Attention architectural juniors ⚠️ You could be in for a pay increase! 🫰 Why? The UK Living Wage hourly rates have just gone up and if you're working at a RIBA Chartered Practice, they’re required to pay you at least the Living Wage to their staff*. 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄𝘀: UK Living Wage: £12.60 ph (up from £12 ph) London Living Wage: £13.85 ph (up from £13.15 ph) Please note, that the Living Wage is set by the Living Wage Foundation, which differs from the National Minimum Wage established by the UK Government. 💷 --- Whether you are looking for a new role or you're working at a RIBA Chartered Practice, please ensure your new wage reflects the new hourly rates. 📝 If the practice offers you less than the above figures, they are breaching the RIBA Code of Practice Conduct. 🙅♀️ You can always refer back to the RIBA Code of Practice Document - Section 3.6.3 📄 ------ This is another great reminder that overhead costs are increasing, whether it be Living Wage, software licenses, insurance, office rent or utility bills... Yet, many practices are unable to increase their fees. *Living Wage accreditation does not require employers to pay the Living Wage to volunteers or apprentices - it would be up to the company. #Architecture #UKArchitecture #UKArchitect #LivingWage #UKSalaries

400 professionals took part in last week's poll and 44% would like to have a mentor. 👀 To my surprise, it wasn’t just juniors who either don’t have a mentor or would like to have one, but also many more experienced professionals, including Associates, Directors and Practice owners. 📈 Darius Coertse's, Director at Axis Mason comment caught my eye: "...Don’t focus on finding your ‘sensei’, rather focus on building relationships with those around you, young and old, experienced and non-experienced. By allowing working relationships to develop naturally in this manner, you will start to uncover different strengths in people that you can learn from. And maybe in time you will identify a pattern of valuable insight from one or two people who are ‘like a mentor’...." 💡 That made me think about my situation. I don't have a formal mentor, but I do have a handful of professionals I can turn to if I feel stuck, need to bounce around an idea or need advice. 🙃 The beauty of those relationships is that it's a two-way street. If they feel stuck or need a helping hand, I'm there. 🤗 --- There’s some food for thought here, and I think Darius has a valid point. 👏 What do you think? Does the label of "mentor" still work, or should we focus on building relationships with professionals within our network from whom we can learn and also support in return? 👇 #Mentor #PollResults #Architecture #Dubai #UK
