AQIRYS ALYA Wireless Gaming Headset Review

Others by stefan @ 2023-10-06

The ALYA wireless headset comes with a balanced EQ in terms of frequencies, with clear highs and not over-the-top lows. After watching quite a bit of YouTube clips, TV shows and playing games such as Last Epoch, Uncharted, Quake II Enhanced and Need for Speed Unbound, we did enjoy the overall experience when it comes to the sound signature. What we found interesting is that the EQ does not seem to modify at all when operating ALYA on Bluetooth versus WiFi, so expect the headset to behave exactly the same.

Introduction

At first, we would like to thank AQIRYS for offering us a sample of their ALYA Wireless Gaming Headset for testing and reviewing.

Product Features, Specifications

3D STEREO IMMERSIVE SOUND

Enjoy an immersive audio experience with realistic 3D positioning effects reflecting the playback scene and the sound source, delivered through 50 mm drivers placed inside closed ear-cups to cut out much of the outside noise. Larger driver units produce richer and deeper acoustics than smaller counterparts, bringing you closer to the action to live it at a higher intensity.

TEAMSPEAK CERTIFIED MIC PERFORMANCE

ALYA has passed the TeamSpeak certification process, the number one choice VOIP communication system for Online Gaming, and the de facto voice of esports! You are guaranteed to use natural, crystal clear, esports-grade sound to communicate with your teammates for flawless coordination!

Furthermore, the omnidirectional Mic is detachable, so when matches are over, you can unplug it to enjoy a cleaner and more relaxed look.

TWO WIRELESS MODES + 3.5 MM CONNECTIVITY

Ultra-Low-Latency Wireless, BT, and wired (3.5 mm) connectivity are offered out-of-the-box, meaning ALYA can be connected virtually to any device. In addition, the versatile wireless USB receiver can connect ALYA to any PC, Mac, or console (XBX is not supported). Thus you can enhance your gaming experience with better audio quality, provided by a stable, ultra-low latency connection.

Moreover, the built-in 1000 mAh high-capacity battery can last up to 40 hours of gaming*, and the USB Type-C connector lets you game and charge simultaneously.

PROLONGED COMFORT

ALYA’s breathable and moisture-wicking ear pads are filled with memory foam to ensure prolonged comfort in any gaming environment.

Additionally, the elastic headband follows the head contour to uniformly distribute the headset weight, canceling any pressure points that cause discomfort during extended gaming sessions. A two-step adjusting system provides the perfect fit for every head size.

THE MEOW FACTOR

The expansion pack included with ALYA lets you personalize your headset or match it with your favorite gear using two extra headbands. Boost your no-holds-barred gaming looks and gain the meow factor by attaching the complimentary kitty ears. Together with the static RGB backlit strips, you're definitely set to draw attention.

Packaging, A Closer Look Part I

Another interesting product has been surfaced from AQIRYS lately, an all-around wireless headset supporting WiFi connectivity via the included dongle, Bluetooth but also analog connection. It comes with a removable TeamSpeak certified microphone, a battery which holds up to 40 hours of use on certain conditions and a light chassis to keep comfort levels high during long sessions.

The headset name is ALYA, after a star fusing hydrogen into helium in the constellation of Serpens. It is compatible with a large range of devices such as PC/Mac, consoles and mobile devices.

The product is shipped inside a medium-sized cardboard enclosure, showing on the top cover some of the main product highlights, but also the list of compatible devices:

The features are explained in more detail on the side:

The opposite area does show the features in multiple languages along with the full list of technical specifications:

We will also get the list of box contents, along with some QR codes, the internal code name but also the product serial number:

After removing the top cover, we will note a leaflet thanking us for the purchase:

On the back side of it, we will be informed on the connection options we do have with each and every device. We will also receive a set of stickers and the User’s Manual:

The stickers come with different design, in order to match different preferences and computer setups:

Inside the manual, we do have lots of use cases described:

The ALYA headset is kept secure inside a black plastic mold:

As hardware accessories, we will note two plastic bags but also a handy carry bag:

A Closer Look Part II

The carry bag is offered in a black color, with a large AQIRYS logo in front:

In terms of cables, we will note the 1.5m USB-C charging cable (with USB-A connector facing the power source), a Stereo audio cable (1m in length, TRRS 3.5mm jack plugs), but also a 0.6m break-away audio cable splitter with 2x TRS 3.5mm jack plugs. The microphone is also included here:

Here is a closer look at the cables:

TRS Splitter cable

The microphone comes with a flexible body, offers an omnidirectional pick-up pattern, a frequency response between 100Hz and 10KHz, a sensitivity of -42 +/- 3dB, while the impedance is <= 2200 Ohm; it does also provide nearby noise cancellation:

The rest of the hardware bundle is composed of two red kitty ears, two extra flexible headbands (one pink and one blue), but also the USB WiFi dongle:

The two kitty ears can be easily attached to the plastic headband, since these are made from soft silicone:

A Closer Look Part III

The flexible headbands are soft and will adjust to your heads’ shape; the two ends are made of flexible plastic and do allow two separate mounting positions:

These plastic adapters are not as soft as we have noted with the SteelSeries replaceable headbands and it is a little difficult to remove them, but installation can be performed in a couple of seconds:

The WiFi dongle does come with a black plastic chassis and a small blue LED does signal that the connection is active:

There are no other inscriptions present on the back:

ALYA does incorporate a light chassis made from good quality plastic, for a total of just about 300 grams! It comes with two color options (black and white) and combines different finishing options on the cups(piano black around the cups and textured plastic on the exterior):

On the left cup, we will find the Microphone mute switch, along with the Volume wheel:

Moving on, we will observe the Power button, the Status LED indicator, the 3.5mm Stereo port but also the USB-C charging port:

The same cup does house the microphone port with a custom layout in order not to allow a wrong positioning:

In the frontal area we will note a RGB-enabled segment which will only show a static effect:

The right cup preserves the same design, minus the interfaces:

A Closer Look Part IV

Unlike many headsets we have tested in the past, the headband extends to the lower area of the cup; the headband does allow height adjustment as well:

The earpads are soft and cover the entire ear; these also allow the ear to breathe during longer gaming sessions. These do hide two 50mm drivers with an impedance of 32 Ohm, a frequency response between 20Hz and 20KHz, while the sensitivity is set at 105 +/- 3dB:

The pre-installed flexible headband is offered in a black color:

After carefully removing it, we could install the extra supplied one from the bundle and also chose the secondary mounting position:

The microphone can be attached in a couple of seconds and adjusted with our preference:

The ALYA headset looks very funny with the two kitty ears attached to the top plastic headband:

The integrated RGB segments do only light up in a static way and when not needed we can turn it off by pressing twice fast on the Power button (also conserves battery power):

The status LED will help the user easily identify the current state the headset is in. The headset can be used while it’s charging, displaying a pink LED; the red LED is shown while the headset is charging and it is in an off state:

Impressions and Conclusive Thoughts

The ALYA wireless headset comes with a balanced EQ in terms of frequencies, with clear highs and not over-the-top lows. After watching quite a bit of YouTube clips, TV shows and playing games such as Last Epoch, Uncharted, Quake II Enhanced and Need for Speed Unbound, we did enjoy the overall experience when it comes to the sound signature. What we found interesting is that the EQ does not seem to modify at all when operating ALYA on Bluetooth versus WiFi, so expect the headset to behave exactly the same.

Thanks to the light headset design and the flexible headband, the comfort is top-notch, even after long usage sessions. With the LEDs off and up to half of volume levels, we can expect up to 40 hours of use after a 3 to 4 hour full charge, a benefit being that the headset can be used while charging as well, unlike the Andromeda model.

The removable microphone quality is good, but it does not match the ones found with high-end models such as the Arctis Nova Pro or the CORSAIR HS80. A good thing is that it isolates most of the noise around you, even if ANC is not present.

The AQIRYS bundle is again…impressive! Besides the cabling, we are receiving no less than two headbands but also some kitty ears, which female users might enjoy!

For just about 78 Euros, we do get a mainstream headset with plenty of connectivity options, great battery life and optimal comfort levels.
