After checking out the CHERRY B.UNLIMITED 3.0 kit back in 2017, which did sport SX switches and a wireless range of up to 10 meters, it is time to look upon an improved model, the CHERRY STREAM WIRELESS which now comes with a lighter chassis, replaceable batteries which can last up to 36 months and the proprietary SX scissor technology switches which are described as membrane contact switches with elastomer dome and scissor mechanics.

 

The keyboard is offered inside a slim cardboard packaging, showing a photo of the product on the top cover, along with the chosen layout:

 

 

 

On the back, we will note the main product features, box contents and specifications, in multiple languages:

 

 

 

After unsealing the box and lifting the top cover, we will get to see that the keyboard is fully wrapped inside a black paper envelope:

 

 

 

Besides the main product, we will receive the manual, a small leaflet involving warranty, a set of batteries but also the wireless dongle:

 

 

 

The manual is quite large since it is in a multi-language form:

 

 

 

The wireless dongle is compact and will not interfere with the nearby USB devices, when used alongside devices with less available ports such as laptops. The red plastic body along with the CHERRY logo do fall in-line with the company theme colors:

 

 

 

 

The dongle does have the model ID along with the FCC ID laser-etched on the USB connector:

 

 

 

Our sample has arrived with two Energizer Max AA batteries, which are not to be bought on retail channels:

 

 

 

Judging by the codes on the batteries, we concluded that these are non-rechargeable carbon monoxide models:

 

 

 

Versus the older, 2017 B.UNLIMITED 3.0 keyboard, the new design is more refined, but preserves the same textured plastic on the top cover, but also the keys:

 

 

 

The CHERRY STREAM WIRELESS has a full-size layout, but also comes with some extra buttons as well! Compared to the older model, the STREAM WIRELESS keys are more pleasant, easier to be actuated, which is great when using the keyboard for productivity work at home or at the office. The low-profile layout does complete the experience:

 

 

 

The top frame does include dedicated multimedia buttons, ideal when working with different audio/video players; in terms of Volume, we can decrease, increase or mute on-the-fly:

 

 

 

There are some extra dedicated keys in the upper area of the numeric pad, for locking current session, for opening the default browser/a new browser page, for opening the email client and, of course, for opening the Calculator application:

 

 

 

A red STREAM logo is present in the lower area of the bottom frame:

 

 

 

A nice CHERRY logo is also present in the vicinity of the ALT and Windows buttons, to the right of the Spacebar:

 

 

 

The STREAM WIRELESS presents itself with a slim design, a bit angled:

 

 

 

In the front, we won’t find extra interfaces:

 

 

 

A small exception does make the Power On/Off button; the keyboard does have a standby functionality, but if the keyboard won’t be used for a longer period of time (such as when going on a vacation), it is recommended to turn it off via button in order to save battery life:

 

 

 

The bottom area of the chassis is of grey color and features no less than eight rubber feet:

 

 

 

The sticker present here does include the product code name, the serial number, the power rating but also logos of the supported standards:

 

 

 

Kickstands are available as well:

 

 

 

The tip of the kickstands, even if it is made of plastic, comes with a rough texture in order to keep the keyboard steady on the table and avoid slipping:

The main function keys have integrated LEDs and will light up when the keyboard is turned on and establishes connection with the dongle:

 

 

 

The optional downloadable software is quite basic and allows key remapping when used along compatible products; in our case, we will be able to set other functions for the top keys:

 

 

 

When a key is selected, we will be prompted to choose from one of the selectable presets:

 

 

 

 

The STREAM WIRELESS keyboard offers a pleasing typing experience at the office, while keeping the noise at a minimum. It is also great for the financial departments due to the inclusion of the numeric pad, while multimedia functions are easily accessible via the extra buttons. The wireless aspect does add to the ease-of-use aspect, not requiring any extra drivers and if we would like to remap some of the keys, we can download the optional software from CHERRY’s website.

 

The low-profile, CHERRY SX switches have a rating of 20 million actuations, have an actuation force of 45 cN, a pretravel of 1.7mm, while the total travel is set at 2.5mm.

 

The CHERRY STREAM WIRELESS can be found online for about 40.7 Euros, which we think it is a fair value for what we are getting.
