About ADATA:

The Leading Memory Brand with the Most Award-Winning Product Designs

Founded in May, 2001 by Chairman and CEO Mr. Simon Chen, ADATA Technology Co., Ltd. is committed to providing the ultimate memory solutions that enrich customers’ digital life with strong belief in integrity and professionalism. With DRAM modules as its initial product focus, ADATA soon recognized the market’s trend and diversified its product portfolio to include Flash application and data storage solutions. Backed by its technical expertise, state-of-the art manufacturing facilities, and premium customer services, ADATA offers complete memory solutions including DRAM Module, USB Flash Drive, Memory Card, Solid State Drive and Portable Hard Drive; and has quickly risen to become the world’s leading provider of memory modules and Flash application products with a 2nd largest share in DRAM modules and 3rd in Flash Application products (iSupply, May 2010).

ADATA understands that professionalism and innovation drive a company’s competitiveness as well as the value of its products and services in the market. ADATA’s strict execution requires performing at the highest standards as it relates to ID design, purchasing and supply chain management (raw materials), manufacturing processes and quality control and testing. Through constant innovation and development of products that exceed customer expectations, ADATA has won many of the most recognized international awards including the National Silver Award of Excellence in Taiwan, Japan’s G-MARK (Good Design Award), CES Innovations Award in the US and iF Design award and reddot design award in Germany.

A Young Enterprise with Remarkable Growth

Although ADATA started with twenty employees only in 2001, the founder, Mr. Simon Chen and the senior management team have extensive memory-related industry experience in manufacturing and global sales, as well as the passion and energy to instill extraordinary corporate values as the foundation of the company. These values consist of integrity, fairness, honesty, perseverance, ingenuity, harmony, love and innovation. All these factors help contribute to remarkable and consistent year-on-year revenue and profit growth, allowing ADATA to achieve 1 billion sales turnover within the first ten year.

When ADATA first started in 2001, there were only 20 employees. But ADATA was a small company with big dreams. Committed to become a world leading provider in DRAM memory and Flash application products, ADATA soon distinguished itself from the competition by its profession, industry know-how, and eye-catching product design.

Perfection through Non-stop Improvement

Despite its impressive achievement, ADATA is determined to outperform itself. In 2010, ADATA began the process of rebuilding brand, and adopted the hummingbird as its corporate icon and an auxiliary symbol of ADATA’s corporate culture, in order to effectively enhance its competitiveness in the international marketplace as well as to prepare the company for the next decade.
The new logo conveys a more modern design that represents consistency, while retaining the foundation of ADATA’s technical background with the traditional corporate color in blue.

The hummingbird incorporates key design elements that reflect our culture, vision for the future and our commitment to become a global brand. The Hummingbird’s agility suggests that ADATA is highly responsive to market and consumer demands; its swiftness demonstrates leading innovation and productivity in the industry; its exploring nature signifies our determination to pursue all possibilities; and the color and modern design reflects the exciting and dynamic characteristics of ADATA’s brand.

Strong Commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility

Realizing its social responsibility, ADATA takes extra care in the selection of key memory components, complies with stringent manufacturing specifications and quality inspection processes, and has passed the ISO14001 certification on environmental management, as well as the EU Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directive, thus providing stable, compatible and high-performance memory products. This allows ADATA to fulfill its corporate social responsibility (CSR) at a time the company is pursuing rapid growth, putting emphasis on both protecting our earth and sustaining a green enterprise.”

Packaging

Packaging

The S805 USB Flash drive by ADATA takes part from their Nobility series and comes packed inside a little cardboard box with a small transparent plastic window, so we can see how the product does look like in reality, without the need of unsealing the package:

On one of the box sides, we can see this item has won a “reddot design award”, is USB 2.0 certified and is fully compatible with Windows 7:

When looking on the back of the box, we can find more information regarding the product compatibility with USB 2.0 and 1.1 in multiple languages, but also the specifications, where ADATA mentions the data retention is possible up to 10 years and the system requirements:

The box is fully sealed with a plastic transparent film on both ends, which is not very easy to observe from the photo, because of the package color:

Inside the box, we can find the flash drive fixed inside a transparent plastic mold, but also some documentation:

The little piece of paper tells us some information regarding the warranty, customer service, but also the link to the exclusive software bundle:

A Closer Look

A Closer Look

As it could be seen even without opening the package, the S805 is a very nice looking USB Flash Drive; surrounded by a zinc alloy frame, it comes in two different colors and in the center we can find out the ADATA logo along with the model code name:

The opening mechanism is very nice realized and fully protects the USB connector during transport. To reveal the USB connector, we only have to pull a little in the exterior the little black plastic foot:

The drive can be opened and used in two modes, depending how much space we have available on the table:

The carabineer of the S805 can be clipped easily on a key chain or a hand bag as a mobile storage device:

On the back of the drive, we can see the same design, but this time without the logos:

Here is a look inside the drive, when the USB connector is ejected:

Another model code name and the capacity can be seen laser written on the USB connector:

Most of us would expect the USB connector to go all the way through in the USB port, but it does not, it is longer and maintains a respectable place between the port and the body of the drive:

The Tests and Extra Info

The Tests

The test-bench is composed from the ASUS X55SV laptop, the one that I have used for all the Flash Drive tests I have done before and the operating system was Windows 7 x64.

The drive comes completely empty, formatted FAT32:

To determine the flash drive read speeds, I have used the HD Tune 2.55 utility, which is freeware:

To measure the real life performance, I have used the Total Commander application to copy to the flash drive and from the flash drive the same file and recorded the transfer speeds, when they have stabilized.

One of the optional applications you can download is OStoGo, which helps us transfer the Windows 7 kit from the original DVD to the flash drive and install it from there:

Another application that ADATA offers us to download is NIS 2010 OEM, the 60-day trial version:

UFDtoGo is another application that can be downloaded and has the following features:

Madshrimps (c)

The application can be started only if the USB Flash Drive is inserted; after the app is initialized, we can see its interface, with the menu on the left part:

One interesting feature that I have found when checking out this software is that you can use your Flash Drive to lock the computer you are working with, when you are away:

Another interesting feature is that we can password protect the data present on the flash drive:

If the device is lost, we can enter out personal information so the person that finds it would know where to look:

Conclusive Thoughts

Conclusive Thoughts:

The S805 Nobility Flash Drive from ADATA not only delivers both good read/write performances compared with the previously tested items, but also features a sporty look.

Having a carabineer that can be easily clipped on our key chain or a handbag as a mobile storage device is a very useful feature so we won’t lose it and we are able to keep it near us almost at all times.

The model received for testing had a 16GB capacity, but these drives can be found with a capacity ranging between 4GB and 32GB, for large data files storage.

ADATA made this drive especially for sports enthusiasts, who practice Neo Stylism (“a perspective of pursuing nice life style and believing in our own capability”).

The drive tested is priced a little higher than previously tested flash drives, the 16GB version being available for about $53.
