AQIRYS LIBERTAS Gaming Keyboard Review

Mice & Keyboards by stefan @ 2024-04-07

Right after starting typing on this keyboard, we noted that it is unusually silent versus many other keyboard models we have tested in the past, thanks to the vibration/noise dampening of the chassis but also the custom switches themselves! The 47 gF force needed for actuation is really pleasant for both gaming and work scenarios, making this keyboard ideal for use in environments where other people are working along with you such as offices or when working from home.

Introduction

At first, we would like to thank AQIRYS for offering us a sample of their LIBERTAS Gaming Keyboard for testing and reviewing.

Product Features, Specifications

Product Features:

#SOLID PRECISION

At your fingertips, you will find precision delivered by factory pre-lubed HaiMu x AQIRYS Silent 5-pin mechanical switches warranting 100 million keystrokes consistent gaming experience. The customized Crystal Yellow version installed in LIBERTAS offers a smooth linear key press and a quiet sound level, having an operating travel of 2 mm and 47 gF actuation force.

#SMOOTH EXPERIENCE

Next to factory pre-lubed switches, LIBERTAS is also rigged with pre-lubed plate-mounted stabilizers to smooth out the typing experience by effectively reducing noise, spring pings, and evening out large-key pressing (like the Spacebar for which you have as option to install a special foam – provided in the package - to better block possible unwanted sounds).

Featuring the new Gasket-Mounted keyboard design, LIBERTAS has an elaborate internal architecture - with a design that features an advanced multi-layer structure, with a switch plate decoupled by large silicone gaskets, a PCB secured between two sound and vibration dampening silicone sheets, and one IXPE foam layer. This design ensures a quiet-as-a-heartbeat gaming experience, with minimal noise and vibration.

On the outside, the resilient lightweight translucid chassis is complemented by 3 color double-shot PBT keycaps that are fadeproof and engineered for durability and improved typing feel and precision.

Inside Bonuses – LIBERTAS also comes with a multi-tool brush so that you can take care of it with all the thoroughness it deserves, a dust cover to protect it and more keycaps to better personalize it!

#FAST ERGONOMICS

LIBERTAS is a keyboard that has a 75% form factor, which strikes the perfect balance between the tight 60% keyboard size and the full-size option. It has 82 keys, including the arrow keys and the function row, but without the numpad. The compact layout favored by e-sports professionals not only saves desk space, but also improves ergonomics during intense gaming sessions by keeping your hands closer together and allowing for much faster mouse movements.

The keyboard also has a 3-way connectivity, which means that you can seamlessly switch between two wireless options (2.4 GHz and BT) and wired (charging) mode. You can connect the keyboard to your PC, Mac, or console, via a detachable USB Type-C braided cable, or via a wireless dongle or Bluetooth. The keyboard has a hefty 8000mA battery, which can last up to 24 hours with the light on, or up to 72 days with the light off.

#ELEMENTAL CUSTOMIZATION

LIBERTAS is not only silent, it is also future-proof. It has a hot-swappable design, with premium Kailh Rainbow switch sockets rated for 6000 cycles, that allows you to replace the switches as many times as you want, with 3-pin and 5-pin models universal compatibility. You can customize your keyboard with 15 complimentary tactile switches, included in the package, or with any other switches of your choice. In addition, LIBERTAS allows you to customize the keycaps and volume knob, the box contains several keycaps of different colors and one volume knob.

LIBERTAS also has a number of multimedia functions that allow you to control your audio, video, and other settings, without leaving the game. You can access these functions by pressing the FN key and the corresponding function keys. Using the on-board memory, you can store your custom settings and preferences, and a 1000 Hz polling rate always ensures a fast and accurate response.

And last, but not least, the intuitive AQIRYS software provides access to advanced configuration options, including per-key illumination customization, etc.

Packaging, A Closer Look Part I

Another interesting product has arrived to our labs from AQIRYS and this time it is a compact gaming keyboard, the LIBERTAS! It does sport a 75% form factor, BT and Wireless capabilities, RGB lighting but also very silent switches, pre-lubed HaiMu x AQIRYS Silent 5-pin mechanical switches with a rating of no less than 100 million actuations.

The product is shipped inside a medium-sized cardboard enclosure, showing a photo of the main product in the middle of the frontal cover, the compatible platforms but also other highlights via small icons on the left:

The side does show two QR codes which redirect to online resources, along with product serial numbers:

The opposite side does list the main product features, in multiple languages:

On the back, we will note explanations on the features, an exploded view of the keyboard to show the multiple layers, the full list of technical specifications, the box contents but also details on the manufacturer and importer:

After removing the top packaging layer, we will take note of another cardboard box, with the “Whisper your moves, dominate the game” saying, referring mostly to the silent aspect of the LIBERTAS:

On one side, the box comes with the usual “All For Gaming” saying:

A large AQIRYS logo is placed on the bottom:

After lifting the top cover, we will note quite a bit of protective foam inside, along with a small leaflet:

The previously mentioned leaflet does include a short explanation regarding how we can connect the keyboard to different devices:

Besides the top foam layer, the keyboard is also surrounded by the same material on the sides:

A Closer Look Part II

Underneath, we will note the bundle:

The User manual is written in English and Romanian and contains the necessary details such as the packing list, connectivity options, backlight control info, shortcuts, battery status and charging, keycap/switch removal and more:

We will receive a multi-tool brush, the USB data/charging cable, a set of stickers, one microfiber cover, a set of complimentary keycaps, a switch puller, a keycap puller, extra foam for silencing Spacebar key, but also a set of customized HaiMu Ocean Blue switches:

The multi-tool brush does also have a secondary keycap puller on its chassis:

The brush is easy to use for removing dust and other debris from the keyboard:

For a more elaborate cleaning, we will use the dedicated tool:

The supplied switch remover is also handy when switching between different models:

AQIRYS does never forget to include a nice set of stickers, sporting different dimensions:

We prefer the metallic keycap puller to the plastic one since with this one there are less chances of scratching the caps on the side during the removal process:

A Closer Look Part III

The Spacebar dampening foam is adhesive and easy to apply:

Unlike other manufacturers, we will receive a microfiber cover, to avoid dust accumulation while the keyboard is not used:

If we would like to further customize the typing feel of our LIBERTAS, we can always install the set of pre-lubed HaiMu Ocean Blue switches; these are silent tactile, have an operating force of 47 gF, a travel of 2 mm, a tactile force of 65 gF and a spring length of 22 mm. These support installation on boards for 5-pin switches:

The bottom of the switches is made of Nylon and we can clearly note here the metallic contact pins:

The top blue stem is POM (Polyoxymethylene):

The complimentary keycaps are available in a separate box:

The same type of protection is employed for these; we will receive a replacement Spacebar key, a different Volume wheel, some F keys, replacement directional keys, another Esc key, but also a replacement Enter and Backspace key:

A Closer Look Part IV

The replacement Spacebar key is in white color, while the bottom is black:

Same goes for the other keys, meaning we will get a black interior:

While the stock Volume wheel has golden accents, the replacement has a dark grey aspect:

The USB cable does come with gold-plated connectors for optimal contact:

The cable is fully braided in order to help with durability:

The LIBERTAS comes with a catchy, rather retro color scheme in terms of keycaps, while the casing is semi-transparent to allow LED light to shine through:

Function keys can access the File Explorer, default Browser, the Calculator but also the Media Player:

The next set comes with the usual multimedia controls:

The volume controls are taken care of F9, F10, F11, while F12 opens up the Email client:

A Closer Look Part V

The Volume wheel is placed in the top right corner:

The Bluetooth can be enabled for 3 different devices and we can switch from one to the other via Fn + 1, 2 or 3; we can switch to Wireless by pressing Fn + 4:

Between the keys on the right side, we do have the status LEDs available:

LIBERTAS does also have a Windows Lock key which can be easily accessed:

For modifying the LED light effects on-the-fly, we can use Fn + Insert for selecting the lighting preset, Right Arrow for selecting the lighting color, Up Arrow for increasing the brightness, Down Arrow for decreasing the brightness, Left Arrow for changing the lighting direction, with DEL key we can turn off the lighting, with Right Control we can change the lighting effect, with Fn + = we can increase the effect speed, with Fn + - we can decrease the lighting effect speed, while with Fn + ESC we can reset the lighting effect:

On the side of the chassis, we will note the AQIRYS logo:

In the front, we won’t note any other interfaces besides the necessary USB port:

By turning the keyboard on the back, we will note the same semi-transparent cover and a large central sticker:

The sticker informs us on the product serial number:

A Closer Look Part VI

A switch is also available for cycling between 2.4Ghz WiFi, Bluetooth or cable interfaces:

The wireless dongle compartment is placed nearby:

LIBERTAS does come with two different kickstands, in order to be able to adjust the keyboard at two different angles:

The keyboard is also equipped with smaller rubber feet as well:

The dongle is compact and will not obstruct the nearby USB ports when used:

After removing the keycaps, we will note the pre-installed HaiMu x AQIRYS Super Silent switches, which do come with a yellow stem. These are rated for 100 million actuations, have a linear switch feedback, a switch travel of 2 – 0.5mm, and a switch force of 47 gF:

A Closer Look Part VII

These are incredibly silent, they will make you think you are typing on a membrane keyboard instead, minus the lag those have, which is really impressive!

In order to achieve such a high level of noise dampening, LIBERTAS is equipped with an internal silencer and anti-vibration silicone pad, an IXPE foam, a secondary silencer and anti-vibration silicone pad but also a silicone gasket mount!

After connecting the keyboard to a spare USB port, the LED lighting will start showing; unlike other keyboards, the light will not shine through the keycaps themselves but the lighting effect flows between the keycaps and via the translucent chassis:

The Software GUI Part I

LIBERTAS comes with a fresh application GUI, which we haven’t seen with other products from AQIRYS.

The application does allow selecting between different profiles, while the main menus are placed on the left. The Light Setting area allows working with different presets:

Plenty of presets are available for configuration purposes:

Depending on the present we choose, we will have different options for customization:

Impressions and Conclusive Thoughts

Right after starting typing on this keyboard, we noted that it is unusually silent versus many other keyboard models we have tested in the past, thanks to the vibration/noise dampening of the chassis but also the custom switches themselves! The 47 gF force needed for actuation is really pleasant for both gaming and work scenarios, making this keyboard ideal for use in environments where other people are working along with you such as offices or when working from home.

Besides writing some articles and browsing the web, we have tried the keyboard in Helldivers 2, Spider-Man Remastered, Need for Speed Unbound and also New World; the keyboard felt very responsive but the keyboard layout might need some time to get used to if you have only worked with TKL or full-sized layouts.

LIBERTAS does support connectivity on three different Bluetooth channels, wireless via the included dongle but also on USB-C; the internal 8000 mAh rechargeable battery which can be topped in about 14 hours can deliver autonomy of about 24 hours with the LEDs on and around 72 hours with LEDs off.

Regarding lighting, AQIRYS has chosen for this model not to have lights shining though the keycaps but only light glow through the switches, something that is also amplified by the translucent nature of the chassis. Under the board, LIBERTAS also comes with a row of RGB LEDs in order to have the frame illuminated as well.

The software utility is easy to understand and configure, offering plenty of presets; the only component which is not up for configuration is the Volume wheel, which can modify the volume in steps of 4 but can also take care of Play/Pause when pressed inwards.

The LIBERTAS is available online for about 99.99 Euros, a good price for such a great keyboard, which is membrane-keyboard like silent, includes durable switches but also a very healthy amount of bundle as well!
