are immediately noticeable:

The rather abrupt front does allow control with great precision, while the curved design of the edges does help with the ergonomic aspect. The scroll wheel is silent when actuated in both directions, with clear steps, while the Kailh GM 8.0 switches for the left and right buttons have an impressive durability of about 80 million actuations!

On the left side we will note two red buttons (Huano switches) which do help with adjusting the mouse functions and are easily accessible via the thumb:

Since the mouse is symmetric, we will note the same shape on the right side, minus the buttons; an aspect different to all the mice we have reviewed before is hidden under a rubber cover:

Basically, here we do have the mouse charging port which needed to be moved to this location to facilitate the frontal low height:

The back hump of the mouse includes a subtle company logo:

The bottom area includes two white-dyed PTFE feet, the central sensor lens, a switch, and a smaller button; here we will note another color of the chassis as well, black. The M8 Wireless Retro comes equipped with the PixArt PAW3395, which is the latest and the greatest in the industry, with eight pre-defined steps: 400, 800, 1200, 1600, 3200, 4000, 7200, 26000, a maximum acceleration of 50 G, a tracking speed of 650 IPS, while the polling rate can be set as 125, 500 or 1000 Hz:

For adjusting CPI, we only have to place the switch in the respective position and press the button to activate the function. Next, we do have the Polling Rate function and lastly the Debounce Time which can be adjusted at 2ms, 4ms, 8ms or 12ms.

The Lift-Off distance can be switched at either 1mm or 2mm, when having pressed the left, right and lateral buttons together for three seconds; Motion Sync function can be turned on or off by keeping the two laterals buttons pressed, along with the scroll wheel for three seconds. This particular function will ensure that the mouse is sending sensor information to your PC at the same rate is asking for mouse position data:

The LED on the left side will allow the user note the current charge status of the internal battery, but also when activating functions such as lift-off distance or Motion Sync:

Impressions and Conclusive Thoughts

After adjusting the mouse settings with our own preferences, we tried Diablo 4 (Open Beta), Aion, World of Warcraft, Uncharted but also some Starcraft II rounds; the mouse tracks impeccably and feels great thanks to the low height in the front and high precision, while using a claw grip. The low weight is also a huge plus and we were quite impressed that it is even lighter versus some other high-end mice which sport holed designs!

M8 Wireless takes a simple approach by not relying on a specific software, without RGB backlight, but offers ultimate performance thanks to the PixArt 3395 with support for Motion Sync, DPI values up to 26000, Polling Rate up to 1000Hz, while the symmetrical shape is quite comfortable during prolonged use. We were quite surprised that the cable connected on the side does not represent an issue regarding comfort at all, since that area is not touched by the hand in most instances. The provided PTFE feet assist with smooth gliding, while the cut-outs inside the chassis allow for easy removal as soon as these got worn out.

The Retro color palette looks good, with a very nice contrast between red and grey accents. This model is also available to be purchased in black, white, frosty mint or purple colors!

Online, we can find the M8 Wireless Retro for about 99 Euros, which is a good price considering that we are getting a high-end product!
