We are going to test something interesting in this article: a 2.5’’ SSD drive from Patriot, carrying the code name of P220. The drive can be purchased with capacities of 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, 1TB or 2TB, each featuring different specifications in terms of read/write speeds, but also different values regarding TBW.
These drives have limited read speeds to about 550MB/s due to the SATA III interface, while the reported writes are valid only till the pseudo-SLC cache is not filled up. For extra compatibility, the drive comes with a 7mm height, but let’s talk in more detail while checking it out!
The Patriot P220 SSD is shipped inside a simple cardboard/plastic packaging, which does show right on the frontal area some of the product highlights as icons, while the drive can be observed right away under the transparent plastic layer:
The main product features are shown on the back as well in multiple languages, along with a product description, Internet resources and addresses of Patriot offices around the world. A separate sticker does show the product code name and serial number:
The P220 drive does feature a plastic chassis in black, with a large sticker on top, which does show the product serial number, the code name and also logos of the supported standards:

The whole chassis does hide a very small PCB, which comes with a controller and two NAND ICs on one side:

The NAND packages carry the code name YMC4G0W3TbG3EA1C0, which we presume that are of QLC type, but with a healthy amount of pSLC cache, as it resulted from our continuous write tests:
