October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.   In conjunction with Pink October, we collaborated with breast cancer organizations and organized a special Pink Day across all our offices to help raise awareness about this disease.   Our teams showed their support by adopting the pink colour throughout our Pink Day on 18 October.   We hope to have contributed to raising awareness about this disease and the importance of regular screening and early diagnosis.   Thank you to all who participated and showed their support for this important cause.   #PinkOctober #BreastCancerAwareness #BGN

Exploring shipping’s view of carbon markets. Our Shipping Director Ozan Turgut took part in Geneva’s Maritime Transport Efficiency Conference (MTEC) which gathered representatives of the shipping and trading industries, as well as technology companies and suppliers of innovative solutions. Speaking in a panel debate, Ozan gave the perspective of a ship charterer and emerging owner of modern, efficient gas and ammonia carriers. He discussed the phased-in inclusion of shipping in the EU Emissions Trading System and how companies are evaluating the challenge of the emissions compliance market. While the focus remains on the transition to lower carbon fuels, and on efficiencies from design and technology solutions, the panel also discussed the complementary role that credits generated for the voluntary carbon market may play in companies’ sustainability strategies. #CommodityTrading #Shipping #Sustainabilityinshipping #Decarbonization #VoluntaryCarbonMarkets

We need more women on boards of directors. That’s the key message from our Swiss head Demet Ozdemir who spoke at the CTA Association of Geneva’s annual Women in Leadership event, along with representatives of traders, banks and WISTA SWITZERLAND.   With less than one quarter of the world’s corporate boards seats held by women, this is key problem to fix to help make wider progress on gender equality in business, Demet said, complementing comments by the other panelists Maryana Yarmolenko Stober, Mariam Almaszade, Hiba Safieddine Nesr, Nathalie Hogarth and Rabih Bleik. We were honored to respond to an invitation from the International Energy Agency (IEA) to endorse The Clean Cooking Declaration for households across Africa. As one of the world’s largest bulk traders of LPG, with a growing presence in Africa, we recognize the importance of the public-private agenda on this topic and in joining up thinking across different stages of the cooking gas supply chain. At stake is a decline in premature deaths from respiratory diseases, particularly among African women and children who rely on wood fires and traditional stoves.
