Packaging, A Closer Look

The next microSD card we are going to concentrate on is also manufactured by KIOXIA, can be purchased with capacities ranging from 32GB and up to 512GB and was mainly designed for continuous recording in dash cameras or surveillance cameras; these do incorporate BiCS Flash which is carefully screened in order to reduce the possibility of failed video recordings.

The product is shipped inside a cardboard/plastic simple enclosure, which does show the supported standards of the card right in the frontal area, its capacity, but we will also be able to take a look at the actual product through the transparent plastic layer:

On the back side, we will learn that the microSDXC 512GB card is backed by a 5-year warranty and has quite a few of protection types integrated with it. The user will also find the product internal code name here, along with the serial number:

After removing the cardboard layer, we will get to see the sealed, separate plastic one:

The card is not shipped alone, but with an adapter for increasing compatibility among devices:

The adapter is named “LADP1” and allows using the card inside a SD slot:

As with regular SD cards, we will also get to see a write lock switch:

On the back, the 9 gold-plated contacts are available:

The 512GB version of the EXCERIA HIGH ENDURANCE comes with two tones of green on the top area of its chassis, including the logos of the supported standards, along with the capacity:

On the back, we will note no less than 8 gold-plated contacts:

Test Setup and Test Results

The testbench was composed from the following hardware:

CPU: Intel Core i7-13700K

CPU Cooler: be quiet! Silent Loop 2 360mm AIO

Motherboard: EVGA Z690 CLASSIFIED 2.06 UEFI

RAM: Sabrent Rocket 32GB (2x16GB) 4800MHz DDR5

Video: PowerColor Radeon 5700 8GB

Power Supply: Cooler Master 850W

SSD: Sabrent Rocket Q4 NVMe PCIe 4.0 M.2 2280 2TB

Case: Cooler Master ATCS 840

TheEXCERIA HIGH ENDURANCE 512GB microSDXC Memory Card comes formatted exFAT; we have used a LEXAR UHS-II microSD/microSDXC Card Reader in order to perform the speed tests and formatted it NTFS:

To determine the flash drive read speeds, the HD Tune v5 utility was used:

Summary Graph (Read Performance)

To measure the real life performance, we have used the Total Commander application to copy to the card and from the card the same file and recorded the transfer speeds, when they have stabilized.

Conclusive Thoughts

The EXCERIA HIGH ENDURANCE 512GB does deliver quite a bit in terms of promised performance and paired with durability this type of cards do offer, we can consider we have a winner in our book, also coming with internals from a reputable NAND Flash manufacturer.

Please keep in mind that depending on the SKU you choose, you will receive a different endurance in terms of operating hours while recording FHD or 4K videos. The write speeds do differ as well, the 32GB version having a rating of only 30MB/s, the 64GB and 128GB models offering about 65MB/s, while the 256GB and the 512GB come with the maximum of 85MB/s (in our case, the 512GB model was even able to write with values nearing 87MB/s!).

The cards are Waterproof, X-ray proof, Shock proof, have Overheating/Ignition prevention, but also present ESD immunity.

The 512GB SKU, as tested can be found online for about 97 Euros.
